Owner description: This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

I stumbled on this place because there was the coolest little guest house in the back, had no sign but locals pointed me to it. Seems surfers know about it. The museum is in front. Not huge or expansive, but it is interesting and worth a look if you are in the area. Ask the attendants questions about local culture and history. And check out the guest house in back!!

Step back in time through gorgeously ornate timber work to find absolutely beautiful pieces of art displayed in every room. But be quick, because they cannot last forever in this unforgiving climate. I don't know what was more fascinating, the art or the house and outbuildings themselves. Disappointed not to be able to pick up any reproductions in the 'sales gallery' and also warn travellers not to go there if you are thinking of using the toilets. I think they were last cleaned when the artist was alive....

We arrived at the museum at 3pm having read in our guidebook that it was open until 3.30pm, only to find that it was locked up. Even our hotel didn't seem to be aware of the opening hours

An artists love of Bali and his muse are quietly presented in the home and now museum. Extremely beautiful collection of works, that takes you back to the untouched era of Bali. What a wonderful legacy for Bali, the preservation of the works and buildings do need attention as this legacy may not survive. Go early , an hour or two is all you will need to spend here, it is well worth the visit.

Their beachfront family compound turned into a museum, with a fine collection of LeMayeur's work and several beautiful photographs of the artist and Ni Polok.
