“Clean and Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at The Laguna for four nights. The first room we got was hot and musty, the room and hallway reeked of cigarette smoke, and the room did not seem "ready" for occupancy, ie the slippers were not laid out ready for use and no welcome fruits were on the table. We noticed this because we booked two rooms and the other room next door was noticeably different, having all that was missing from our room.

The hotel staff, however, was very helpful and accomodating and ensured we got a more acceptable room in a different wing and floor.

The room was clean, comfortable, great air conditioning, nice bed, free wifi. Can't fault it. The bathroom was also good and spacious, although getting in and out of the huge tub/shower can be dangerous. I always had a sigh of relief after safely getting out of that shower/tub.

Overall service at the restaurants was helpful, courteous and pleasant, except for the first morning when one waitress was quite rude until we complained about her attitude; she eventually apologized. Sad to say, she improved a lot when she heard us speaking in English. Plenty of choices in the buffet with good taste but there was a significant reduction in the buffet on our last day, a Friday. We inquired about this and were informed that only the placement of dishes was changed, but we all noticed the lesser number of dishes. Still enough to choose from, just less of them.

Overall, the hotel is what one would expect from a luxury hotel. I was not overly impressed but I was not disappointed either. It's a good hotel to stay in. Quite comfortable. However, given a choice on a subsequent trip for the same area between the Laguna and the Westin right next door, I would stay at the Westin. They had more updated rooms with a good layout and a safer bathroom.

The Laguna resort was very pleasant. It's located in the gated tourist compound of Nusa Dua on the southeast coast of Bali, so the surroundings are manicured palm trees and flowers rather than "real" Bali city. (This may be good or bad depending on what you are looking for.) The resort itself was beautiful -- a LARGE twisting pool with many swim-up rooms, and a picturesque beach --, though the rooms and interior hallways do show their age. (There's a little bit of peeling paint, but it's still very pleasant.) The food was tasty and the staff was VERY attentive and helpful.

Overall recommendation: a very-pleasant place to spend a night or two in Bali, if you're looking for a gated beach resort. Lacks the "wow" factor of some neighbors (e.g., St. Regis) but genuine and pleasant. Would stay again.

We recently stayed at the Laguna for 8 days in February 2014 in a Laguna view room and I have nothing but praise for the hotel, its facilities, the staff and the restaurants.

It is a beautiful location on Nusa Dua and the lagoons are a lovely touch as combined with the fact that the hotel was not full made for a wonderfully relaxing break.

The staff were courteous and helpful at all times and always ready to offer a smile and greeting.

I would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Loved the Laguna view room

I recently stayed at this wonderful place for a couple of days.
The resort is simply beautiful. The laguna around the hotel is stunning.
The facilities such as the gym and the spa are among the most well equipt I have ever seen so far in any hotel. The rooms are spacious and quiet with great cleaning service every day.
The staff is really helpful and friendly.
The prices are generally quite high. Buffet breakfast is 250.000IDR per person. Buffet dinner is 400.000IDR.
However a number of restaurants are available within 10 minutes walking distance.
Overall a great place to stay for relaxation with direct access to the ocean.

As I have had my share of 'local experience' hotels over the years this place is the perfect gated resort and this time enjoyed the disconnection from the 'real Bali'. No touts to hassle you and the staff are there when needed and not intrusive. The place was a little on the old side but to me it has a little charm because of that so if you are looking for something clinical then look elsewhere. Great pool network, plenty of bars and an easy walk to the shops and other resorts. I really enjoyed the food there which had a nice combination of Western and Asian cuisines. Sure the price of drinks is expensive but this is a five star resort so if that makes you uncomfortable BYO or check into downtown Kuta instead. The grounds are spacious and the beach is fine except if you want to swim there as it is a bit shallow and rocky but the swimming pools more than make up for that.
I was there for a conference and the facilities were first rate and well organised by the hotel management.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have a swim up pool access.

This was my first time in Bali let alone The Laguna Resort. I stayed here from the 19th September, 2013 for 4 nights. When I first arrived I was Wowed by the grounds. All kept so clean, spacious and everyone around was so friendly. I was in room 154 which is a swim up pool room. It was lovely and clean with a beautiful cosy balcony with access to a pool. The only thing I can complain about is the bathroom needed renovating. The bath itself was cracked in 3 places. When I checked out, Daria was serving me, I brought up the cracked bath and all I got was "sorry about that". I just expected more being a 5 star resort. Apart from that I was very happy with the property and the service. I do recommend this resort, however if the same thing happened I would have tried to change rooms.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money on a swim up pool room. It's so worth it.

This is my second trip to Bali. The first time, I wanted to be at the heart of the action and stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Kuta. This time, I was looking for a place for relaxation. I found it at this resort.

* Check-in: efficient, and staff is very friendly and knowledgable
* Housekeeping: rooms are clean and well-maintained; housekeeping is unobtrusive
* Hotel staff: professional, helpful and they bend over backwards to accommodate you. After an initial hiccup with our first room -- it did not appear to be prepped for guests -- missing slippers and the welcome basket of fruit and the smell of cigarettes, the staff moved us quickly to another area whose hallways also smelled of smoke. Third time's a charm -- we were moved to a good room and all was well. Staff returned to make sure we were settled in.
* Room: nice and roomy -- we stayed at 313 which had a view of one of the many pools in the resort. The only complaint would be the bath tub which had a tall sloping side as you enter and could be a safety issue as there are no readily accessible safety bars to hold onto.
* Grounds - beautiful, spacious and well-maintained. There is always something of interest to see in the gardens, and the pools (with artificial beaches) are inviting and uncrowded. There is a kiddie pool as well and the water temperature is perfect! The best part of the grounds are the cabanas which rent for a half or full day (around 10USD for half). We rented one almost everyday of our stay, closest to the beach area. From there, vendors quietly walk the beaches with their wares. Security is around to ensure they do not bother the guests but we did find some bargains after a little haggling. Staff is attentive with towels, complimentary fruit and water and easy ordering from the nearby bar. Although we didn't get one, some cabanas were equipped for beach side massages.
* Breakfast: a good variety with continental, Japanese and local dishes. A good sampling of delicious fare.
* Surrounding area: a shuttle takes you to a shopping center with a number of shops, restaurants and clubs. A walk down the beach takes you to other hotels in the area. Easily walkable and safe.

A very enjoyable stay! We wanted to stay longer.

Room Tip: Ask for one closer to the beach front if that's where you'd like to spend your time as some...
