Saturday 01, September, 2012... late that evening went to Double Dutch with my partner... most other places had already closed by 9pm, so we didnt have much choice but to go to the only open restaurant in walking distance from our villa.
the live band was nice to have, with the musicians taking turns with singing various tunes i had never heard before.
as a chef of 20 years, the Dutch names for some items caught my attention.
we asked the waiter for a translation, which was done with typical salesmanship that made the items on the mixed platter seem to be the most exotic foods i had heard of.. hmmm.. exotic food with Dutch names... this will be interesting...
but NOOOoooo.. i was most disappointed to see a relatively small plate of a selection of deep fried "party appetizers" that i can buy from any supermarket in the frozen food section. the satay skewers were quite ordinary and dry, and the juice was watered down... when i ask for orange juice i expect orange juice NOT a glass of water with a hint of orange.
as i said, im a chef of 20 years.. yes i can be picky, but im not unreasonable... i know good food, and i know food that a restaurateur should be ashamed to serve to a customer. there is no such thing as bad staff, only bad managers... whoever manages this place should leave the industry to the professionals... sell up and invest in vending machines. your not fit to own/run a food outlet!
