“A great choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2009

We've just returned back from a lovely stay at the Lugana Resort in Nusa Dua. The hotel is good and what you would expect from a 5 star but what makes it more special are the people who are lovely and incredibly welcoming. We had a garden room deluxe room which was fantastic... you can get rooms which open onto the lagoon but for the extra money we didn't feel it was worth it. The afternnon tea (tea/coffee and cakes- all free of charge) is a really nice touch.....plus there's a great choice for breakfast ...

Pools are great and the beach is good (not the best i've seen but still pretty good). We didn't eat dinner in the hotel as its quite pricey (especially drinks) - but you can walk to a nearby area with loads of restaurants or just take a taxi outside the resort area to loads of great balianese restaurants.

The hotel does offer a taxi service, but we just took local taxis who were all very friendly and are happy to wait for you when you go for dinner / out for the day etc...

Only thing I would say about the hotel is that it is quite quiet in the evenings - so not the place for nightlife .... but if you want relaxation then this hotel is a fantastic choice.

This Hotel was simply amazing. The entire team looked like a familly and was extremely friendly and warm. Smile is a natural way of life in this resort, and you seem to be all by yourself despite of a quite large number of rooms. Restaurants and bars were extremely good, and housekeeping very efficient and discreet.
Simply unforgettable...

This hotel can't be faulted. I had trouble choosing hotels in Bali but im glad i chose this one.

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we had an amazing time. This was the first stop on our honeymoon and were here for 5 nights.

Food in the restaurant was so good, we opted to eat here most of the time.

The resort is great, the beach was lovely, the lagoon area is incredible and is exactly what i call paradise.

The staff were very attentive and while i write this review, i cannot think of one bad thing to say about this hotel.

Ok - it is not exactly close to the 'sites' of bali but it isn't out of reach!

Would recommend and would definately go there again.

We had a great stay at the Laguna, lovely setting with seven swimmable lagoons. The rooms were spacious, well-equipped and clean. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice. Prices for lunch and dinner were quite high so we ate in the restaurants at Bali collection mall or restaurants at the main road just outside the gates (slightly cheaper than Bali collection). The hotel does a happy hour for cocktails at the beach bar, which is a good deal. The afternoon tea is a really nice touch, with little cakes and dance performances. We had a massage in a spa in Bali Collection, which was cheaper than in the hotel (and very good), but in other parts of Bali (Kuta or Ubud) you get massages for a fraction of the price.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, although Nusa Dua seems a lot more expensive than other parts of Bali.

The management and staff made our holiday a very happy and enjoyable experience.

The resort swimming pools were great, our room was very clean and comfortable.

Food is a very important part of our holiday , the standard and presentation of the food was excellent.

We highly recommend The Laguna Resort & Spa

We checked in to the hotel with the help of Tour East (our local agent) and the welcome you receive on arrival is superb. We had requested a Lagoon Access room, which was luckily for us on the quiter side of the hotel - not that any of it is noisy really.... but we weren't near the kids pools. The hotel complex has all the pools, restaurants etc that you need to stop you leaving the resort. It is all stupidly over-proced in the restaurants and although the food is good - you can eat just as well 5 minutes down the road in town.
Nusa Dua itself is like a castle - there is a security gate to get into Nusa Dua (which is just a resort of 5 star hotels) then security to get into your hotel car park, then more secuirty checks to get into reception. It's not intrusive in anyway, but you really are protected from the 'real world'. Shame really, as the real world was really nice in the town.
So, you have the peace and quiet you want within the hotel, and no worries when it comes to good food to avoid the dreaded Bali-Belly - but where is the fun in living that safe? If you stay in Nusa Dua, get out and see some of the folks in the town - and go and eat in Tropicals (where a 3 course meal for 2 is the same price as a bottle of wine)

Now we're not flush by any means & I've only seen the inside of a 5 star hotel lobby once before being asked to leave, so if this sounds like you read on. Trip advisor can be confusing at times with different reviews from all types of people looking for different things..... This traveller & his new wife were looking for a romantic, tropical 5 star destination that would offer a dream honeymoon & we weren't disappointed!
We got a deluxe Garden view room on the 3rd floor, they just weren't giving uprades even if you are a member of their "SPG Club", but you know what, it was perfect. The air-con was brillaint, the room was very clean & spacious, the view of the gardens beautiful and we were happy out! The food in the resort was great, good choice & they had an outdoor buffet event at least 3 times a wk worth checking out! Staff were outstanding, very helpful, always pleasant & courteous. Pools were great, no loud music, always sun loungers available & relaxing. Beach looked great but alot of sharp coral in the water. Loved the gazebo's at night, acoustic music @ sands bar every 2nd nite, warm breeze blowing off the ocean, cool beer....heaven!
Only slight negatives - Gov tax & service charges change the price dramatically! We ate at Bali Collection(Shopping center with loads of restaurants) alot of nights cause the food was just as good & half the price! Enjoyed eating in the resort but better value in Bali collection (10 mins walk away). Wine prices ridiculus....Oz is only 4 hours away...why so expensive! Beer pricey in hotel too. Spa is also V. expensive although the massage by the beach is nice.
We felt very safe in Nusa Dua, security is a little intimadating at first but very reassuring. Ignore all Taxi drivers in the bushes outside the resort, yes they literally are in the bushes just outside the gates! Unless you only want to pay €5 (80,000 rph) to go to Kuta.
The country is very very poor and shocking in some places outside of Nusa Dua but Bali is a beautiful country.
Drive at your own peril as these guys don't follow many rules, there's not even any speed limits in Bali! Even I got a shock sometimes.
The hotel does have one major problem though...the music in the hallways & elevators. I'm sorry & would never want to offend another culture but the music of Bali is very annoying after a day or so listening too it, especially when all the tunes sound the same! It was like the cd in the hotel was on repeat! Maybe it's to encourage you not to hang around the hallways & elevators...if so it works!

All in all though it is quite an amazing place which we'd love to go back too and can't recommend highly enough for a quite, relaxing, romantic, tropical honeymoon in a beautiful place. There is also plenty of things to do (cultural, adventure and sightseeing) we just went on 1 boat trip though and relaxed the rest of the time which was just perfect. Not too many kids around this resort either which is good for Honeymooners.

The reviews are true, especially this one, as I wrote it....but I hope if your like me and are wondering if these reviews could possibly live up to expectation...trust me they can. I haven't been to many 5 Star hotels and might not ever again, but this place was magical and if this sounds like it's for you then I pray you have the same amazing time we had. Enjoy.
