“Simply a great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

We just had our second stay at the Laguna for 5 nights after spending the first 4 nights at the Samaya in Seminyak.

Before you book in Bali you need to know what your looking for. Want a heap of restaurants, shopping, busy beach front (pretty polluted though) and Kuta is a bit down wind? Then Seminyak is a good start. If your looking for a nice rest, or a place to take the kids where they can swim in relative safety and have heaps of pool fun then Nusa Dua is better.

There are many hotel / resorts and we stayed originally at the Laguna, the next trip the St Regis (which has better restaurants but a crappy beach with a lot of rocks). This last trip back to the Laguna. The beach is not surf so you can lay in the water which is clean and warm. The resort has more pools than most, even kids pools with sandy beaches.

The buffet restaurant is OK but their restaurant on the beach is better. Just remember you can take a cab ride for a few bucks to any of the other hotels restaurants. Two to try are Kyaputi at the St Regis (not cheap but really nice) and the new huge hotel the Mulia which has an awesome buffet. At USD35 per person it is good value.

Getting back to the Laguna, they have a great gym looking out at one of the pools through a waterfall and brand new and well appointed spa which for a hotel was reasonably priced with all the latest techniques and equipment. Their product range is Babor

They have a few bars, one on the beach and aside from laying on a lounge chair on the beach or by one of the pool, they have many Bales (gazebos) you can hire on a daily basis to lay near the beach or the pool in total comfort. Mind you you need to have a love affair with squirrels to enjoy a Bale. The Bali squirrels which I thought were so cute and tiny but which my wife was convinced were about to carry her off, will sit with you hoping for a bit of food which they will happily take from your hand. Fun for the kids.

I think you have to be really fussy to not love the Laguna. For me it has everything you need in Nusa Dua holiday for couples or families.

Final hints. Their Villas are not on the beach but a few minutes walk. Mind youy we stayed ion a 2 bedroom villa with our daughters and with the large private pool they were really stunning. Overkill is the best term. They will get you in a cart for the beach if you phone the butler.

The pool view rooms are the best value. Those on the ground floor can access the pool via their own balcony. Happy holidays :)

This was my wife and I first trip to Bali and we were a little anxious. We have stayed in world class resorts in many parts of the world and I think that the laguna is up there. The resort is pristine and well maintained. The executive suite we stayed in was reasonably priced and exceeded our expectations. The food and service of the staff was also excellent and could not be faulted. If I were to complain about anything it would probably be to change the menu at the pool bar more regularly as after 10 days we were getting sick of the same choices for lunch however this really was not an issue. My wife and I have stayed in Thailand in 5 start resorts for the past 3 vacations. I can definitley say that I will not be going back to Thailand and will be back at the Laguna as soon as possible. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: The executive suites facing the lagoon on either 2nd or 3rd floor..not ground floor

Stayed at the Laguna for the first week of a 2 week trip to Bali, I really wished I had booked for the full 2 weeks the hotel is immaculate, loved the butler service for tea and coffee and the location is fab - walking distance to Bali collection and on the beach. On the downside they don't have a lot for the kids to do and it was only in our last couple of days that we found out that we could have used the kids club in a neighbouring hotel, we also had an issue with the kids bands ($10.00 a day for free drinks and meals if dining with an adult) Lack of communication between the restaurant and reception which was confusing for us and upsetting for our children, once that was sorted out it worked really well. I would go back again but to make it a perfect destination just a few more things for the kids to do ;) Loved it though and would definitely go back again!

Ok, so let's talk about good things about this resort first:
- gardens throughout the resort are amazing.
- beach located right on the resort property.
- lagoon pools throughout the property are nice features.
- close to the main gate of Nusa Dua; thus easy access to the local areas and restaurants.
- gated resort which means "safe - although, Bali is a safe tourist destination."

Ok, now let me explain why I only gave 2 stars:
- not a 5 star resort; the property is so outdated. The rooms/buildings need renovation! Big time.
- so over priced for what it actually is; I should have researched a bit more. All the 5 star reviews below - not sure if they ever been to true 5 star resorts before. This's more like 4 star LOCAL brand resort.
- shoes (over 150CAD worth) were stolen; it was in our room. And who has access? Well the staff. The duty manager took over an hr to respond after our initial report. Not so impressed. Move on. It's just shoes, but stealing a guest's item in a 5 star resort? Well, it really does represent the 5 star.
- the food SO overpriced; Period. We did not eat a single meal here.
- no coffee or tea in the room; they implemented the Butler service. So all u have to do is to call the butler service and order coffee every morning. Tips? Well even tho, it is included in your room charge, butlers do require tips very quietly. The silent language. Not very pleasant to do this every day.

Nonetheless, we are having a good time here (currently staying here). I am just really disappointed that this resort was rated as 5 star. Which isn't.

FYI, I am an Active travel industry professional in Canada. To trust my review or not, it is all up to you. Good luck.

We'd been here 14 years ago with all good memory left behind, and as I checked in again few days ago, I was quite surprised with all the unexpected things around. First, I don't think the hotel represent the 'luxury' things anymore, comparing with other luxury collection hotels of Starwood in other places I'd been. Check in process took about 20 minutes, which it should be faster. Old staffs, not so welcoming with their genuine smile as it should be, old furnished & small rooms with mattress should be changed as it's not so comfortable anymore. And what made me surprise; no kettle in the room! As a 5* hotel and luxury collection, I think kettle is a must in the room. Food quality is also worse and overpriced, comparing with 14 years ago.
But, once you get out of the room, and enjoy the pool and the beach, you will soon forget about all these things, as the beach location is great, with the beautiful view over the Nusa Lembongan Island across Bali. Clean pool and beach, but, it was quite annoying you have to pay surcharge for the cabanas. I also love the lush garden with chipmunks and birds on the trees, things they've kept over years.
It's a pity that they can not keep the standard in such good property.

Room Tip: Choose higher floor facing the main pool, not the one facing the other laguna, as it also closed fro...

Dear cclombok,

Warmest wishes from The Laguna Resort & Spa!

Thank you for your constructive feedback since it allows us to look into the areas where we have failed to meet your expectation and we have well noted all your concerns for our review and improvement.

In regards with the electric kettle, we are aiming to provide a personalized service by our Butlers hence coffee and tea service is provided on complimentary upon request for 24 hours. I am very sorry if this service was not properly explained to you along your stay.

Our F&B pricing is in line with surrounding five star establishments and your feedback regarding the quality of our food has been shared to F&B team for their improvement.

Thank you for kind feedback regarding our pools, beach, and garden and we do hope that your concerns will not prevent you from coming back to The Laguna Resort & Spa in the near future,

Sincerely yours

The beach location is great, very lively and clean. The pool is quite large and runs throughout the property. The butler service is a nice touch. The food is overpriced and there is not too much variety (especially for vegetarians!). It was annoying that everything that had a surcharge (water sports, cabanas) despite having spent so much to stay there.

My husband, best friend and I have just returned from this beautiful hotel in Nusa Dua. It is exactly what we wanted and it delivered! The hotel is gorgeous and so well maintained. The food was exquisite. It is very easy to get out and about in Bali from this hotel.
We cannot recommend it highly enough - wish we were back there now!

Room Tip: we had laguna view room which was superb
