This place is situated in a side street, which was about a six minute hot walk to the beach. I found it very clean with polite and friendly staff. The room was airy and bright with a nice little veranda. The pool was lovely. There wasn't a fridge in the room but there was access to a communal kitchen. There was no breakfast either but I used to buy watermelons, papaya, jackfruit and salat from the old lady's stall a few doors away and have that instead. The constant barking of the dog next door didn't really bother me as mine does the same at home when she sees the postman! Overall a quiet place to stay in a quiet seaside resort.

We spent nine nights at Kolonial House and hated to leave. With only six rooms and a large living area, communal kitchen and swimming pool, the guesthouse felt very homey. There are two standard rooms, one superior room and three apartments. We were in the superior room for the first seven nights and then had to move to a standard room, as the superior room had previously been booked for our final two nights. Although both rooms offered the same amenities, the superior room was considerably larger and brighter, as was its bathroom. In addition, the superior room provided a settee and an exceptionally comfortable bed and pillows. For the minimal difference in price, the superior room was definitely the better choice, although the standard room was perfectly acceptable. The guesthouse was a ten minute walk to the beach and about five minutes to a very good breakfast spot, The Art Cafe. Just a little farther up the road was another good dining option, the Gardenia. The staff at Kolonial House were friendly and Putu, the manager, was helpful and professional. Overall we were very happy with our stay at Kolonial House and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Given a choice between the standard rooms or the superior room, go with the superior room. It's...

Kolonial House (from AU$40 per night) is a piece of charming elegance tucked up a side-street in Sanur. It is a two minute walk to the beach and Power of Now Oasis (owend by Kolonial crew). Good places for breakfast within 200 metres include Art Cafe and Gardenia - popular with travellers but good quality and value too. Breakfast is not included in room rate at Kolonial (unusual for Bali) which is why I mention the local brekky spots.
Kolonial is at the southern end of Sanur but an easy bike ride into the hub. You can hire bikes next door to Gardenia.
Sanur is the hooker capital of Bali, so I found out, and there is a "girlie" bar across the road from Kolonial. However, even the late-night doof-doof music music the staff warned me about wasn't heard - and I was a front room - nor did the "trade" ever encroach. Wouldn't have known it was there had they not mentioned it.
I stayed initially in room 3 then room 2. Both comfortable, spacious, clean, tasteful and with veranda. French double-doors add to the "colonial" ambience. Ceiling fans, aircon, foxtel, fridge, hot water and good water pressure. No baths - a bit of an issue for me as I loooooove my baths...but the massive shower heads offered the heavenly tropical downpour experience. Was fine.
Clean, tasteful, relaxing and cosy - you feel you are part of a small family at Kolonial. Easy to meet the other guests - there are only six rooms - and the pool is the central hub.
For the price, location and quality, Kolonial is definitely worth a visit. Always apprehensive to share jewels such as this but it's good for their business (as long as I can still get a reservation next time in Sanur!!!).
Ideal for solo travellers and couples.

Room Tip: Some of the larger rooms have their own outdoor kitchenettes which overlook the pool. Very cool for...

A beautiful guesthouse with a tranquil garden, nice big spaces and a beautiful pool. Very good value for money! Excellent location just a few minutes walk from the beach in the slightly more quiet end of Sanur but still very close to restaurants and shops. The design combines traditional Balinese style featuring antiques, artwork and nice wooden furniture with clean, modern comfort. Elegant yet cozy and welcoming, this place will make you feel both at home and like you are a special guest. The bathrooms are exceptionally beautiful with big spaces and partially open air Balinese style that allows you to bathe both in sun and water at the same time. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the guesthouse has some eco-friendly measures and rules. They have a co-operation with a beautiful yoga studio on the beach (called Power Of Now Oasis) , so Kolonial House guests get a free yoga class and discounted rates from further classes. This place is ideal for a longer stay, with well equipped kitchens that allow you to make yourself at home with some home cooking if you like.

A picturesque hideaway tucked away close to the main area and beach of Sanur. I like the way they've furnished the place to give it a distinctive 'colonial' feel - from the old rusting cannon at the front door to the wooden furniture and square-pane windows in the room. Tanja and Putu were really friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean. The internet dropped out a couple of times, but I've noticed this at a few places around here and they got it back running reasonably quickly when it did.
