Ok, let's face it Sanur is not a forgotten paradise, yet it's still a relaxing place to pass a day or two. For a great value place to stay I would definitely recommend the Swastika. As other reviewers have noted the rooms are a little tired and some a bit dark, but they are large. The breakfast restaurant is rather canteen like, but does a good cooked breakfast. But what recommends this pace are the grounds, which are fantastically planted, tropical and have two designed pools (the smaller one was always deserted, and the larger one is hardly busy). We would definitely recommend this place for the cost, relatively budget price but with a quality feel.

Was at Swastika Bungalows with a girl friend for 3 nights after our 4-night stay at Ubud.
We have booked a larger family room through AsiaRoom but was allowed to down grade to a 2 person standard room without problem. Stuff was friendly and lots of smiles. The room we had was 76, which is actually very spacious and apparently meant for 4 persons (1 double bed and 2 single beds) but is a bit dark. However, the sheets and pillow cases have yellow stains and cigarette holes. The towels were a bit old but fresh and clean. The shower room was basic and cheap-made just like the room, but not a big problem for us. The doors were locked with a simple pad-lock and does not close completely. We did not try the pool but it seems to be alright. Overall the place has past its prime obviously needing some upgrading, and to replace some of its cheap-made plastic tubes lamp holders to something else that resemble less of a toilet pluming tubes.
Breakfast was included in our 40 USD per night stay, the pastries were ok, but the free flow of fresh fruits was a big plus. You can also order eggs cooked in any style you prefer. Stuff are always friendly.
The stay was ok until one night we returned to the hotel and realized that the chocolate and biscuits we had in the room were eaten by a rat (bit marks and holes etc), I even found a piece of rat feces on my bed cover. We were disgusted since we have both traveled a lot in SE Asia even as back packers and never had rat problem, especially not at hotel of this price range. We went to the reception to ask for a room change the next morning. The lady at the reception issued us room 74, which was smaller but bright and clean. The hotel sent a lady to check the room and she ask us why we did not put our food into the fridge, but when I told her that the fridge was not working, she replied that we 'should have told the reception to turn it on since it is included'. I am not sure about Bali, but in other countries which I have visited in SE Asia, the customers were not expected to know the regulations of the hotel at the back of their hand. She almost make us feel like it is our fault that our food got eaten by the rat. Anyway, one more rat-free night and off we go to the Denpasar airport. Ask the reception to call the well reputation Blue Bird Taxi (70000 Rupiah), or take the hotel transport for 100,000 Rupiah.
Over all I will not recommend this hotel to my friends or family and don't think it is value for money as I have stayed at much better place in Thailand and Malaysia for the same price.
The hotel was located in the middle of the tourist street, so there are really nothing very interesting to see. In fact there is nothing much to see in Sanur in compared to the rest of Bali. The only few museums existing were not worth the visit. A 10 minutes walk across the street and along the German consulate brings you to the beach. Make sure you head towards the Jalan Hang Tuah direction as there is the best stretch of the beach, the opposite direction brings you to the not so pleasant part. As you draw near to Jalan Han Tuah, there are stalls selling items of bargainable prices since they also target the locals. At the junction of Jalan Hang Tuah and the beach, you will find this small Warang at the corner selling well to the local, do drop in for the special lunch deal (28000 Rupiah) of fried fish, fish soup and rice, finishing off with a refreshing local orange juice.

The rooms were large and comfortable, the air conditioning worked as did the TV. The TV could have used an English speaking station, but I was not there to watch TV so it didn't matter. Morning breakfast was good, the pools clean as were the grounds. The staff very friendly, but again they could use a few English lessons. Bali can't keep its lights on so it would have been nice to have some sort of lighting between the street and the lobby during the blackouts.Having a mausse of the grounds is a good idea and I made use of their services. Did I mention that the price is good? Well I thought so. I didn't think glass ashtrays were a good idea in rooms with tile floors because when one drops there is glass eveywhere{as I foound out}. Another nice touch are the seating areas outside the rooms. Next time I good back I will stay there again--if there is room. Oh yeah the internet in the rooms sucked.

After staying at another hotel in Sanur for 13 years we decided to stay at the Swatika this year. The rooms are a bit tired but they are big, clean and air-coned. Clean white pressed sheets everyday, fridge and TV (local channels only) which is a pity. Bathrooms are in need of some TLC but are functional. You are only showering and sleeping in the rooms what more do you want. 2 swimming pools. The furnishings by the pool are in great need of an upgraded. Clean pool towels everyday. The verandah's are very private so you can sit out there and just vege out with family and friend's or just sit and read a good book. Locality is the winner in this Hotel, short walk to the beach and restaurants galour. Staff, nothing was a to much for them to do or get just ask. We found nothing wrong with the breakfast and atre there nearly everyday of the 3 weeks we were there. The surrounding gardens are well maintained.

We stayed here overnight on our way out of the country. We picked the hotel based on other ratings on this site. We were surprised the room was so large. We were in room 51 in the back corner, a very large room which was very quiet. The pool was beautiful (there are 2) and the gardens were beautiful. The WiFi Internet is FREE, unlike many of the more expensive Bali hotels. The breakfast was adequate with a pretty view overlooking the pool. The price was very good and although the beach is 5 minutes away it is not a problem. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Local phone calls were a little expensive. We would stay here again. We appreciated the slower pace as compared to Kuta, yet more local color than Nusa Dua (and much cheaper).

Swastika Bungalows has been around for some time but is still a very nice, quiet hotel that would suit famiiles and is not over priced. The rooms are clean and large sized, 2 rooms I stayed in had AC, all have a nice areas at the front to sit and solve the worlds problems. Pool & surrounding area is clean and well maintained. Service was good & the staff friendly. The breakfast was included and whilst not 5 star was mire than adequate: eggs, toast, savoury breads, fruit, Indonesian noodles/rice, coffee/tea/juices, & pancakes.
