Villa Agung Khalia
Ranked #52 of 622 Specialty Lodging in Ubud
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 11, 2013

The villa Agung Khalia seems beautifull from outside and is huge, but it is cheaply decorated and furnished (beds are good though). No wonder why there are no pictures of the bathrooms on the website : not at all in the bali-style you would imagine when you see the villa from outside or the picture on the website, and so disappointing.

The location amongst the rice fields is amazing, but really far from Ubud : 10 to 15 minutes drive, and you have no chance at all of getting anywhere without the transport from the villa.

The breakfast is good, but the dinner was really average and over priced.

We didn't like the staff at all. No privacy, always someone sneeking around for any purpose and asking questions or wanting to sell us something, like an excursion or a dinner at the house or whatever. The driver was not pleasant and never of good advice.

So, it is not that bad but it is really not that good.

Beautiful big spacious villa, serene setting, wonderful kind and friendly staff. What more could we ask for?
We stayed at Agung Khalia in April in a party of 7 which included 3 children and found the villas exceptional, The staff were fantastic, and Agung made a wonderful effort to make us feel at home and even took my two boys out on his motorcycle - what an adventure! They have not stopped talking about this.
The tours offered in-house were terrific and drivers were lovely. The daily trip in to town plus the mobile we were given to ring to be picked up was a real bonus.
Massages they ordered for us to have on the beds outside the villas were superb and so cheap!
Food we ordered in rooms was a god-send particularly with kids and one who has a food allergy - this was all catered for.
We all fell in love with Ubud and the villa with its serene setting and when we left to stay in other locations in Bali we sorely missed Agung, his staff and the fabulous villas. We highly recommend this Villa and location.
PS the staff from the villages who work at the Villa are quite poor so we brought across 2 suitcases (about 70kg) of good quality kids clothes and shoes - they were so grateful and we were so thrilled to hand it over to people who really needed it. Think about doing this if you visit Bali and Agung Khalia.

I stayed at Agung Khalia in April for one week with my extended family. From the booking process with Laura, so efficient any query I had when I first booked the reply came through immediately, which put your mind at rest, just knew every thing was going to be well managed. The pick up from the airport was such a relief as we had young children; the smiling staff, all ready to look after your every whim, even to going into town and ordering a pizza for us one night. The food is very good at the villa and we had dinner in the restaurant three nights. The drivers are happy to drive you into town to a restaurant; you are given a mobile phone when you book in so all you have to do is ring to be picked up from Ubud after your dinner, or your shopping trips. The breakfast is everything you need from the cereal and toast to the hot food is more than enough, and the service reminded me of my mother fussing over me. Agung took us to the rice fields for an early morning walk which was great fun, we all enjoyed that. The villa was much more than a villa it was a huge beautiful home with a large pool, large verandas upstairs, table and chairs down by the pool, we sat and enjoyed an early coffee every morning before breakfast. This is more than just a villa it's more like a five star resort, just perfect, we wish we were all back there now. A big thank you to Agung and all his staff for a wonderful holiday.

Having travelled to Bali on many occasions and staying mainly in the Kuta, Legian area we decided to try Ubud and fortunately found these villas online. Beautifully furnished, very spacious, magnificent pool and so serene in the rice paddies. The staff were so accommodating, nothing too hard to do and the shuttle service to Ubud was a real bonus. Absolutely the best place for some real quality "chill out" time with or without your family. The shared twin Villas allow the option of a big family / group to really enjoy themselves with 6 huge bedrooms, 2 kitchens 4 large family areas two big balconies each as well as the verandas around the pool.

My husband and i came to bali for our wedding anniversary with our 18 month old toddler. We stayed at villa Maia which is a private villa adjacent to the main complex of villa agung khalia. The complex is surrounded by terraced rice fields and we were able to watch the farmers in the fields from early in the morning.

The villa itself was stunning inside and out. It was so spacious and even too large for our small group of 2.5. The building was modern and beautiful and decorated with traditional Balinese furniture and artwork. The bathrooms were delightful little indoor/outdoor retreats and included slick modern fittings and carved stone bathtub. Just beautiful. Bedrooms were huge and included dressing rooms with massive wardrobes. They really thought of everything here! Right down to the mineral water cooler in the kitchen and air conditioning in the bedrooms - so convenient and a real luxury!

We also loved having our own private pool which we used day and night. The shuttle service into town was fantastic. So convenient and because there weren't too many guests in the main villas, we were able to utilise the service any time we wanted several times a day. The spacious and air conditioned car was really comfortable and the drivers all so friendly and happy to tell us about the surrounding villages and daily life in ubud.

What can I say about the service? It was above and beyond what you would expect even from Balinese! So friendly, so kind and really made us feel at home. They were very attentive and efficient, and loved talking to us and chatting to our babbling 18 month old boy.

Breakfast in the restaurant was plentiful and delicious and we also had lunch in our villa every day while our son slept. The hotel manager/owner ugung was so friendly and always smiling, and he and his staff were always happy to help us with organising transfers and drivers.

Overall, we had such a fantastic experience and would definitely come back here next time we are in bali. Highly recommend!

Very friendly helpful warm caring service. We were a group of eleven girlfriends. We were so comfortably accommodated and cared for. This would also suit a large group or extended family holiday. Peaceful and tranquil beside the padi fields. We took an early morning walk through the padi fields and forest with Guru. It was muddy and fun and it was not only the ducks quacking. Highly recommend Villa Agung Khalia. We go home today and will miss this place and our daily massages very much. Thank you

My husband and I stayed four nights at Villa Agung Khalia. What a beautiful and relaxing place to be! We stayed at the Lotus Suite, which was just perfect for us, with it's private pool, chaise lounges and sun umbrella. The suite is very spacious and has a romantic canopy bed and also a small bed, filled with cushions, that we used for lounging. The suite has a nice bathroom with a shower and separate tub. There is also a small area with a sink, coffee/tea making facilities, fridge and a few cooking/eating utensils.

The staff is very attentive and will cater to all your needs. We used their services for pick up at the airport, which was one less thing we did not have to worry about.
You receive a cell phone, upon arrival and it was extremely handy for calling them to pick you up in town or when you needed something in your suite/villa.

The breakfast was very good and made to order from a menu ( my favorite was the breakfast burrito, which I indulged in twice). They aso have a small table with cereals and bread, where you can serve yourself to these items. The restaurant has magnificent views of Mount Agung and the extensive rice fields. You can see everyday life in the fields while enjoying your breakfast. We ordered dinner in our suite on our first evening, as we were very tired from cancelled flights, etc. and the food was good and reasonably priced. We also ate at their restaurant on "Silent Day". Make sure you order the chicken satay.

Villa Agung in located in the outskirts of Ubud, about a 15 minute drive. They have a complimentary shuttle service into Ubud center from morning until 9:50 at night. Very convenient!
The spa massages were very relaxing and very reasonably priced, as well.

We definitely had a wondergful time at Villa Agung Khalia and recommend it very highly.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Lotus Suite, as you just step outside your room and you find yoursef in a very nice t...
