“SOME KIND OF PARADISE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

With 'Paradise' I quote the remarks of a guest from the Netherlands during an excited Skype conversation with some of his friends back home. And friends of mine from southern Germany agreed, at least when talking about the well maintained garden setting and the hotels value for money. I fully agree with the comments of 'Fleetwood80', you get what you need and pay for, and on top a super location.
Of course there are still some things missing compared to the Hyatts and Sheratons, but the standard of the BUMAS has improved since I wrote my first report about it two or three years ago. The towels became better, WLAN/Wifi was working very well, and if you have a valid point, the owner and/or reception staff act immediately. I'll definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: If you aren't happy with the room they have given you, just talk to reception (Mrs Wayan). She d...

Me and my sister stayed at Bumas for two weeks (end May - begin June), and we loved every second of it. The staff are, without exception, so friendly. Front desk has provided us with a fantastic private tour guide (I Made Suarda), and informed after my health after I'd been ill. The rooms are great, lots of space, cleaned daily by friendly and reliable staff. I didn't expect much of the breakfast after reading the stories on this website but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Swimming pool was very clean and quiet. Food in the evening was not the best but this is not a problem as Sanur's night market is nearby, as well as various restaurants. We loved the big, green and well kept gardens, listened to Bali's night sounds every night (we had a big Tokeh in the garden!). Very near the beach. Very comfortable beds. We simply loved everything!

Just returned from a 2 week stay here and was very suprised by the hotel given some of the negative comments. The hotel is basic but has everything you need, I wasn't paying for a 4 or 5 star accommodation but was very suprised by how good the hotel was given it's low star rating. Rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels everyday, the staff were lovely so friendly and always made u feel welcome we even forgot a hair dryer so they provided us with one for our stay foc ! Breakfast was simple but what you need to start your day and eggs were cooked on request , omlette , fried or even boiled ! Free safe at the hotel too and towel cards for the pool . Hotel has two lovely pools one was out of action for a week but made little difference . Even though you have to cross a road to get to the beach it was surprising how peaceful the hotel was. Great location for Sanur with lots of restaurants left or right of the hotel and just a 5 min walk to the beach . I would stay here again , ok it's not luxury but if you want that then you have to pay for it .

I booked with hayes and Jarvis in Feb and stayed in this hotel. It was awful. Dirty bedroom, dirty shower with plastic bath, the bed was filthy, smelling of damp and dirty washing, the sheets with brown stains on them. There was not water in the room on my arrival. The breakfast cutlery and plates were all chipped and the wooden sun beds infested with termites and broken. I had to check into another hotel which was also 3 star and with no comparison. It was beautifully clean, so if other hotels with a 3 star rating can do it the Bumas should be able to. It maybe cheap but cheap should not mean dirty.

Room Tip: Please do not stay in this hotel.

We stayed in the Bumas hotel as part of the Thomson Tailormade holiday package for 14 days which included the superior room, the ground of the hotel are very lush and there are two large pools stand a jacuzzi which we didn't think was working however I think there may of been a switch to turn it on. There is wifi in the reception area for a dollar a day (12200 rupiah) which also stretches to the pool area. The room is large and has a lovely balcony overlooking the pool area however the bathroom is in need of modernisation and renovation, the shower is weak and the water temperature drastically changes. The hotel doesn't provide drinking water like a lot of other hotels in the area. The TV is very small and very old, many channels don't work and its not really worth trying and the air con is soo loud! However these could always be fixed with relative ease if the hotel invested some money into renovating these rooms. The breakfast is simple and there is no variation, you can request eggs but that is as good as it gets. However the staff are very friendly and the location of the hotel is perfect and is within very short walking distance of the beach and a number of restaurants. Easy transport to anywhere else on the island and we also took a trip to Gili Islands which left from Sanur beach. It is worth a slightly less luxurious hotel to get the best location.

Well being a Brit in bali for the first time , I choose sanur beach the place is cheap and laid back . The hotel is not the hilton but has it charms and in a good location to see the island the staff are friendly and helpful and your breakfast is juice and rice but ask staff and you can get bacon and eggs , the rooms are basic but cool and clean and the pools and gardens save this place , sanur is not a party place but more for old couples and backpacker to chill out the beach is great , I came in the rainy season but don't let that put you off as it rains then the sun comes out or rains at night but have to say being caught in a mansoon is quite special in its self .
Food wise the warungs are great , little bird is great the perfect feel of bali and run by young Balinese and the food is great and cheap , also babs bar is a laid back place and you can catch up on the sport and free wifi and the food is good too .overall I had a fab time and people are friendly , also try get to man car a new place and the old cars and bike is great to see and a good meeting point for tourist and Balinese to meet and chat .
Jan 2014 I was getting 20000 rupiah to the pound here so change your money here .
Rafting a must .
Drivers pay no more then 500000 for the day to take you round the island , my driver Pete was great and the guy even took me to his house , meet the family and got to know more about the Balinese and how they live but be warned they take you anywhere but also every arts and craft shop along the way so tell them you don't want this .also you pay the parking when visiting some places and donations are made at the temples so you been warned.
Katu is a mad house but great for the clubs and best for nightlife , but if I come back seminyak is best for a bit of each and is up and coming bali has a lot to offer and a must on the bucket list .
Food depends what you want but 20000 to 60000 in warungs or 1 pound to 3 pound sterling , but some places curry houses and fish places are more .
Taxi sanur to Katu 100000 and get it on the meter ( blue taxi ) .
Well overall I come here with 500 pound for 10 days . I going home with 100 dollars and 700000 in my wallet and this included my food , beer, taxis , rafting and a driver for the day and bought some souvenirs so your pound does go far , overall I becoming back even if the flight a drag but worth it and u can get a massage for 3 pound and last's an hour to destress you

Stayed for two weeks at Bumas arrived on 7th of Jan to wot seems like a jungle oasis ,it was about 8:30 in the evening we walk down these little paths to the sound of the evening insects and the smell of the jasmine
you wouldnt believe that the main busy street of sanur was a couple hundred metres away . The room was lovely , nicely tiled , big king size bed which Was very comfortable , yes the bathroom was tired the mastic around the bath was very discoloured and cracked
The tub itself was stained too this is to do with the water, the shower fittings were well worn too but things were clean , if you've ever spent a holiday in the Greek islands self catering you will have come across the odd cracked tile
and showers that don't hang on the wall properly minor faults when all else considered. The pools were a beautiful place to relax by and we really aren't pool people . The place was so tranquil , spa like it was a pleasure to walk back into every day , the beds are made up every day and changed regularly the towels were changed every day and yes they were well warn some with stains but clean again the water problem , so if you want 5 star luxery PAY if you want peace and tranquility and a good base to explore from try this . Oh breakfast was Indonesian style , pancake rolls usually banana , rice or noodles , melon ,toast with butter , local coffee and tea , eggs were done to order any style no extra charge , so not to everyones
taste , I'm a Yorkshire man who loves a good cup of tea in the morning so note to self and anyone with similar tastes , take a kettle lol I will next time and yes there will be many next times am sure . I found it reminded me of Greece 20 odd years ago dirt cheap to eat out we struggled to spend £20 on a meal with deserts and drinks for two and my wife had steak a few times . Hope this helps someone , enjoy !
