As a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teenage boys - we were looking for a reasonably priced hotel on the beach at Sanur. The Sanur Beach Hotel provided us with all the facilities we were looking for - two excellent large pools, good breakfasts, clean rooms with problem free air-con, tv and showers. The only thing we couldn't get was a DVD rental but we were able to hire one at the dvd shop near the bonsai cafe.

The hotel caters mainly for families and provides excellent front desk service. An additional benefit is the Garuda office located in the hotel main complex. We were able to check in and get our seats the day before departure.

There is a free shuttle bus to Kuta of a morning and lots of organized activities for kids and adults that are free of charge or very inexpensive.
The hotel has a range of restaurants but the surrounding area provides a much better range of places to eat ranging from the cheap and cheerful to the ritzy and expensive.

Our favourite was Bobby's with is right next door to the hotel with indoor and outdoor on the sand seating.
Although the hotel is at the southern end of the beach there are lots of shops and transport for those too lazy to use the excellent paved walk way which runs the length of the beach

I read all the reviews and had some concerns and on the main they were all on the mark eg. a bit tired looking but the facilites, staff and surroundings were really good & it is all about value for money which I think it was definitely.
After the long line up and hassle to get through customs in an unairconditioned airport we were a bit frazzled by the time we got to the hotel. The entrance and foyer weren't overly flash but still nice, (would have been beautiful and very flash when built in the 70's). But everything was very clean and the service was great and breakfast was very good and so nice out near the water.
We had reservations when we arrived but by the time we left 8 days later we loved the place, especially the bar on the beach with $5 cocktails and a 3 piece band playing every night at 6pm.
We did travel around to Kuta, Legian etc and were so glad we stayed in Sanur, so much quieter and older set, Seminyak/Kuta was full of the younger groups, mainly dutch and german in Sanur. My partner didnt want to go to Bali at all but he did agree by the end of the trip he was so glad he went as we both loved the place and the Balinese people, they are so lovely.
Another great thing to do is go on the early bike ride with a guide from the hotel for $10ea and he took us all through the streets, to the local market (we were the only westerners there) then into a local families balinese house and also a local school, a highlight of the trip without a doubt!

After reading mixed reviews about this hotel, we decided to book a week's stay anyway. Despite a nice location and beautiful grounds, the hotel itself is old and tired. It certainly doesn't justify the relatively high rates being charged and the suggestion on the hotel's website that it is five star! The "superior" room we were shown was dark, dingy and smelly. We had requested a double room but were given a twin. Eventually after complaining, we were offered a double room but like the other room and the rest of the hotel, it was tired and in need of re-decoration. If you like small, dark rooms, in large, ageing corporate hotels and baking on sunbeds with hoards of people, then this is the hotel for you. It certainly wasn't the hotel for us and we left having paid for one night, to spend the rest of the week at another hotel.

Hello

We stayed at Sanur Beach Hotel 9th October - 21st October and had the most fab time - The Hotel was great, the staff, the food, the pool. eveyrhting was just perfect,The weather well shouldn't complain it was to Hot - The Beach has the best breeze.
The sea food resturant was really good - we were all inclusive and the only thing we would have had to pay for was Lobster.
Madie who works at Beach Bar was great - he took us round island and was great tour guy - nothing ws to much bother night or day. The Buffett ,Steak house,The Itialin were first class.
We have read other re-views and as usual you will always get people who moan - we never had to fight for sun beds, umberalla
yes some parts of the Hotel were tied but clean and they are doing rooms etc., up -
We def will go back to this Hotel, and also what was good was you could go out at night and sit at Different bars, reaturants.
If you fancy BALI - do not listen to bad reports.

October 2008. Elaine from U.K.
Just returned from Bali yesterday.
Disappointing because this hotel is certainly not 5 star. It needs an uplift. Good location but tired.
Not enough umbrellas and temperatures very high,.Had to get down at 6am every day for three weeks to ensure an umbrella.
The buffet food was nearly always cold and unappetising so had to eat mostly from the menu. Noisy French and German guests seem to be treated more favourably. Rooms had only one drawer which is no good for a three week stay. Some of the bar staff were very rude and gave poor service. I would not choose this hotel for my third trip to Bali.

I stayed at the Sanur Beach Hotel in August with my husband and two teenage daughters. I can see from other reviews that the hotel could be accused of looking dated but we loved it. We had a sea view room which was very comfortable and clean. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and immaculately clean. The pools were again well maintained (the main pool is huge). The beach was great as there was always a breeze - in fact the breeze was sometimes so strong, it made reading a book difficult! The breakfasts were fantastic and I agree with the review from a previous holidaymaker who said that the omelette lady was a wonder and should be given a medal! We ate in the Italian restaurant which was pretty good and we were serenaded by the singing trio who were good fun! I would definitely recommend the Mezzanine restaurant at the Puri Santrian next door. The food was very good, menu varied and it was not overly expensive. People we spoke to had eaten at Donalds and again said it was good. We drove just over an hour to the Elephant Safari Park which was very expensive but worth it - my girls loved it. Apart from that we relaxed and it was the best place for that. I would definitely recommend it... in fact I wish I was still there!

Arriving at Hotel Sanur Beach we were very exiting by our stay. Eventually our expectations were some what fulfilled. Here are the headlines:

- Rooms were good but not amazing. Had a garden view hotel but there were sea view.
- Beds were rock hard. Asked for a new madress and the hotel staff placed some softere beds on top of the original. That solved the problem.
- Staff are very friendly and helpfull. Perfect.
- Breakfast is very, very good and we really enjoyed that.
- Ohter food (room service and restaurants) is horrible. Went out for dining every night. Can recommend Puri Santriani (next door hotel), Donalds, Mezzanine, The Village.
- The pool at the hotel is superb. Looks almost as a 50 meter.
- The beach is very good, but not fabulous. There is beach beds for free. There is a lot of sea weed so swimming in the sea is not recommendable.
- If you need transport just take a taxi by meter. Can go 15 minutes for appr. 30.000 INR (3 USD). A taxi can be rentet for a full day for 300.000 INR.
