“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Our trip to Bali began at the Mercure Resort In Sanur. All we requested was that it have a queen or king bed. We arrived in a rain storm and were greeted with umbrellas and smiles and assistance to our room. Our room was right by the beach with a king size bed. Our stay was terrific. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food very good, the grounds are beautiful, and location excellent. We have read the other reviews. It all depends on what you are looking for. The rooms are a little dated, but large and comfortable with great balconies. And everywhere we travel, people always seem to complain about the bathroom showers. We have travelled a bit and have found so many places we stay the floors get wet outside the showers. We did not have this problem in our room, but my suggestion is to put a towel down before you shower. Unfortunately this is not eco wise as you will go through more towels. We thought the lobby was beautiful. The resort provides free transportation into areas of town many times during the day, (although we walked everywhere) and they have an excellent company situated in the lobby that provided us with one of the best tours and tour guides (Thank you Gustav and Aerotravel) we have been on.

We highly recommend the Mercure Sanur. You won't be disappointed. - RJ and Paula

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the beach.

This is the worst hotel i've ever stay at! On this trip i didn't inform about the renovation they performed, so the lobby was closed and we have to enter the resort via small lounge which i don't think it's a proper hotel lounge. The ts room kind of dark which made me afraid of the insect or bug who can easily slip on the couch and bed. The worst part was the bathroom. It's really hard to open/close the door since is a slide folded type and to make it worsen the water splat from the shower made the wooden door ruined. There's no split level on the shower area to prevent water splash all around. The front door also couldn't close fit since the hinge it's not perfectly attached. There's a hole at the bottom side which can allow small animal and insect get through your room very easy. Horrible!
The plus point are the pool & beach are clean. The breakfast also good & the staff also very friendly.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in April.
Location is perfect! Right at the end of the beach strip, with private beach and an amazing area under the palm trees to relax on the loungers.
Much nicer part of the beach than hotels further up, which are more like harbors and full of dirty boats and locals bathing their kids.
2 pools are great. Food was very good. Though we did mostly eat at the little Local restaurants beach side. Room was lovely and clean. Bed was super comfy!
Service was excellent. Grounds are huge and lush...though we did get lost a few times.
The main part of town is under $2 cab ride. Or they do have free buses during the day.
Would suggest for anyone looking to relax.

Room Tip: Ask to be close to the beach

I stayed here to attend a dance festival in mid-April.
Here's the things I liked:
very spacious, cool rooms if you upgrade from their basic room, which is about only 20 dollars more expensive. It has a comfy sofa you can sleep in, and it's so much nicer! I couldn't believe the difference 20 dollars makes! From the size difference alone, I would have thought it would be about 50 dollars more!Tip: if you're going to stay here, definitely spend the extra cash on the upgrade! their standard room is a bit cramped, looks almost shabby for some reason and the lighting isn't great. But it is clean. If you're staying alone, that's probably fine, but if there's two of you sharing a room, trust me, you'll really appreciate the extra space. Their bathrooms are sized generously, the upgrade we got meant that our bathroom was lovely and big, whereas the standard room's bathroom was quite small. The aircon works really well, a welcome retreat from the tropical heat.
There's a really nice vibe to this place, I enjoyed strolling around the grounds. There's a beach a little further down from the swimming pool, and I definitely felt relaxed and content while staying here.
Their room service menu is quite good-better than most hotels in this price range I've experienced in Sanur. We tried just about everything over the five days we stayed here, and nothing was bad. If you get tired of room service and tend to eat late like us, since that's what our schedule allowed for, places like the Luhtu's cafe will deliver their tasty food to you at the hotel for a fraction of the price if you can't get away from the hotel.
The breakfast was ok-what I'd expect from a place like this, but didn't blow me away.
Water pressure in the shower was annoying. It took a while for the water to warm up, then once it did, water pressure could tend to be a bit poor. The water even stopped running once when I took a late night shower! I had to wait 15 minutes for the water to come back on.

Overall, even though Sanur isn't the most exciting place, it's nice for a quiet break. I'd only come back to Mercure Sanur if I stayed in the suite, their standard room isn't that great for the price.

Unfortunately, their housekeeping service needs improvement, some of their staff weren't so friendly, and on some days, they hadn't cleaned our room even though it was late afternoon!

And even though the bathrooms were nice, the water pressure wasn't consistent,

This was my second visit to this hotel this year. I was so impressed with my first visit I wanted to stay again and have just returned after an 8 day stay there.
The reception area is having a new thatch roof built so it is closed and off limits and I think this should be included in any advertising any hotel does stating renovations are taking place.

That said my stay was peaceful and pleasant. The staff are very friendly and discrete. There seems to be an army of groundsmen attending the lush gardens and pools areas but I would recommend the pool areas be swept before the guests arrive for the day and not during the day.

The beach is immaculate and cleaned everyday with ample water sports on offer from adjacent private companies. The beach and pool areas are very child friendly but no life guards on duty at any time.

Annoyingly, the clean beach and quiet location is now well known by back backers staying in hostels nearby and they regularly try to occupy hotel sunbeds and even access the pool and shower facilities. Hotel security tries to be vigilant but on a number of occasions I witnessed these non paying guests use the hotel facilities.

Buffet breakfast is good and plentiful. A little more variety would be welcome but is is certainly well above average.

This hotel is excellent value, clean, friendly and relaxing. I will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor units.

I organized an large event in Mercure Resort, Sanur a few weeks ago and over all we were satisfied with most things.

I knew that the hotel is quite old, but i felt that it wouldnt be a major problem.

The resort lay out is really quite nice. When i visited the first time, the hotel was fully functioning with a beautiful lobby and Guest Lounge with shower facilities, wifi etc for guests who need to wait for check-in etc. i thought this facility is a brilliant idea as many travellers arrive dirty, sweaty and it's nice to have a cool relaxing place to rest while waiting.

Overall, everything was fine. I just think that if operations staff paid more attention to detail it would make a huge difference.

Breakfast was fine. Nothing spectacular, but pretty good. Restaurant items were moderately priced and nicely done.

Their 2 swimming pools is really one of the main highlights of the resort.

Pros:
- free wifi...although very very slow
- Guest Lounge
- good layout of resort with 2 swimming pools and private beach (although mornings are low tide, so it's better later in the day)
- helpful staff. I complained of a leaking air conditioner and they immediately came to fix it.

Cons:
- housekeeping is lacking. more attention to detail is needed.
- Rooms were not well-maintained with broken beds, lights etc
- Seems to be understaffed overall. One staff at Reception was extremely un-friendly.

I think the resort is pretty good value for money, but i feel like since the resort isn't new, they should pay more attention to cleanliness and friendliness of staff to make the guest's stay more enjoyable. Most people booking won't expect a new fancy room, but if the room is clean and in good condition, i think most people will be very happy.
