“homely and well located”
Reviewed August 17, 2011

Our family of 4 stayed in Paratiwi in August 2011.
Overall we had a fantastic stay here and would recommend to any family. Gayatri is quiet, peaceful and well located.
We got a good price of $300 per night and felt this was fair, I feel the list price of $450 would be a little high unless a little more luxury could be injected such as newer towels, free sundowners in the evening etc
The Villa is very well appointed and the large, spacious bedrooms with super king canopy beds take your breath away. There are fantastic double baths for lazy evenings and there is more than enough space for a family of 4-6 to relax comfortably.
Some fittings are dating a little and we felt there was a wiring issue in the main house. Both myself and my father in law received quite bad electric shocks from a bedside lamp which was not replaced as requested, but returned with a new fuse. There was also a condiderable leak from the AC in the upper bedroom ceiling during our stay - the place could do with a quick R&M once over.
The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful. Gigih the Ops Manager is knowledgable about the area and speaks very good English. other staff are less confident but will always get you in front of someone who can help.
The breakfasts were a little disappointing with a choice of fruit, a pancake, toast or a cooked breakfast. We would have preferred a more continental style of cereals, yoghurts and breads but what was served was tasty and filling, if not a little samey.
The pool area is small but very pleasant, if not a little chilly in the mornings!
The villa is well located off the main road in Sayan and although difficult to find the first few times, most taxi drivers will know the area and it is safe to wander around the village. The position above the Ayung gorge affords fantastic views of the fields on the opposite banks if you have the top bedroom. Unfortunately, this is the onlt room with a view and the pool feels a little hemmed in, behind trhe back wall of another villa.

We stayed for 4 days and it was a relaxing experience to live in a local neighbourhood instead of a large resort for a change. The villa was very private, well appointed and the staff are extremely helpful and hospitable. The breakfasts cooked in your own kitchen are a nice touch. The rooms are very comfortable, the bathrooms are clean and well appointed. The pool is clean and a good temperature for swimming as there aren't too many overhanging trees. If you can, get the villa with the view of the river valley. There is only one with a view and it was a shame it wasn't available for our stay.

My sisters in law and I stayed at the Gayatri Villa Pratiwi for 4 nights. It was the first trip to Bali for my sisters in law and my first time in a Balinese B&B villa. I was extremely pleased that the warm hospitality extended to us during our stay in Gayatri Villa left a lasting impression on my sisters in law who are now looking forward to more trips to Bali. The villa was spacious, tastefully fitted out and quiet thus allowing for a wholly spiritual and relaxing experience. On the second evening, the water pump broke down unfortunately but the staff was very helpful and did their best to make sure we were not too badly inconvenienced. The manager Gigih and his wonderful team of staff accommodated our various requests readily and without a fuss. We got a bit fussy with the repetitive breakfast and requested for a change from the standard menu and we were very touched that Gigih and his staff went through so much trouble and exceeded our expectations. Overall wonderful service in a lovely villa

We stayed in Villa Amarta for 2 nights while on our honeymoon in November 2010. I'd read the amazing reviews on this site, so was expecting something pretty special, and while it was a lovely villa, we were left disappointed by several aspects of our stay.

The three villas are very close together, and it would be possible to stand on the villa balcony above Amarta and be able to see into the pool. This didn't pose us any problems though.

We were also put off by the badly tarnished mirror in the bathroom, the badly peeling paint in the bathroom/shower areas caused partly by roof leaks, and the fact that our toilet didn't flush properly, but instead constantly ran. Our attempt to get this fixed by management failed.

We were also disappointed in the breakfast which was very poor. Cold toast, eggs cooked to death, odd watery bitter fruit drink instead of fresh juice. Also, the villa only had local pay tv, which meant the normal international channels for news/sport etc weren't available. Only a small thing, but I missed the only program I'd wanted to watch that week, despite all the other cheap hotels we've stayed in in Bali having full pay tv.

Lastly, the complete lack of signage on the main road, or even at the entrance for that matter, meant we spent 30mins driving back and forth trying to find it. The manager cheerfully agreed that they do not have any signage when we quizzed him on arrival.

You could tell the staff were trying hard, but perhaps they lack experience of what's involved in top of the line maintenance and service. They were also a little stand-offish with us, which surprised us given others's comments.

On the plus side, the view from the balcony and pool is lovely, the bedroom was lovely, as was the living area.

We just thought that when you're paying top dollar for a really special occassion, you shouldn't have such a collection of minor problems, and management should do a better job at maintaining their villas. Nice place, but not recommended for the price.

This is the second time that I have stayed at Gayatri Villas in Sayan, Bali. Each time we were greeted at the airport by the Manager Gigih and driven through the steamy night about an hour through artisan villages and ricefields.
My first experience with Gayatri was in March 2009. I was blown away....this trip proved to be even better. I got so carried away that I've created a second website for Gayatri and it's surrounds.....http://web.me.com/garycollier1/Gayatri_Villas/Welcome.html
We arrived late on Saturday 23/10. Gigih was at the airport waiting for us. We stopped to get takeaway Padang food somewhere north of Sayan and proceeded through magical Bali to the area known as Ubud. sayan isn't reallu Ubud and Gayatri is in the small village of Baung, perched on the ridge of the beautiful Ayung River Valley.
This year we stayed in Villa Sawitri, the largest of the three. It is a truly opulent villa stretched over 2 floors with outdoor living areas and indoor bedrooms and bathrooms and a huge pool guarded over by Ganesha. I said to my 10 year old son one day..."Finn, if this was in France it would be a hotel !" there are only 3 of us but 2 large families could stay here easily.
The staff are amazing and unique in some ways. Two of the main staff are actually next door neighbours and most have grown up in the village. They make you feel like royalty without pandering too much. Baung is a real Balinese village and life goes on as it has for hundreds of years.
Gigih organized us a car which arrived on Sunday morning. No hassling, no bartering it's just there waiting. Speaking of Gigih....he's a very good Manager and host. Gigih lives in Denpaser, he has 3 daughters and hails from Java. He is sooooo laid back BUT if there is anything that you need all you need to do is ask.
As an experience for me and my family Gayatri is like our home in Bali. It's just as easy to goe to the main road and buy dinner from a Warung as it is to drive a few kilometres to some of the best restaurants on the planet.
This part of Bali is truly beautiful, the people are genuinely friendly and as an overall experience gayatri is up there with the best available on the planet. Check out my pictures on the website I created ....... http://web.me.com/garycollier1/Gayatri_Villas/Welcome.html. It will continue to evolve.
I 100% recommend Gayatri.

While filming our travel show in Bali, Gayatri Villa offered us the perfect location to unwind and rest after a busy day in the Bali sun. The views were spectacular and the villa was quiet located close enough to town to be convenient but far enough to be a little "out of the way" of everyone else.

The staff and ownership were extremely hospitable as no need went unfulfilled or unthought of.

Highly recommended.

At almost 3 kilometes of Ubud, the Gayatri Villa offers a luxuruous residence for 2 or more people wanting to take advantage of a upper class taste, sound details, privacity, pool, special breakfast, quietness, free chauffeur to drive you to the city. And, as hoped in the spirit of Bali, the kindness of the manager and of all the personal.
Staying there several days is just a "gift" for every sensible and intelligent tourist wanting to get the best of this marvelous island and its population.
