We have been to Bali 3 times now and this has to be one of the most beautiful settings for a hotel. The grounds are immaculate and the pleasant staff are always busy beavering about performing their tasks. Even the petals from the frangipani trees and other flora are swept up early in the morning. I am sure they sift the sand too!
The hotel has a two restuarants and breakfast is wide and varied. Because the restaurants in Sanur are so reasonably priced it was great to find a different venue to eat out most evenings.
The beach is clean and tidy as was expected after seeing the grounds. The day beds were spasmodically spaced along the beach, so you were not on top of the next. Hawkers were about but not a problem.
You must try a trip on an outrigger., great fun. We actually went on one down to Turtle Island and fed the turtles with 'special seaweed'.

The volcano, the Ceremony, trecks into Ubud. The Balinese lace shop. There are so many excellent memories here. We will definitely go back one day.

Just great. Great rooms, great facilities, nice staff (exept reception), nice beach. The restaurant was soso but the Winner Schnitze was nice.

The sea is not rough in Sanur and you can access the sea by the beach with small kids.

Stayed for 5 nights including New Years Eve 2009 in deluxe room lower floor by beach.
Room was good size and cleaned perfectly everyday. The aircon worked well and was very quiet,,I would not spend the money on a delux room. If I would go back (doubt it) I would stay at the standard garden view rooms. They are identical except not refursbished such as the deluxe rooms.
Ok so the negatives*****
Breakfast- hideous, plastic wrapped cheese, ham and salami (local) I would not feed my pets, juices are the cordial variety..
The egg station was good. FYO if you like bacon they keep it under the counter ask for it??

Service- the worst ever, 1 hour to get a drink and abother 1/2hr to get appetizer (which was not what we ordered),,, really really bad..
An english couple got 10% discount for complaining. Another couple just walked out after waiting 45 minutes,,
This is a 2 * hotel and it is for the budget conscious traveller. I would not reccomed this, oonly as last resort. BTW, Sanur is for the older traveller. If you want more upmarket with great shops, stylish people and great restaurants SEMINYAK is the place...

We have just returned from 3 weeks in bali , two of which were spent in the griya santrian. We have stayed previously at the puri santrian but were advised by a fellow traveller to try the Griya which we did. we are so glad, we did. We booked in prior to christmas the 19th of december and we were given an upgrade to a suite which gave us sea and pool views with a four poster bed and large bathroom. We had the best two weeks. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Christmas eve the hotel put on a christmas dinner which was six courses international cuisine , superb food, and music, the new years eve was also excellent.
We couldnt fault anything at all. reasonable prices, great location, ample sun beds, (yes we could get one anytime anyday), great spa.
The hotel is not big, but it had everything !. Thank you for making our Christmas and New Year one to remember.

Continuing our search for the 'best' Sanur hotel for a family with young children, we stayed at the Griya Santrian for 4 nights. As we needed interconnecting rooms, our choice of room type was limited to the older-style 'garden view' rooms at the rear of the complex. However we were very pleasantly surprised to find the rooms refurbished inside with funky wicker furniture and (in the adults' room) a very large, modern and clean bathroom. The styling was very similar to the Griya's sister hotel, the slighly higher-rated Puri Santrian in south Sanur. The only concern for us was that there was a very deep pool right outside our doors - but with appropriate vigliance around young children this should not be an issue. We key-locked the kids' external door at night so they could only exit their room into the adults' room.

Like the Puri Santrian, the hotel grounds are immaculate and a little unusual. Including the Club Rooms area, there are 3 swimming pools. Buffet breakfasts at the hotel are your typical Bali fare and are very good. We ordered room service in the evenings a couple of times and the offerings were limited but generally OK.

The best thing about the Griya is the location. Smack-bang in the middle of the Sanur stretch and on the beach. Excellent restuarants, shops and the large Hardy's supermarket all within a short distance. 'The Village' (Italian) restaurant at the entrance to the Griya is excellent (although a quick taxi ride to the Puri Santrian's 'Mezzanine' restaurant is also very highly recommended!).

Staff were universally polite and very helpful. Hotel prices were reasonable.

i would not hesitate to recommend the Griya to both families and couples. Our next stay in Sanur will be next door at the 3-star Besikah Hotel (as man is an insatiable creature and our quest may never be completed!) but we'd be more than happy to return to the Griya.

I had checked the hotel on Trip advisor and it seemed good value for money, other travellers finding it mostly reasonable. Imagine our surprise when it was much better than we expected. We occupied a room in the garden wing and when we opened the door ,it looked more like a suite. Huge bed, bathroom, large wardrobe and a big sitting area with cane suite and TV,fridge & tea/coffee making facilities. So, the bathroom looked a little tired, the towels were clean but grey and in some spots I was itching to get a scrubbing brush and bleach. But... it was cleaned every day, floors washed every day/ linen changed every day. Staff was terrific, friendly and helpful. The New year Dinner had every food imaginable, entertainment and good company. Three different types of pool. (Lap pool is beautiful but steps are dangerously high). The gardens were superb and well kept, swept every day.The food was good.
Now where else would you find a 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 meter stone carving as wall decoration??
Negatives, if any, as mentioned and would like room safe , these were in deluxe and up rooms.
Excellent restaurants nearby and all food reasonably priced, even in the Griya itself.
Yes , we loved it and as we are going again in March with a very large family group, would have been happy to reside there again but our agent has already got a good deal at an upmarket hotel. Wnder if it will compare. We loved the Griya, we loved Sanur and have even convinced our daughter and family that it's the place to be.

Just returned from a lovely 2 weeks at Christmas. All the staff where genuinely friendly and helpful. The location is ideal if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.
We spent very little time in the room "garden view" but was more then happy with the quality. The hotel has 3 pools with sunbeds and there is also a beach frontage.
I looked at the Puri Santrian and was pleased I had chosen the Griya.
All the hotel food we had was excellent and from a varied menu including special themed occasions. Away from the hotel you can eat and drink at many beach side / roadside restaurants all within a short stroll and you will spend more on the drinks then you will on the food.
Only downside was the cost of the wine. Imported averaged £30.00, local £10.00 (not great). If you choose to stay here you won't be disappointed.

Griya Santrian welcomes you to experience an enduring tale of warm traditional Balinese hospitality on the laid back sunrise coast of Sanur Beach. This beautiful beachfront resort, the sister property of Puri Santrian, is unmistakably among the most renowned landmarks in Sanur, gracing a perfectly central location on the quiet shore and with an unending classical design that continues to charm visitors, be it new and repeat visitors alike. Sanur is well known as a spot for luxurious seaside accommodation with its white sand beach bordering a reef-sheltered lagoon, making it one of the safest on the island, and thus perfect for families. As a luxuriant oasis in Sanur, Griya Santrian's enduring warm Balinese touches are imbued throughout its range of impeccable services and facilities. Leafy tropical Balinese gardens comprising flowering undergrowth and large shady trees (some older than the resort itself) dominate its manicured landscaping. And guests enjoy ease of access to the local shopping and dining hubs of Sanur, all within walking distance from the resort. At the heart of the Balinese owned and operated resort are its wonderful accommodation features - well designed and appointed guestrooms are spread throughout its two main wings. The two story Garden Wing comprises a total of 37 rooms with private balconies or terraces overlooking the resort's aforementioned lush gardens. Meanwhile, the ever popular Beach Wing features a total of 20 spacious rooms that let guests wake up to the wonderful garden view and the dramatic Sanur sunrises. Balconies or terraces also overlook the resort's main pool. Cable TV, mini-bar, hot and cold water, IDD telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room safe and air conditioning all come as standard in-room amenities, to name a few. Alternatively, a choice of 59 Deluxe Rooms welcome guests to garden and pool views with some closer to the beach and feature en suite marble bathrooms and separate showers. For those who prefer a more lavish accommodation will find the Santrian Suite, a capacious suite with a 68 sqm bedroom with an elegantly draped four-poster bed as its center piece, together with a dressing room and private balcony. Designed with a refined modern Balinese approach, the suite serves as the ultimate romantic getaway for couples and honeymooners, while also great for families. For dining pleasures, Griya Santrian presents its main restaurants and outlets, which includes The Wantilan Restaurant, offering sumptuous breakfasts and all-day dining complemented by sweeping ocean views over the Sanur coastline. Meanwhile, Griya Beach Corner serves a wide choice of Italian, Japanese and Asian specialty dishes in a refreshing open-air setting. For a bit of romance, lovebirds can optionally spice things up with a bespoke candlelit dinner. The Spa at Griya Santrian is a thoughtfully designed and purpose built facility that offers a wide range of health and beauty treatments using natural fruit and flower extracts that will totally indulge you from top to toe. It's the go-to place within the resort grounds where guests can discover a great way to re-energize, refresh and rejuvenate during their stay. Griya Santrian opened in 1972 as a luxury boutique resort with a pride and commitment towards the preservation of Balinese arts and culture. While keeping to its roots and now in its fourth decade running, Griya Santrian continues to improve its facilities and services. The most recent addition includes a new wing room which was unveiled only last year, and repeat guests will also be surprised to see a new spa adjacent the resort's lobby, set to be completed this year. Several key facelifts are also well underway in 2016. ... more   less
