“Our stay was OK at Villa Bintang Baru”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

- We had an appointment for a pickup at the airport by the Villa. On arrival at the airport there was no one to pick us up. Called with the Villa, employee told us they forgot to arrange it. Can happen, so we took a taxi. On arrival the owners wife told us that the driver was there and we did not look carefully at the airport (Bunch of bullocks, I have been walking back and forth at the airport for 30 minutes!). I guess she wanted to cover up her mistake by telling us this. The owners wife did not gave us a warm welcome, she did not even get up from the couch to introduce herself or gave a tour through the room. I think this was due to the party I was traveling with Indonesian relatives, so I think we weren't that interesting for her. I heard that the owner went away to Australia during our stay, hopefully he does a better job than his wife.
- One TV, in the room above the Honeymoon Suite, was not working properly, signal cable was snapped.
- Shower rod in the Honeymoon suite was corroded, almost broke.
- Honeymoon suite had a small boiler, runs out of warm water fast.
- Due to the open bathroom more chance of mosquito's
- Sanur's main area is not really on walking distance
- Curtains do not block out sunlight
- In room safe was not bolted down

+ The staff (two girls) are friendly, honest and helpful.
+ Lots of TV channels
+ They have their own rental Mopeds, great for exploring!
+ Cleanliness
+ Comfortable beds

After 9 nights at Villa Bintang Baru we have only good things to say. The owners and staff are wonderful hosts, very obliging.
Only 3 very nice spacious rooms so its not crowded, open air bathrooms, lovely comfortable beds and a gorgeous pool that was a welcome relief after being in town or out sightseeing all day.
10 minute drive to town, but a small convenience store and laundry directly across the road. Mimi and Bang Bang the adorable small dogs are worthy of a mention also, they're full of personality and provide spontaneous entertainment.
Our thanks to Peter, Nanning and Ketut for going the extra mile eg driving us to town when the taxi failed to arrive, and Ketut for cooking the best Mie Goreng when we couldn't be bothered going out for dinner.
The best thing I can say about Villa Bintang Baru is it feels like home, being a villa with only 3 rooms.

We arranged a pickup at the airport, since we were arriving late in the evening and were met by Pattra, a driver who later that week also took us on a trip around Bali. At the villa we were awaited by the owner and one of the girls from the staff. All were very friendly and they explained all the stuff in the room before leaving us to it, check-in could wait until the next morning since we were kind of toured.

The room was lovely (we booked the honeymoonsuite which is on the lower floor at the end of the pool) and the bed was great. For breakfast you can choose from a list every day for the following morning, including an Indonesian breakfast.

Lying at the pool was a nice way to take a break from the beach, since the sun can get really hot in the middle of the day and the poolarea is nice and shaded.

We stayed at the villa for 4 nights and were totally satisfied by everything, not a bad thing to say about it. In fact, everything you'd like is arranged for you by the staff: taking a daytour, getting a taxi, getting take-out, booking a massage in town, etc.

Location wise it's like a 20 minute walk to the main road, but taking a taxi is always an option as well (very cheap, like 25000/30000 rupiah = less than 2 euros).

We would definitely recommend staying at the villa if you like to enjoy the beauty of Bali and Sanur, but don't need to be in the middle of the touristy centre all the time.

arrived on the 5th September and stayed for 4 nights. the rooms are good and spacious the bathrooms great. the service you can expect from Peter and his team is very friendly and informative but not over bearing. the pool is lovely and the communal area are clean and homely. the location isnt all that central but taxi are cheap as long as you agree the fee up front. Sanur is quieter than Katu but is a good base for exploring the south area of Bali. Tip - Bring ear plugs, everywhere is Bali has chickens and dogs and can be noisey.

Villa Bintang Baru is great. We would describe it more as a boutique hotel as it has three units with a shared pool, common lounge and kitchen. It is in a residential area (Kampong) where a lot of Ex-pats live and is very safe and secure.

We booked directly with the owners which we recommend. That was easy and painless. We wanted to stay for 2 weeks (as part of a 4 week stay in Bali) so price was a consideration for us, and this property offered excellent value.

We knew that the property was across the Bypass Road rather than in the heart of Sanur but that didn't worry us. AUD2.50 taxis rides are easy or you can hire a motor scooter, E-bike or push bike through the owners. We stuck to taxis. Also, the owners are thinking of offering a shuttle service to McDonalds a few times a day so that would be excellent also.

Our room was a great size (ground floor Honeymoon Suite), the bathroom was large with an "open air" shower (still private), and everything was clean. As a previous reviewer said, towels and bed-linen were changed daily which was very nice, and the unit cleaned daily.

A nice plus was that there is a shop next door and one across the road and also a laundry across the road which was good and exceedingly cheap (e.g. 10 items for 20000Rp - $2). We used it regularly. There is also a Medical Centre across the road, just in case. Lastly, for Beatles fans, the Cavern Club is walking distance (10 minutes) down Jl. Sekuta and this has a fantastic collection of memorabilia.

Being dog lovers we just loved BamBang (after SBY) and Mimi, the owner's dogs. As we were there for 2 weeks, the dogs adopted us, and us them. Bambang was the lifeguard when you splashed around in the pool and Mimi liked to clean up the leaves. Even if you are not dog lovers, they don't annoy in any way, nor are they frightening, being little.

Now for the best part. The owners (Peter and Naning) and the staff (Wayan and Ketut) were fantastic. They looked after us so well that we felt like family, not just guests. We spent a lot of time talking to Peter who has led a VERY interesting life. One night we went to dinner at a local restaurant with Peter and Naning and it was a delicious meal and so cheap - 18,000Rp for a pepper steak. Peter and Naning also took us to the Australian Consulate in Denpasar to vote in the Australian elections. Also, on our wedding anniversary, we came back to find our room decorated with flowers and petals saying "Happy Wedding Anniversary". We were very touched. Thanks to all.

When we return to Sanur, we will not hesitate to stay at Villa Bintang Baru and recommend it to anyone.

Judy and Bryce

PS. Naning makes the best Nasi Goreng in Bali.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite on ground floor is best - quiet, good pool access

First impression-wow! Beautiful little villa tucked away in the back streets of Sanur. Greeted warmly by the live-in Manager, Naning, who speaks good English and is a great cook. The whole place was neat as a pin. Our room was towards the front of the villa. The room was large and the outdoor ensuite was a good size. The bed linen is good quality and the pillows really comfy. The only issue we had was noise from traffic, dogs and a roster. This wasn't an issue during the day but did affect our sleep (we are both light sleepers). The other rooms may be quieter. All in all, we were very impressed with the property and the professional customer service.

This place is truly amazing. Villa Bintang Baru is located in a neighborhood of Sanur, where the Balinese live. The villa is surrounded by some nice indonesian eateries, where you can have great food for a penny.. More western eateries and the beach are only a 5 min (€2) cab ride away.

On arrival we were a bit early for checkin, but that was not a problem at all. Peter and the girls were very helpfull from the moment we arrived and our room was beautiful and spotless clean. Breakfast is freshly cooked in the morning at the time you would like to have it and full English breakfast is available. The pool is very nice for a refreshing dive, and there is even a lifeguard that looks after you (our new favourite dog: Bangbang).

Peter is a friendly host,
