“Best in sanur”
Reviewed January 30, 2008

Just returned from our third stay in sanur .We love Besakih and wanted to take ours kids aged 17 and 15.They had a fantasic time in the beautiful pool overlooking the beach,Most of the rooms have been renovated and look great we had connecting rooms (223-224)The gardens were kept so neat and tidy, the staff were very friendly. The breakfast at the hotel was good ,eggs anyway you like, fruit, fruit juices, toast, pastries.Lunch by the pool was so relaxing.Very close to some great resturants we loved Bonsai right on the beach and Mades on the street.Shopping was fun some ladies drove you crazy wanting you to go to their shop but after a couple of days they left you alone
Everything was so cheap food drinks and clothes dvd were good as well
Its the only place in sanur we would stay, and we plan to return soon I will be recommending it to all my friends and family

Was very disappointed - first trip to Bali. Had tried to book into a couple of other hotel/resorts but they seem to have been booked. First trip to Bali and first holiday with just my husband and I after 23 years of bringing children up. We arrived at 9pm, taken to our room, two single beds!! So i said that the booking must have been wrong we asked for a double room - we were then put in the most grotty room i have ever seen in my life - bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Previously to leaving for Bali i had a horrible feeling after the travel Agent had booked 4 nights and I went back in and changed it to one night (having to pay a little for the nights we were not staying) - best thing we ever did (I must have known). Took a walk the next morning and booked an absolutely beautiful hotel for the same price. A happy ending!

weve never been to bali this was our 1st time, the rooms and staff at the hotel were great. The resturant meals were delicious and the staff
there were more than friendly, the hotel grounds and veiw were beyond beautiful. we carnt wait to return to besakih next year, considering we are a young cpl spending our 5th wedding anniversary there, some of the other guests have visited besakih for more than 20yrs which means this hotel is a very exceptional hotel making its guests feel more like family than guests. We couldnt reccomend this hotel enough ...

Everything went smoothly during our stay at the Besakih. We were greated warmly and check-in was a breeze. They let us check in early and gave us an option of 2 different rooms. We were later dissatisfied with the room we were given and they immediately placed us in a different room, without making a fuss. Each room has either a balcony or a terrace area, where they provide you with a clothes dryer to hang your wet stuff on. That was such a helpful detail that most hotels lack to provide! The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and clean. The staff members are friendly and helpful. They go out of their ways to make you comfortable. The rooms were basic but clean and everything was in good condition. The beach and pool areas were beautiful. There were ample lounge chairs so there's no stress about getting one. They have 2 pools, which were both clean and maintained daily. The larger pool also offers a view of the beach. The resort was peaceful and quiet, which the way we prefer to spend our vacations.
I think the best part of Besakih was the free breakfast. They served us a huge plate of fresh fruits, various types of pastries, omelletes with sausage, ham, or bacon, or you can opt for Asian-type breakfast items, such as noodles and congee. The breakfast is usually so filling that we end up having a small or late lunch. The hotel was located conveniently. The street that the hotel is located on offers plenty of restaurants, internet places, phone places, and other shops. There's also a supermarket (Hardy's) about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. If you don't want to walk, you can take a taxi or bargain with the many drivers who hang out on the streets.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended another night at the Besakih. On our last day, we had a late flight. The front desk offered to keep an eye on our luggages while we have lunch and swim at the pool.
I look forward to coming back to the Besakih and will recommend anyone to stay here.

This is really terrible if you have been in the rest of Bali. At the reception they are very nice, but the rooms are old, the staff in the restaurant are very unfriendly. If you like this you haven’t seen Bali, you haven’t really met de local people and you haven’t felt the real hospitality of the Bali people.

The beach and the pool are nice but that’s about it. We booked this hotel looking at tripadvisor and we saw only good reviews and booked immediately and we were so disappointed.

We saw Lombok and Bali and we wanted a few days to relax at the beach before we went toYokjakarta. We have seen a lot of places and booked guesthouses and luxury hotels al over Bali and Lombok. But this hotel got nothing special ……. no hart.

If you only take this hotel for one night, no problem. If you want to stay her for at least 8 days, as the most people there did. Be prepared to do a lot of day trips and ignore the staff in the restaurant, but that is hard to do, ignoring the staff.

Advise find something else, it’s your holiday

After reading all the good reviews below on the Besakih hotel, me and my boyfriend (30/32 yrs, from Holland) decided to book for 6 nights ($45, lucky to get a bungalow).

Already the first day we knew we were not going to survive 6 nights at this Besakih Hotel. The main reason was that we were the only young people among big groups of 70+ years old ladies. Our driver later confirmed that this were the regular visitors of this hotel.

The quality of the food and staff in the restaurant was really poor. The real season did not even start yet, but they seemed to be annoyed by every quest.

Besides this you have to be aware that Sanur as a city attracts tourists who do not leave their hotel for 10 days, make pictures of the traditional Balinese dancing girls performing in their restaurant and then believe they have seen Bali.

So looking at the Island in front of Sanur, we dramatically changed our plans the second day and took the first Peramatour boat to Nusa Lembongan, and had a great stay at a secluded 'dream beach' for RP150.000 only.

To give you some positives on Besakih:
> nice and friendly staff at reception, and cleaning force
> basic, out dated, but o.k. rooms with a nice shower
> good beaches

If I would advice another hotel in Sanur it would probalby be 'the Taverne'. But this is only based on the experience of some other dutch we met.

Cheers, and enjoy Bali
