“EASY! my tip - A great pool is a big consideration when holidaying with kids!”
Reviewed February 10, 2010

We needed a place that was an easy option because we were arriving at 10pm with kids. We booked here because it looked comfortable and that's all we needed. We then spent the next 3 weeks in glorious boutique villas in exotic corners of the island. But if coming to Bali again with kids I'd reduce the fancy villa time and stay here much longer!

The rooms was nice...not luxury, but really pleasant. Everything was well maintained, the staff were lovely, the breakfast great, the beach nice, location quiet but close to good stuff, great beachfront restaurants nearby.. all good.

OUR EXPERIENCE WITH POOLS IN BALI is what seals the deal.... Our kids swam all day in a few big hotel pools, they swam all day at Waterbom Park and they swam at Safari Park, and all was fine. When they swam in the fancy small boutique pool in Ubud they immediately got fungal/bacterial infections and when they swam in the small private pool shared between the 5 villas they got blisters on their fingers and ear infections. At one villa I asked to see the water tested and the clorine level and PH level were both seriously below the recommended levels. Another friend complained of the same with her complex's plunge pools. It's pretty obvious really...big mass of water stays cool, while small body of water heats up quicker and turns to bacterial soup if not vigorously maintained. So while the idea of a small private pool is lovely, our kids fared far better in the big hotel pools.

Mecure had a great pool by the restaurant that my daughter loved, she had a great play with kids at the family pool, we snooped about visiting other hotel pools nearby that were also great... and I got to relax more because she was entertained more.

Another kid friendly thing - The room also, while gloriously light filled when you opened the shutters, was able to go really dark for siestas and sleep ins. A great bonus for kids' afternoon naps.

we were a little cautious of stayin in bali in the wettest month jan how wrong we were. day an night ranged from steamy to ridiculously steamy. on arrival we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from just about everyone and served with an ice cold fruit drink. walking to our room i was subdued by the lush surroundings of the gardens well maintained. All i look for in a room is good air-con clean beds and a good shower wot i dont do is look for stupid little things like mould in the grout ect ect i dont spend a holiday in a room i sleep in it shower in it so if you want attention to detail stay in nusa the bottom line is the rooms are perfectly adequate and functional. The mercure is situated at the bottom end of the beach so offers alot more peace and tranquility but not to far from watersports sailing & kite surfing talking of which do not go to benoa for any watersport activity imagine the M25 on water it was bananas. also your but a short walk away from beach warungs cafe/bars along a purpous built path that runs the entire length of the beach. The 2 pools are lovely 1 is deep to swim the other perfect for flopping in thou they do get a little warm at the end of the day.The staff are wonderfully friendly and speak remarkably good english and always always give u a smile unlike some of the miserable residents not english i hasten to add. The only gripe were i to give one is drink and food is expensive large bintang 58000 as opposed to 22000 along the beach which is a shame as i'd have loved to have had a large bintang at the resorts breeze bar or the cabanas on the beach. In a nutshell the mercure is a gem of peace tranquility & relaxation wonderful helpful staff good rooms beautiful gardens fantastic pools and beach i'll definately stay again and in jan.

We stayed for a week in January and as we liked it so much, returned for 3 days early February before flying home to Canada. Spacious rooms, 2 great pools, friendly and courteous staff made for a very enjoyable stay. We paid $60 US per night which did not include breakfast. Breakfast at $15 per person was expensive so we ate at the Gardenia restaurant just up the street from the hotel. We had dinnner one evening at the Mecure restaurant. Beautiful setting adjacent to the beach and a great meal. For the money one of the best hotels we stayed at in Bali.

Doesn't look much from the front but this hotel is well laid out. Rooms don't appear to be overlooked and it's peaceful and quiet. This is more of traditional setting too like the Segara Village used to be.

Just got back from a two weeks holiday at the Mercure Sanur Resort and had a wonderful stay. The hotel does not look that much as you approach it, but once inside you are met by the most friendly staff, given a cold towel and a refreshing cold drink. We stayed in a "superior double" which was spacious, had a huge bed, fridge, tv,table and chairs and a wonderful balcony (furnished) overlooking exceptionally well maintained gardens.

The beach was very quiet, spotlessly clean and guests were well looked after by the bar staff. The bar menu was very good and although prices were slightly higher than outside the food was of an excellent standard, do be careful however that they do add 21% government tax and a very small service charge.

We ate in the restaurant the first night and last nights only. The food is expensive compared to outside, our bill for the first night was four times that of our second meal outside and we only ate there again on our last night as we had to pack etc, my partner opted for the buffet and in all honesty it was a total rip off, hence why the restaurant is empty every night. It a great pity as if they were more competitive with the outside restaurants I am sure they would do well.

About 5 mins walk from the hotel is a Thai restaurant I think called Mama Putul, food here was dead cheap and deliciuos (although limited for vegetarians)

We hired a driver/guide two days who took us out for 8-9 hours a day for £20.00 each. His knowledge was great and spoke fantastic English answering all our questions, his name is Made Sudiana tel [--] email [--]. I would highly recommend a visit to Bali Bird Park - a totally amazing experience. Also the Monkey forest. Turtle Island was a big disappointment, we thought it was a natural breeding place for the turtles but turned out to be a small zoo exploiting the animals..!!!

I would definitely recommend the Mercure Sanur Resort if you are looking for a quiet/peaceful holiday. The only disappointment would be the lack of entertainment, a weekly cultural show would be a good idea. They offer a free shuttle bus to the local supermarket Hardy's so you can stock up on cold drinks and snacks and you can use this as transport to the local restarants and bars. We would use this hotel again without a doubt.

I was very disappointed with this hotel! The bathroom was tiny and had mould in the grout. The bed had a big stain - gross! Worst of all was that the balcony doors were not able to fully seal so mosquitos were able to come into the room!

On arrival, they were incredibly courteous and generous, providing a honeymoon cake, basket of fruit and other such goodies! This was the nicest welcome we had in bali.

The beach is the nicest area of Sanur, but Mercure is not the nicest looking hotel: 2 hotels away is the Puri Santurian (sic) which had the nicest beach chairs/cabanas to sit at. We hung out there a bit because of how much nicer it was.

The distance from town is ok if u use the shuttle, but it also means you need to rely on this service to get to town to do your shopping. Walking in the heat & humidity for 30 mins + is not pleasant for most people.

The rooms were ok, but the walls were paper thin. We heard every cough and sneeze from our neighbours, and it sounded like they were moving furniture every morning to wake us up. This was the biggest disappointment of the hotel.

The other disappointment was that all the free planned social activities for the hotel never happened. We were there 6 days, and every day we went looking for the beach volleyball or any other activity, & every day they had a new excuse why there were no activities happening.

It was ok for the price, but I would look at the Puri Santurian next time if the price is similar. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for honeymooners (who want sound-proof walls). For all others, it's a good stay.
