Just returned from 10 days at the Melia Bali. Excellent hotel with Brilliant staff. While we were there the hotel had lots of delegates from the APEC meeting happening just down the road, including the Mexican president. The staff were always happy and exceeded our expectations daily. The room and public areas are spotlessly clean and with a wonderful pool area, where you can take part in the organised events or just chill out quietly. The beach is noticeably cleaner at the Melia's area. We ate mostly at the Bali collection which is a five minute walk from the hotel, with our best meal in the Benihana's in the Opera complex.

Since the day we arrived to the hotel, we asked for a solution to a personal problem which is we needed a water supply beside the toilet. Most hotels offered a hose beside the toilet except in Bali, that is what the receptionist said. After asking to find a solution for me, the solution came in three days in the form of a plastic bucket !!!

The room service was too annoying. Every five minutes at the morning around nine a.m. someone would come and knock knock...one time to ask for laundry, one time to ask if you need bottled water, a third to give you their deal on Octoberfest, etc... Why don't they do all this when they come to clean the room?!!! And you know what, one day my baby left a banana skin on the floor, so when we came back, we found it beside the bed!!

The room design is the stupidest I ever saw in my life. With no electricity plugs beside your bed, you have the option to use either the plug under that piece of furniture you put your bag on, or the one above the desk. So if your laptop needs charging, you cannot use it with comfort on your bed, and if you would like to charge your mobile when you sleep, be ready to stand up and go to switch off the alarm in case you decided you need more sleep.

The private beach is calm, but not wow. The ground is full of algae and corals and the water is shallow. Just to the south if you walk on the beach and cross to the other bay south of the hotel, you will find more amazing beach, with less corals, deeper water to swim in. That is the public beach in front of The Bay Bali. This is a place full of restaurants where you can also have a bite if you get hungry in the resort.

My wife got sick, and the resorts doctor saw her, he was incompetent. Vomiting everything she ate or drunk, he insisted that she has to drink something. After one day I asked him to give her an infusion and he said give her water with sugar....she will vomit it. I had to take her to the hospital where she got hospitalized due to the presence of some sort of amoeba that made her vomit and diarrhea, and they had to give her 6 infusions before she can eat anything.

The only person I do appreciate in this hotel is the omelet's Chef Nyoman, who was really understandable. She knew that we have dietary requirement that we cannot eat pork, so whenever she saw me she washed the pan voluntarily to assure me that my omelet was never in touch with bacon previously put in the same pan.

Believe me there are better places in Bali where you can go and enjoy calmness other than that noisy crew hotel.

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali.

Dear Harfash4eveR,

We are deeply apologetic for the difficulties you encountered during your stay with us. At the same time, we appreciate your comments and suggestions about our room services and facilities, such as the electricity plugs for battery charger, water jet spray, etc. Currently, we have installed these facilities in our Lagoon Access Suites.

Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your comments as we are constantly looking to improve in all areas of our hotel. We hope to have you back in the newly renovated room in the future.

Best regards,

We just arrived home from our trip to Melia Bali so the experience is fresh in my mind. I would give it more of a 3.5 rating then a 4 but not for the reasons you might expect. First, the property is beautiful, expansive, and true to what you'd want from a beach resort vacation. The pool is lovely. The staff very friendly and warm. The reasons for the lower rating would be for the rooms and service themselves. The Family Room we stayed in was actually a great size and layout but there was only one shower, which would be fine except that it was tiny (and was broken) so we couldn't take a bath because if you moved the switch the whole shower quit working. The technician came after two calls and fixed it enough so that we could use the shower portion of it. Fine, we are an easy going family so we can roll...but that's definitely not a 5 star experience. Also the front desk staff was very understaffed. They had a huge APEC conference happening so the security was insane...but the front staff had no more than 3 people at the front counter at anyone time, with queues wrapping around the lobby. That's also not a 5 star experience, either.

Last, this may be Bali in general but the properties in Nusa Dua have a lovely beach, but you can't swim in the ocean. The buoys are about 30 feet out and the water only goes to your knees. So if you are expecting to go for an Ocean Swim (rent a boat) because its not possible.
What I equate this to as an American is taking a trip to Ft. Lauderdale. Its pretty enough, relaxing enough, clean enough...but only good for a short trip, not a week long vacation.

We enjoyed our trip, would recommend Melia Bali, but only with full disclosure and a good deal.

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali.

Dear DawnDNew,

Thank you very much for spending some times to write your review on the tripadvisor. We are delighted to hear that you found our family rooms are quite spacious and accommodating. We are sorry to hear that you experience some difficulties with the shower in your room.

In regards to the APEC meeting, some guests also commenting the same. But please understand that all hotels in Nusa Dua have to follow the rules and regulations set by the military authorities. You could imagine the security and protocol of having one Head of State, and during APEC there were 21 Head of States in Nusa Dua area, supposed to be 22 Head of States!

Look forward to welcoming you and the family back!

Since my last review I have stayed at Melia Bali on two other occasions and will be there again in 3 weeks. They now have a new GM from Spain and he and his lovely wife are a pleasure to be with. It is still remarkable to me that such a first class hotel as this has the ability to make an individual guest feel special. Every member of staff from top to bottom are so warm and friendly and willing to assist with any enquiry. Add to that the magnificent venue and it is truly heaven! Cheers, Ray and Ann Richardson.

Hello!
This place is the best! The pool is very nice. It is very family oriented and has a Kid's Club so you can leave your kids with people and they do activities. There is also a private beach that is very nice and calm. The rooms are clean. The breakfast is very good with a lot of food. Nice Place.

Awesome hotel. Great service and lovely lush green surroundings. Rooms are very spacious and always kept very clean. Hats off to the management for including a green-eco option where you can either choose if you want your bed sheets changed and washed everyday or not, so that you can eventually save energy used in the washing.

Great experience and the food was brilliant too.
