“A good spot for carefree travelers”
Reviewed October 2, 2011

Right in the middle of the action yet removed from the night time noise. It is not a luxury hotel but it is also not trying to be. Just a moments walk from Kuta Beach. We stayed in the new superior room. It was very spacious and had a lot of storage. All new furniture excluding the toilet. There were not a lot of extras provided (hair dryer, face towels or lotion) but it was a good value for the money at around $90USD/night. We only stayed one night but found this place pretty convenient. One downside is that we felt the floor could have used a good clean. Overall I would recommend it.

We have been travelling to Bali for many years and walked past Satriya without knowing what it was. After having enough of the Bounty as we are over 25 we decided to stay at Satriya. Never looked back and we have been three times and will be back in 2012. The staff are just like family and everytime we have stayed we have had mixed couples, families from many countries. One has to be impressed when the staff know so many languages. This year we stayed in a renovated room and it was great. The restuarant had been renovated as well. Prices on the menu are as is and there is no + +. The food is great and I have had everything on the menu. You are 5 minutes from the beach and can walk everywhere in Kuta. Great pool and gardens. You get great laundry service, room service. Picked up and taken to teh airport in comfy new cars. The service is awesome. We came back to our room and the staff who cleaned our room made up the towels for us as you can see in the pictures. The staff make you feel special and I know I feel special having met such loving caring people.
I don't really want to write this as I am telling others about the best kept secret in Kuta for people in their 30's upwards. Can't wait to be back in 2012.

if you don't get the newly renovated rooms-DONT STAY THERE!
Lots of cheaper hotels for half the price on Poppies 1&2.
The pool area is nice though!

Very nice hotel in a garden setting with a nice pool and very pleasant rooms. Great location handy to the beach. Breakfast was OK with great juices and fruit but cooked options were not wide.
Stay was spoilt by a very loud small group of very overweight Australians who drank and smoked all day and showed no respect for other guests with their behaviour and bad language.
Spoke to other guests who had stayed there before (including other Australians who were embarassed by their fellow citizens' behaviour) and said they had never had this problem at this hotel before.
If this group had not been there I would have rated this hotel higher

Having travelled to Bali many times since the early 80s, my wife and I have stayed at many Hotels and Cottages in the Kuta area. The location of the Satriya Hotel is perfect as it is central to everything you need. The Hotel Restaurant "Ninety Degrees" has a good choice of western food together with traditional Indonesian favourites. You will find many places to eat within a short walk in any direction. The Hotel is a Gem! As so many of the traditional Bali style Hotels are being replaced by more western style Hotels with western finishing’s. The pool is well maintained and the gardens are manicured on a daily basis. The Deluxe rooms are perfect and the staff friendly, happy and efficient. Our 11 day stay at the Satriya was perfect and we are returning on the 1st of October, 11 weeks between stays must give a good indication of how impressed we were with Satriya and its staff. For the odd negative review of this Hotel I can only think that these people would not be happy with any level of accommodation they would always find fault. We loved Satriya !

Stayed for 3 nights for some shopping in Kuta. As mentioned before Satriya cottages is in an excellent location, close to the beach, shopping, restaurants and convenience stores. The grounds are nice and the pool was great with a shallow area which our kids loved. The only problem with the pool was that they regularly ran out of pool towels once our family of 4 had to share 1 towel as were told there were no more coming! Our room was large and there was plenty of room for a babycot and an extra bed. The room definately needs renovation and the bathroom definately didn't smell the best. We did have the occasional mosquito though we bought some fly spray at the shops for $2 which seemed to solve the problem and the babycot had a mosquito net. We were given a room on the first floor which was a bit inconvenient as there is no lift and we were pushing 2 prams. Breakfast was fine and they did have a baby chair which was great. Overall Satriya was what we expected as we were looking for a cheap central place to stay for a few days. Would definately reconsider staying here if they decide to paint the rooms.

Our first time at Satriya Cottages for 3 nights on a recommendation from a work collegue, we normally don't stay in Kuta. At check-in there was a minor dispute with the reception staff, they wanted us to pay more for our room than I had negotiated via email earlier in 2011, a difference of Au$30 a night. Luckily I had a copy of the email and showed the lady the quoted rate. We refused to pay any more than the agreed price and that was the end of the matter. We paid 600,000 rp (Au$70) per night and that was all it was worth.

We were generally impressed with the gardens, a little oasis in busy Poppies 2. Situated only a 5 minute walk to the beach with a few shops in between. While our room was spacious and clean we were disappointed in the location, we were in the far back corner of the hotel with no verandah, may be this was payback for not paying the extra room rate we were asked for? We didn't bother requesting a room change as were there only 3 nights. The bathroom had an strong odour of sewerage when water or toilet was running in the rooms above us, it was dark and full of mosquitos. Luckily I had brought mozzie zappers from home and had it going 24hrs a day next to the beds. The mattresses were lumpy and not comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet style which was only average at best, my husband hated it, describing some guests "like pigs at a trough" when it was busy.

The pool was nice but didn't have enough shade, most of the sunbeds were taken early in the morning, they continually ran out of pool towels. There was a number of guests who were obviously regulars and treated the pool area as if it was their own backyard, I object to BB guns being shot off around the pool, bad language and not being able to get in and out of the pool because of the drunks at the bar. Most of the staff could be described as polite but not friendly, not too many smiles at this hotel.

We had one meal at the 90 degree cafe at the front of the hotel, I had satay and my partner had a burger, it was okay. We had a few drinks at the bar in the evenings and enjoyed the music and dancing, good fun.

If you are over 25 (or just don't like being harrassed by drunken yobs, pushed and shoved) I would avoid walking in Poppies 2 at night, it is out of control.
