Santai Hotel

I have stayed several times at the Hotel Santai in the heart of Sanur. For USD 35.00 a night you will get a clean room, air-condition, a TV with DVD player and large bed. They have started to renovate the hotel so you might even end up with a brand-new room. This is not a 5000 bed hotel, here you can experience personal interaction with the owner and if there is a problem it will be fixed. The hotel is mainly frequented by divers as Bali Crystal Divers is located inside the hotel. If you want a very quiet day, laying on your sunlounge and not interact with any other human being than you may not choose Hotel Santai. But no worries there are sun lounges, a relatively big pool and yes, quite a few interesting people to have a chat with. Ask the owner about the local sights, she has been living here for ages and has an answer to any question you might come across on your travels.

This hotel is the best. The rooms are great and are kept very clean. The whole place is kept very clean. The staff are the most friendly persons i've ever met and made my stay even better, they'll help you with anything you need. The atmosphere at Santai is lovely and fun. There are always someone hanging out in the bar or at the poolfront that you can join, so its a good place wether you're travelling alone or with friends or family. Price is VERY resonable!
Santai Hotel is no less than perfect if you want to go diving or take a course. They have highly educated instructors and all dives centers around safety and getting good experiences.

It's difficult to give this hotel a rating - if you are a diver and staying here to dive with Crystal Divers it is excellent but if you are not a diver and here for a peaceful holiday it's probably not the best choice. The roooms are very clean and spacious with lovely bathrooms but they are around the pool where the dive training is conducted and there is not much peace and quiet through the day. The location is great - right in the middle of Jalan Tamblingan, so there are lots of restaurants and shops close at hand. I had a nice stay but it's difficult to get away from things unless you stay inside your room. The rooms have fridges and mine also had aTV and DVD player. Definately recommended for divers but not for non-divers. The service comes from the dive center so there was little help on the room side of things but for diving issues it was very good.

This small hotel is quite nice: some rooms have been recently refurbished, practical location, good price. But if you're not a diver you'll definitely find something more suitable in Sanur. It's a diving school, pretty successful judging by the crowds in this late August, so that means that the pool is used almost all the time by group of divers who are learning the art. Not really fit for relaxing around!
This said, the diving school looked pretty serious, the equipment brand new, and this adding to the good price could make it a good choice for divers. Although in my experience, if you're a beginner you'd better take your course in Amed, which has awesome and easy dive spots nearby. Nearby Nusa Lembongan has fantastic dive sites but the conditions are tricky and can be downright dangerous if you're not experienced.

Room Tip: Do NOT take the room Idols, in the corner. It is next door from a big water pomp that is VERY noisy.

Hotel Santai is the accommodation for Crystal Divers, and so I would expect a fair proportion of the guests are either diving with them or on a course. It's also worth noting that they occasionally use their pool for diving courses during the day.

This aside, or perhaps because of this, the hotel has a very social atmosphere with people gathering in the bar area out front each evening for a well deserved drink.

The food is also excellent, the breakfasts are massive with plenty of choice. Each evening they serve only one choice (different each night), but they were consistently of a very high standard.

The rooms themselves were simple but comfortable and we found it reasonably priced for the area ($30 / night for the fan room inc breakfast).

Overall we enjoyed our stay, with the staff and the food making it pleasantly memorable.

This hotel is....fine. The rooms are clean - but they are very basic and uninspired. The pool is a little dingy. Overall, it is ok but you can find many places nearby that are the same price and much much nicer.

I spent a couple of nights at Santai when the hotel where I'd been staying (and returned to) was fully booked. I had a very long day and came for check in very late - at around midnight. The reception staff was most accommodating and helpful even at such a late hour: I was checked in and escorted to my room ('Idols') in no time.
The hotel grounds, the building itself and the pool looked wonderful at night. The room impressed me as rather small but pleasantly and conveniently laid-out. It had a wide-screen TV with a DVD player, aircon, minibar, a bed with a mosquito net, sink, and a bathroom (hot shower). There were some diving magazines to leaf through while nibbling on snacks from the complimentary snack basket. Toiletries were also provided. Overall, the room appeared well looked after and clean, if a little tired. The aircon worked fine and the bed, although a little creaky, was not uncomfortable at all, so I slept very well.

Santai is located on the main street of Sanur, right next to the landmark of Hardy's (supermarket/shopping mall). Everything you might need is close at hand: shopping, dining, massage, diving, tours... The beach is, perhaps, a ten-minute walk away.

What I liked best about the hotel was the location, the Indonesian staff and the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I will also disagree with one of the previous reviewers and say that it is value for money, compared to a few other places right across the street. On the downside, if you're not a diver, you might feel a little 'left out' or out of place at this Chrystal Divers hotel. All in all, I would still definitely recommend it.
