I've been there sometime ago and I really enjoyed it. Very nice and spacious suite with princess bed. The only unconfortable thing was the umidity in the room, despite the noisy dehumidifier. Overall I can suggest to anybody looking for a romantic holiday.

I stayed at the Melia recently because I was attending a conference there. Frankly, I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay in the Nusa Dua area unless, like me, you are attending an event there and don't really have a choice. Nusa Dua is the least Balinese of all Bali's beaches. It's a large gated complex containing several large upmarket hotels and the main convention centre (where the 2013 APEC Summit was held). There are much better beaches to be found on the island. The stretch in front of Melia is particularly uninviting at low tide. What a contrast to Seminyak, a wide shimmering expanse. And unlike Seminyak, Jimbaran and other areas, Nusa Dua lacks independent seafood restaurants on the beach.

If work does confine you to Nusa Dua, though, the Melia is a good choice, probably cheaper than some of the other more luxurious options, but perfectly fine. The decor shows its age (it was built in the 1980s) but everything is well maintained. The wifi was superb – it worked everywhere, even at the beachside bistro. Service is excellent and the food is good. The Bali Connection mall is next door, a 10 minute walk. This has several modern Indonesian and Western restaurants, and the competition keeps prices low.

Room Tip: The hotel is sprawling, and Building IV is pretty long walk from the lobby.

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali,

Dear AirconditionedNation,

We are so glad to hear you were quite happy with our hotel, facilities and services. However we are sorry to hear that you do not really like the hotel location. Nusa Dua area is a great area to get away from the masses area like Kuta, Seminyak and Jimbaran; while still being able to enjoy great dining and sightseeing. As the new toll bridge had recently opened, distance does not matter anymore to go anywhere.

Do get in contact with any of us for any specific requests or information on your return visit.

Best regards,

We stayed at the Melia Bali for our honeymoon. We had a great time! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service was great. The room we stayed in was a bit dark but always very clean. In the bathroom you could see that the hotel is getting older and would need some renovation. The breakfast was absolutely great. There was plenty of everything you could dream of and there was a very nice eating area in the patio. The hotel site was extremely beautiful and you could tell that it was well maintained.

I stayed here during a global conference.

The Melia Bali is located within the Nusa Dua resort enclave, which is a secure, gated community where you can find these huge 5-star hotels. The place is clean but is a sanitized version of Bali. It's a bit far from the noise and parties of Kuta, and the cultural delights of Ubud.

Coming into the property, you can get overwhelmed by its sheer size. You can get lost here! Check in can take a long time, especially if there are tour groups and conventioneers checking in with you. Check in staff are friendly but a bit stiff. There at around 4-5 wings where the rooms are, and if you happen to be placed in Building 4, you'll be in for a long walk. The decor of each room is a bit muted for Bali. The bed is large and comfy, with lots of pillows. There is a large balcony, which in my case, faces the lagoon-type swimming pool, which I think is only accessible to the ground-floor rooms that open to it. The bathroom is rather smallish for a 5-star hotel. There is a large flat-screen TV, and the wifi is free, and quite fast. You have to do a bit of walking to reach the large swimming pool and the beach. The grounds are expansive, with a lot of tropical flowers, greenery, sculpture and fountains.

You have your breakfast in the large cafe, and there is a large choice of fare, from continental, breads, an egg station, Japanese, Korean, local, etc. But it does get very busy starting around 7:30, when the tour groups descend. Come in early, and go for the tables outside, near the fountains and fish pond.

It's a 6-minute walk to the Bali Collection shopping mall, where you can choose from several restaurants, have a Starbucks Coffee, exchange money, view and haggle for souvenirs, and get some groceries. If you're looking for cheaper stuff, get a taxi (Blue Bird!) and go to Hardy's Supermarket, which is outside the gates, around a 5-minute ride towards the airport.

All in all, this self-contained mega hotel would suite those who prefer just to stay in one place, and just soak in the waters of the pools or the beach (which I find not to be that enticing). But for those who want to go out and explore the real Bali, this place would be rather far and cloistered.

Room Tip: This is a huuuuge place, so try to be strategic when choosing which wing to stay in.

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali!

Dear TheShrike_inManila,

As a business traveler I understand you are often on busy schedule, so thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Nusa Dua area is a great area to get away from the masses while still being able to enjoy great dining and sightseeing. Had stayed in 55 different hotels, we believe that you have written the most objective review of our hotel.

Many people say "big is beautiful", we have 4 different buildings in our hotel, unlike other cities worldwide, in Bali we are not allowed to build a high raised skyscraper buildings. The maximum number of floor is only four (4) levels or not higher than the height of coconut palm trees. This local regulation was made to keep and maintain the Balinese culture, also not becoming to be a concrete jungle like in other metropolitan cities. This for sure, will make Bali island, the people, the culture really unique and different. One of the uniqueness is that on nyepi (silent) day, we seized all daily activities, no vehicles and transportation (except for emergency), switched off the lights, closed the airport for 24 hours!

Thanks for reviewing us and we hope to see you again soon!

Best regards,

We spend couple of days at Melia Bali and were really satisfied with the hotel.
The location of the hotel is amazing. Hotel itself has so many green areas, the swimingpool is very nice as well. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was also very nice - so many things to choose. Maybe only juice during breakfast should be fresh and not so warm. I really enjoyed all the aspects of the hotel.
Ofcourse it's a little bit old hotel and some places would need a renovation, but overall it didn't bother us at all.
I really recomend this hotel especially to coules who want to have some romantic time in Bali.
We loved it!
