“A Unique Experience”
Reviewed July 5, 2010

WE stayed at the Lodge for 2 nights and had a room overlooking the park which is an experience not to be missed. If you can afford the park rooms go for it as to wake up in the morning and see the elephants outside is just magical. You can stand for hours on your balcony watching the daily rituale of feeding, cleaning and elephant bathing.

Being collected each evening and riding to the restaurant on the back of an elephant is just so good. One of the big draws with the park is the three baby elephants born last year. They are just so cute even at the size they are. Very cheeky and playful and to be able to feed and pat them is a rare experience.

Taro is about 30 minutes drive from Ubud, but once at the hotel you can get out and about with Bali Adventure tours.

I went to this beautiful park with my husband, mother, sister & friend.1st: the accommodation is 5 star, beautiful with lots of little touches you expect at a 5 star resort but don’t always get, well you get it there and then some. 2nd: the Staff are amazing so helpful and knowledgeable, most live in the local village, they will go that extra mile for you i.e. it was my sisters B-day, I asked for a b-day cake a dinner to celebrate, I said that I will pay for it they said no problem, on the night not only did they make us a yummy fresh b-day cake they told me that is was on the house, I also wanted to go for a swim with the elephants which they organised for me with not a lot of time to prepare.3rd: The Mahuls (the elephant riders) they are so interesting & gentle to speak with, many of them being partnered with each elephant for 10-20 years, they joke that they are there other wife. 4th: the grounds are amazing, beautiful an experience in them self. 5th: Most important are the beautiful majestic Elephants, what a truly wonderful experience to be able to be so close and interact so personal with such an extraordinary animal we were truly honoured to be able to experience the Elephant Park Safari.
My only feedback to the park is that the Food in the restaurant is very expensive too expensive.
I highly recommend this experience for all animal lovers, make sure that you stay overnight we stayed 2 nights it was perfect also pay the extra to get a park view, yes it might be a bit expensive for some, but it will be worth every cent that you pay for everyone.
To the staff, thank you for your beautiful hospitality.
To Nigel, you are one in a million, shame more entrepreneurs aren’t not like you, good luck for you and your family human and elephant alike

We were guests at this delightful Resort from 3/6/2010 to 6/6/2010. It was a "life changing experience". We were so impressed with the attention to detail, the care given to the elephants ,the quality of the facilities, the comfort of our room and the wonderful service given by the friendly staff. The thrill to get to know these beautiful creatures, both big and small. Where else can one be collected at 7pm by your own mahout and elephant and transported to "silver service dining", under the stars, in the Palm Grove? Our only regret is that we didnt stay longer. Do your self a favour and visit.

Arriving at Denpasar mid morning, we were met at the airport by the driver who took us straight to the lodge. Despite being early, we were shown to our room straight away and given a suggested itinerary for our one day/one night stay. Our Park View room was large, clean, well equipped and overlooked the main park area where the elephants feed and sleep. It was amazing to hear the elephants trumpeting at night and to wake up to see them just feet away from our balcony.

As guests at the lodge we were allowed to take part in activities not available to day visitors. We bathed the elephants in the morning and walked freely around the park before the safari park opened. We swam with the elephants and could request an elephant ride at any time. Watching the educational dvd available in the room and talking to the staff, it was clear that the work at the park had saved the lives of many of the animals there. The rates are not cheap but it is reassuring to know that proceeds go towards such a worthwhile cause. We will definitely be back!

As part of a two week Bali holiday, in which we stayed at Sanur and Nusa Dua, we also stayed at the Elephant Safari Lodge in Taro - about 12 km from Ubud. This was a great experience, especially if you love elephants. The hotel itself is first-class and the rooms are beautiful, with their elephant themes of course. The resort is set in beautifully landscaped tropical gardens, and is a cool, peaceful oasis away from the madness and humidity of Kuta and surrounds. It was a real novelty being picked up to go to dinner each night on an elephant, and the day and night safaris were enjoyable, meandering through what appeared to be the local farm areas with cows and chickens dotted throughout the jungle. The staff were friendly and helpful and the cuisine was a blend of western and Asian, probably because the owner of the resort is an Australian, Nigel Mason. He rescued these elephants from Sumatra where their dwindling habitat was becoming a threat to their very existence. There were three babies born at the resort which were just delightful, and if you were an elephant you would want to live here. (I think the ideal time to spend at this resort would be 2-3 days as most of the activities are repeated each day.) Well worth a visit!

Absolutely Fantastic !!
What an experience, never encountered before and worth paying that little extra to stay here rather than stay in a normal hotel and come here on a day trip
Arrived by taxi, 2 hours from the airport ( the resort can arrange transfers) and greeted with a welcome drink and cool towel. Provided with an itenary of activities . Shown to our room and as soon as you step foot into the park you can feel this is going to be different - elephants are visible straight away. Great room, very clean and lovely little detailed touches to decor. You can even see the elephants from your room . By staying here you can become involved in activiites, a few of which are not available to the day tripper, and you do not clash with the day crowd either.
Our elephant was due to pick us up at our room at 6.30pm and we received a call to the room 5 minutes before so we could be ready ( I assume this is called a trunk call, sorry could not resist that). The elephant collects you and you walk to the arena, watch the talent show go on a night walk through the forest and then go into dinner. In the morning you can have breakfast watching the elephants have their's as well. then join in the morning bathing, feeding, day walk in the forest and then cool down with the elephant as they walk into the pond carrying you
During the day you can join in with activities as much as you want or just relax around the complex. at the pool towels are provided and shopping in the resort shop are loads of souvenirs and the money goes to the up keep of the park
The only downside, and this is a small one, is the evening meal. It is too up market and al a carte. There is no option for just a simple local meal. It is the 5 star experience or nothing else. It would have been nice to have the choice of a really fancy dinner, or just a simple local menu. We caught the free shuttle to Ubud and ate there instead.
A lovely touch as well on checking out. We were given a present of an authentic elephant painting with a certificate of authentication
Would definitely recommend staying here - you will not get this experience any where else and the staff make it a special experience for you. And of course there are the elephants !!!

This is an amazing experience....believe all the previous reviews! It's a must do! Being collected at your room by a beautiful elephant and her mahout and walked off to an alfresco dinner under the palms - romance in the extreeme. Feeding the babies, scrubbing the mums at their morning bath, laughing at their antics and marvelling at their gentle plodding natures. Wonderful! The room was gorgeous, with turn down service and a sweet snack treat each night. Staff were unbelievably friendly and proud of 'their' Park - an absolute credit to them and management. Just fabulous. Just go!
