Sweet staff, unbeatable location, a gorgeous pool in the jungle, peaceful, daily breakfast served on your patio with lovely view, low rates, ah heaven .... but the room though spacious is dark and needs a major cleaning, particularly the bathroom. As a solo traveler, i shrugged, only inside to sleep and use the bathroom. You can use the pool here for a dollar a day. Maybe a better idea

Loved the location of this simple but charming place in Ubud. Very private as rooms are spaced out in a garden overlooking a river gorge - we just heard the sound of the river flowing each night. Nice pool and garden. Bathrooms are basic but good hot water and shower pressure. Breakfast is different each day and delivered to your balcony. Staff leave you to your own devices but are friendly if you need anything.

Just a short walk from the city center. Rp. 150,000-170,000 per night. Pay the premium for the rooms with nicer views, not for the bathtub -- the bathroom is grungy enough that you won't want to get in it anyway. Beautiful 4-poster bed with luxurious mosquito net, private balcony overlooking pool and forest. The staff bring you tea and fruit and jaffles on your balcony in the morning. The sound of the river is constant -- lovely, but made me have to pee at night. Nice pool. Good location, across the street from an excellent, eco-conscious restaurant/hotel (Rada).

Kajeng Bungalows, Jalan Kajeng, Ubud, Bali April 2009

[----]
air con 250 000
fan 160 000
10% discount after two days

Kajeng Bungalows is located on Jalan Kajeng, Ubud. It is a small hotel with two air conditioned rooms (250 000 r per night) and about a dozen fan rooms (160 000r per night). There is a 10% discount for stays of more than two days. Each room has a balcony with seating and table. The rooms have double or single beds with a mosquito net canopy.

The hotel gardens and rooms are interconnected with steep stairs with no guard rails. The gardens are simple but nice. The bottom of the hotel has a pool and fish pond.

The entrance of the hotel runs through the family compound.

The view from the hotel is of the jungle which lines the river gorge at the far rear of the hotel.

Breakfast is tea/coffee, fruit and either toast, pancake, omelet or jaffle. Only one of the latter items is served on a set day. There is no choice.

Toilet paper and towels are provided but you may need to request them.
[----]

Worse Points: noise from the pool was very loud throughout the night depending on age of hotel guests.

Best Points: nice pool; easy place to meet people.

Kajeng Bungalows is a cheap and rustic oasis in the north of Ubud. The gentle gurgling of fountains and a small stream adjacent to the Bungalows makes this a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring. Upon entering the Bungalows there are steep steps leading to a enticing bright azure pool and verdant gardens.

The included breakfast is simple yet satisfying and usually consists of a plate of fruit, a plate of something savoury (changes daily) and tea or coffee (no milk). There are no other meals available on site but there are plenty of budget restaurants of Jl Kajeng.

The staff are not particularly attentive but if you want to hide away and get some R&R during your break in Ubud then their absense is welcome.

I will definitely return to Kajeng Bungalows.
