“A perfect haven in Bali.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2011

This is a gem of a place. Lovely staff giving superb service, always trying to make you feel very comfortable. We stayed there on three different nights in three different rooms, all beautifully luxurious. The food was of a very high quality and delicious. We loved being there and would always choose to stay here when visiting Bali in the future.

After spending two nights at Waka Gangga (which we loved), we decided to end our holiday at Waka Maya, in Sanur. We were mainly disappointed by the bad location. It's not on the beach, and the shuttle service (which takes you to the "beach club") drops you off at a third-rate cafe in the less than salubrious end of the beach, which has four lounge chairs offering a poor view at a minimally swimmable beach. The other downside is the lack of free transfers - to the airport, to the other hotels, even if they're very close or affiliated. Not a great situation given where the hotel isn't.

On the plus side, the hotel is very quiet and offers great privacy and great service. But for this price, and given our experience in Yea Gangga, we expected much more.

My boyfriend and I booked this place last minute online and were not disappointed. We arrived in Indonesia as two very exhausted school teachers and this was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Having looked at previous photos from other reviews, and having now visited this resort, it has clearly hd and injection of money and has been and is continuing to be improved and refurbished (They have just finished their new spa building).

We chose a lanai with private pool and we really pleased with our room, it was clean and beautifully decorated, with attention to detail with things like a torch, mosquito coils and matches, dressing gowns, fresh mineral water delivered everyday etc etc.

There is no TV or tea/coffee making machines but this didn't bother us one bit, it was nice to escape the TV for a couple of weeks and get away from it all! Breakfast was great and plentiful - fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, tea/coffee, eggs cooked to your choice, pastries and toast - filled us up every day, enough to go without lunch!

The bed was huge and comfortable with a beautiful mosquito net draped all around it. Air con kept the room nice and cool day and night. The bathroom was huge with a massive sunken bath (enough for two! :-) ) The gardens that surround the bungalows and villas are lush and beautiful and make you feel like you are in the middle of a jungle. Our plunge pool and the main pool were cool and refreshing too.

Staff were always lovely and smiling and made us feel really welcome, the shuttle bus was called for us whenever we needed it and when it wasnt available, reception just paid for a taxi. Its about a 10minute walk down to the beach if you dont use the bus.

The beach is nice but there is litter is areas, however, its a good place to get cheap food and a great cheap massage!

Overall, we felt like this was the perfect sanctury to get away from it all and to completely switch off. We've returned home refreshed and revitalised!

This property is in need of repair.it is definately not a 4 star hotel. From the moment we arrived things went wrong. Very hard to find this hotel, booking was wrong, room was so dirty and mouldy we asked them to clean it 2 times before we could move in. Nothing works, can not use phone in room, front door to room does not lock, wasp nest in bathroom, light in bathroom not working. We left after one night eventhough we had paid for 2 nights. Staff didnt seem to care about anything so i advise you find somewhere else to stay

Recently had two night at the Waka Maya group in Sanur. It was'nt good from the beginning it wasnt easy to find the resort, een in daylight let alone night and I have been coming to bali for a very long time with a balinese husband. Check in was ok and then we were shown to our room. We had chose a villa with private pool. It did have a lovely plunge pool but unfortunately it is not Private, unlike other villas when you have a private villa there is a gate and for someone to enter they have to be buzzed in, there is no gate, people can enter at anytime (which they do do) people walking by can see straight in - Privacy factor is NIL. The room was ok the floor tiles were disgustingly old, the bed was like laying on concrete, no coffee or tea making facilities, and we had requested a tv which was supplied a nice large flat screen but it is placed next to the bed where your head is so you have no chance of watching the tv in bed, there is also no antenna just a manual antenna which picks up nothing. They hotel has a restaurant - the most appaling selection of food, if you want to go out you have to get a taxi or the free shuttle bus, we never saw the shuttle us in two days - the hotel rang for their own taxi service also appalling , no air con loud music playing in the taxi maniac drivers. This hotel is very old and in need of some maintenance - the only true factor was it is quiet. Lastly the photos shown on their web site must have been taken at least 30 years ago

My partner and I stayed 4 nights in a lovely room with plunge pool. It was very private, just what we were looking for however the breakfast was very disappointing. The selection was small, presentation and taste average as compared to other places we stayed. Staff were friendly and unobtrusive. Our plunge pool area was also poorly lit at night so sitting outside to read or play a board game was challenging.

Quite expencive place to stay in Bali. Compared to different hotels in Bali it was probably worst. Location is far from swimming beach and restaurants, scaring neibourhood. Inside look is ok but as kitchen was also worst in Bali and Spa too expencive then we do not recommend.
