“Disappointing”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

My review is very overdue as we stayed over 6 months ago. Our first room appeared to be lovely, until we saw the stained mattress and the bath and sink were cracked and bacteria was growing. We were moved to the private Villa.wonderful concept but tired and dirty. A glass coffee table was broken on the corner and dangerous. The pool was uninviting and not clear. We went to the hotel pool which was so tired. There were no rungs on one of the pool steps and no loungers.the pool was used by lots of outsiders which makes you question security. The hotel safe was unacceptable, everything just put in together, no sealed envelopes etc as is usual.

The owner needs to refurbish this hotel and spend money on it.

We never reviewed before but now we are going back to Ubud we thought we should. What made our stay was the Manager, Rodney and the butler in the villa who sadly have both left this hotel. They were first class and couldn't do enough to help you.

Room Tip: None, until refurbished.

Stayed here 25-27 Sept 2013. The hotel is located a couple of kms from the city.
Service was good by staff.
This hotel definitely needs to be upgraded or refurbished.
The price was US$70 per night via Asia rooms website.

Very dim lights in the rooms; aircon was a bit noisy, bathroom floors need to renovated as they are too old and look unhygienic.
We visited the massage rooms twice and noticed that the lights hanging above the massage bed had massive spider cobwebs. Masseurs were alright, nothing exceptional; could be improved with better oils and ambience.
Housekeeping did not change bed sheets everyday which was unhygienic.
Not sufficient ventilation in the rooms which may suffocate.
Room size was small.
Too many mosquitoes in this area; the staff were kind to provide repellents.

Visited the restaurant for breakfast in the morning - 1st morning omlette was made to perfection, 2nd and 3rd day omlettes were not so well prepared.
3rd day coffee served was cold; asked the waitress to get a hot one which she is immediately got one.
Prices in the restaurant are as expensive as outside restaurants but nothing exceptional. Ambience is average overlooking the garden.

The garden & swimming pool is well look after. The mattresses near the swimming pool had bird poo and dust on it. Shows that the staff don't really care about cleaning it regularly.

If you plan to walk from city to this hotel at night, please be careful along the road as there are many man-holes on the footpath and blind spots along the road with no street lighting.

Overall, an average hotel for the budget traveler.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden are small and dim lighted...not much ventilation.

We stayed 7 nights in the garden room. Would have preferred verandah room with fridge but on booking it there was none on offer. But there are and they said we could have upgraded when we got here.
But staff very accommodating as we got our own kettle and mugs then would get milk from restaurant area.
Breakfast cooked fresh with lots of choice and not much more if you want something different. Great banana bread and fruit plate or fresh juice as starters.
20 min walk into town. Narrow road and no path. Shuttle each hour.

We stayed there for three nights and we enjoyed our stay. We had two standard rooms which were next to each other and in the same structure. So we had to patio and the balcony all to ourselves. Staff was friendly and happy to arrange drivers and day trips. Grounds were clean and well kept. Our rooms did not include breakfast but a la cart was cheap. The room itself was old and there was no tv. The bathroom and esp. the shower area was not well lit. For the price we paid I couldn't be too picky about it. The location of the hotel is not in downtown Ubud but you can walk or take a cab. The back door of the hotel leads you to local residences and small rice fields.

We booked a garden room and it was terrible.... as soon as we entered the room we were demoralised and upset. Spoke to the night manager who claimed to be fully booked, when he tried to sell tours to me etc he asked what my plans were for the following day, "looking for a better hotel" wasn't what he was expecting. The rooms were dark and dingy, bathroom facilities included a sanitary towel bag and shower cap, neither of which I needed and shower soap which was half empty, now I know hotels often refill these bottles but leaving them half empty does remind you the last guest has only just left....
There was no TV !!! No Mini bar and no fridge, the swimming pool was open to the public on payment of a fee and general upkeep was lacklustre. This may be ok for sandal wearing , hippie potters but I expect $100 hotels to have glass in all windows and a TV.

After another moan the following morning the overworked night manager showed us another room which was more suitable this was next to the restaurant, but had some of the modern appliences which make a stay more comfortable...

Breakfast was very good, but even when booking as a family of 4 you only have 2 breakfasts included!!! something I found very cheap! we spent most of our time out of the hotel, but the staff did try their hardest, it really is just the hotel itself needs a good shake up.....

15/ 20 mins walk to the centre of Ubud....

Room Tip: Book a large room, check they have tv, fridge etc even if you don't think its important it becom...

We upgraded to a larger room when we arrived as we wanted a bit more space and a tv. If you want a tv be careful when booking as some rooms don't have them.
We ended up with an upstairs room that had it's own balcony and a view of a lovely pool.
Four poster bed with mosquito net was great and the bathroom was a good size although the lighting was dim.
The best thing about this place was the service, in particular, the front desk staff, especially Mandy who was very helpful. We arranged a driver through reception and it worked out perfectly, we were very happy with the service.
It's about a 20 minute walk into Ubud, but there is a semi regular shuttle bus.
The restaurant wasn't great (no cocktaills!), although the nasi goreng was good.
The pools were huge, 3 different pools, one was big enough to swim proper laps in.
There was a bit of noise with barking dogs and crowing roosters (who didn't seem to understand they are only meant to crow at daybreak!).
It was nice to have a place a bit out of the bustling Ubud, I'd definitely stay here again.
