Situated in an enclave of high-class resorts in Nusa Dua, Bali, upon arriving at the entrance I immediately felt the sense of exclusivity. The journey from the BTDC entrance to the hotel marks the beginning of a wonderful vacation. The roads were very well-maintained and created a colourful contrast with the botanical surroundings. Security is rather tight with thick gantries and guards stopping and scanning every vehicle, which is good and gave me extra comfort. Service was marvellous, the staff is really good at making guests feel how they should feel - important & happy, simple. It was my birthday on the arrival day and I was given not one, but 3 surprises! Thanks to Ayu and the guys at Prego :)
Room - We were being upgraded to the premium-wing which is the new building of the resort. The room is very clean and spacious and designs are modern. There is nothing much to complain except that it is a long walk from the beach and the room is always cold, even after we turned off the air-conditioned a few hours later, still cold. We suspect there is a centralised air-conditioning. At night, the air-con is loud as well.
Private beach - There were enough tanning chairs and the sand is very clean. Everyone seems to be enjoying as much as their neighbours and that makes the ambience very quiet and relaxing. If you don't like the sun, there are enough trees for shade and gazebos to laze around. The gazebos are a catch (about 160K rp) if you are planning to hang out the whole day (come with a plate of fruits).
Swimming pool - The waters were clean and of a nice green-ish blue tone that compliments the tropical architecture. However, be careful of rough edges especially the steps underwater and the side walls. Got myself bruised a few times.
Food - Sad to say, food was quite a let down at Westin. There weren't many choices and one of the restaurants were closed for renovation. Capsicum cafe looks dark and unattractive with less than 2 tables every time we pass by, Prego is too far away from everything, Ikan has limited food choices.. Our first meal was at Prego for dinner which we had mushroom soup and pasta. The soup was bland and portion was big. The ingredients for my seafood pasta were rather stingy.. all I can see was noodles, it was quite hard and I didn't finish it. Vongole (clams) in the vongole pasta were really tiny too.. but not too bad. Their main seafood dishes were better. My boyfriend had diarrhoea after Ikan lunch the next day. We suspect is the iced water as we had the same dish. Dinner at Ikan again and we had grilled seafood. Ordered lobster and whole snapper with white wine sauce, both were good. Both mornings when we were there, we ordered room service breakfast. First morning was OK but things got terribly wrong on the second. I felt really nauseous and my stomach was churning quite badly after breakfast. Something about the food must be wrong. I lost all appetite and had an awful ending to the vacation :(
Despite so, I will still return because it is one of the best hotel in bali for a wonderful holiday :)
