Mercure Resort Sanur

Reviewed January 18, 2014

This is our 3rd visit to the Mercure and second time to the same room
We booked 2 Deluxe rooms on top floor, the rooms are large and so is the bathroom BUT
going up the stairs and on top landing there was squirrel faeces everywhere, you couldn't hold on to the wall as you walked up the stairs as they were covered in it. The smell was terrible so it was very unpleasant and unsafe. The floor in bedroom had corn chips and hair everywhere it hadn't been cleaned. The bathroom floor was all wet due to the fact that the hand basin was leaking, the shower was filthy ( I had to clean this myself later with bleach) the drain hole where the water went out was so dirty. The fridge had no shelves in it even non on the door and the freezer part was frozen up.
So I contacted housekeeping to come to the room, they never came after 30 minutes so I went looking for someone, finely I got the supervisor from housekeeping showed him the unhygienic
mess left by the squirrel and our room, they came and cleaned everything plus gave us another fridge.
The squirrel issue was on going, every morning there would be faeces all over the stairs and landing. Also Squirrel Faeces could be found throughout the restaurant .
I did ask to speak to the manager and was told he would get in contact with me, well we were there for 4 nights and we never saw him.
The good side of the hotel is the location, the bed was Huge, CLEAN and very Comfortable
The staff that we had anything to do with were very nice.
Breakfast if its not in your package do not have it, its not worth the price.

Room Tip: Deluxe and on top floor

The Mercure Sanur is in fact quite a big hotel, but you don't feel like it because the rooms are situated in small invidual houses with mostly four rooms, surrounded by a very beautfiul tropical garden with its own little temple. First we had booked for a shorter period, but we decided to stay longer. When we arrived our room was not ready, but they invited us to a welcome drink. One of the staff at the reception has studied in France - so he made us feel welcome speaking French, which was very nice.
The location is really nice. Our room was all right, with a big balcony looking into the green. I read some complaints here, but I do not agree - except that there were no seperate lights for each side of the bed for reading without disturbing the other.
The tropical garden and the two swimming pools are very well kept and the hotel is situated in the quiet southern part of Sanur. So you don't risk millions of people walk by and stare on you when you lounge on their private beach. If you want to go to central Sanur, they offer a free shuttle or bikes. There are also several restaurants in walking distance.
The breakfast offers a large choice, so no complaints - contrary to the Balinese evening at the hotel restaurant. Besides Balinese dancing they promised "from seven o'clock on" an all you can eat buffet with local specialities, including the famous Balinese suckling pig. We arrived at 7h20 and there was nearly no suckling pig any more. The quality of the Nasi Goreng on the buffet was also not so good as during breakfast and overall the buffet was disappointing. We were not the only ones complaining, so in the end they offered us a discount.
Overall I can recommand the Mercure Sanur if you want to relax in a quiet, beautiful surrounding, away from crowded Kuta and Seminyak. But be aware of the Balinese evening!

I stayed here from 24 Dec - 1 Jan and found this hotel to meet all expectations. We were on the second floor and had a great balcony that overlooked the beautiful manicured gardens. The rooms were quite large and contained a fridge and safe and super cold air con! The king size bed was the most comfortable bed I have sleep in a hotel yet. We found after returning from breakfast the rooms would have already been serviced. The hotel had two great sized pools with bars and poolside service, as well as having deckchairs on the beach. This strip of beach must be owned by the hotel and as such no Hawkers are there to bother you, unlike the Kuta beach strip. The hotel provides a free regular shuttle bus to Hardy's in down town Sanur. We were a family of eight and none of us had any problems with the hotel. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the second floor if you wish to utilise the balcony.

The resort is beautiful! The gardens are amazing! We loved the two pools - great fun and refreshing to swim in. The location is perfect - right on the beach. Very relaxing to sit on the beach lounges and enjoy the view. There is a lovely walk along Sanur beach. Ate at their restaurant for breakfast and dinner - food is nice. There are also many other places to eat nearby which have delicious food for cheap prices. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Had a great holiday there!
