We had an awesome stay at the Niche in a superior room. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was simple but good, the pool and bar were excellent. We were within easy walking distance of anywhere in Legian/Kuta. Very quiet, could not hear the street or clubs. Had wifi in the room and movie channels. it was very clean and the service was fantastic. We couldn't fault it, will definitely stay there again in future. Maybe not the best for young families, but great for couples and those who want a quieter place to retreat to.

Sorry this is a long review but wanted to cover everything l thought to be helpful.
Hubby and l stayed here in March/April 2014 after a recommendation from a work friend so l checked out Trip advisor and the pics. I now wish l took photos as l think some of these are old photos. Neither of our rooms looked as small as most on the professional pictures and our hand basin was in our room and not the bathroom. Must say l preferred it in the room as then l could do my makeup without the mirror fogging and hubby could shave without the mirror fogging coz the other of us was using the shower. And no need to wait while someone in the toilet either. We were both very pleased with everything about The Niche Bali hotel.
We actually had 2 stays as we travelled to Yogyakarta on Java for a couple of days then returned. The Niche kept our large suitcases in storage for us during our days away without any hassle so we could just take hand luggage with us.
I was a bit worried when our transport was driving down the lane on arrival but when we got to the end my worries quickly vanished on seeing The Niche Bali - they say first impressions count and they do.
We were greeted by a friendly security man with a big friendly, welcoming smile and an eagerness to assist with our luggage and friendly staff. All the staff were always so friendly, always a smile and a hello. They were all wonderful and keen to please.
Both our rooms were on ground level - the first next to the kitchen and dining area- room 133 and the last was in room 101 which was at the entrance to the hotel and directly in front of the dining area also.
Both rooms were the same, both spacious with a really comfortable bed, bedside drawers, a desk, TV, a safe and a bar fridge complete with drinks and snacks, a jug with tea and coffee and bottled water. There was plenty of hanging space and room for suitcases to be stowed or left out of the way with easy access if only there for a day or 2, a hand basin and above it a large mirror at the farther end of the room. The bathroom had a large thick frosted glass door into a large ensuite with the toilet and a large shower recess which had great water pressure. Shampoo/conditioner, soap and body lotion was supplied along with a hand towel, bath towel and face cloth each. There were heavy drapes on the windows which blocked out all light if you wished and underneath lighter curtains so privacy was not a problem when the drapes were open. The aircon was quiet and could be set to a much more comfortable temp for us unlike some hotels we have stayed in and l loved that it was not blowing air onto the bed as l always end up with a cough after a couple of nights.
There was very little noise heard from the restaurant/dining area right outside the door of our rooms or the kitchen next door. This may have been because there was not a lot of guests present when we were there, l don't know but even at breakfast time l was not woken by people talking or trays and dishes clanging and when awake l didnt notice talking, etc outside. The restaurant had nice meals, and were served promptly. Breakfast was served from 7am - Eggs were cooked to order. Toast your own bread selection, cereals, yoghurts and a bain-marie with a variety of other hot foods. Also a couple of juices are provided along with hot tea and very nice coffee.
The NIche has a large pool which is open from 8am - 10pm only. There are comfortable padded lounges around 3 sides of the pool and the restaurant lines the 4th side. There is also a sunken bar at the pool with seating in the pool water. Bar and food service is available at the poolside also and music playing at a reasonable volume that you can still have a normal conversation with others there. Pool towels are supplied for use on the premises only. The water is clean and clear and felt a comfortable tepid-warm temperature during our whole visit. There is a table with 2 seats outside every room for patrons to sit and relax or have a cigarette (no smoking in rooms) if they don't wish to sit in foyer area, at poolside, or at restaurant tables.
They have a massage service in one of the rooms in the back corner. Hubby had a full body massage and l hot the Hot stones massage. Hot stones massage was about 1.5hrs long and was the best, most relaxing yet still therapeutic massage l had the whole trip. The lady there (in her late 40's roughly) certainly knew exactly what she was doing and how to do it properly. It was well worth the extra 20,000rp they charge (compared to outside spa places) - you get an extra 30 minutes and the better quality of massage. I highly recommend everyone experiences at least one hot stone massage from here, you won't be disappointed. This service is open only from 9am to 8pm so we only got to use it once unfortunately as we usually returned from our days outings after 8pm. We went to a couple of massage places on Jl Legion at the entrance to the hotel late in the evenings. These places weren't too bad but l found at the place about 3 doors down on the right leaving the lane the young girls tended to dig their fingers into my arm and calf muscles and dragged them as if trying to do a reconstruction job rather than actually massage them leaving me with extremely bruised and sore arms. She also spent more time massaging my arms than she did on anywhere else when I had the full body massage, the next time l had a hot stones massage which was better though. My hubby had a reflexology massage done once and he was very happy with and a full body which he was happy with too. At the Spa place directly across the road from the lane to the hotel l had a hot stones massage and hubby had the full body. I preferred this massage out of the 2 places outside the hotel as she massaged, she didn't dig her fingers in so much. Hubby had a full body massage which he said was about the same as over the road however he preferred the full body massages out the hotel compared to the one he had at the hotel. As everybody has their own opinions and preferences then you'd have to decide which you like best for yourself.
The hotel itself is in a great position in Kuta if you want to be right in the middle of it. Its a 3 minutes walk to the Bali bombing memorial and lots of restaurants and clubs and shops which l thought were rather expensive for Bali even though you can haggle. Kuta is very over-priced, it had a reputation for being cheap but they now know the value of the dollar and it won't be long before the tourists will go elsewhere to shop because the sellers are getting greedy and overcharging so much, especially on the main drag and some of the shopping centres are just as bad. If you want to shop then don't do it in Kuta that's for sure, go to places like Krisna and Matahari and Ramayana or better still spend a couple of days in Yogyakarta but be warned that less people speak English in Java however we managed fine. Jogja have a great store called Mirota Batik which is worth the flight over - (see review).
I would like to stress how QUIET The Niche Bali hotel was considering its position. During the day when we were there the only outside noise we heard was a helicopter on 2 occasions and there was only one evening we heard a slight thump, thump from a nightclub nearby (or a neighbour) and even that wasn't for long. I couldn't believe how the noise of the area did not travel into the tranquillity of the hotel courtyard or the rooms.
At the hotel door there are always drivers available with air conditioned vans in good condition if you wish to hire them. They will take you to wherever you want to go, wait for you, take you back, whatever you want. Just make sure you always haggle the price because they always overcharge the tourist (like everywhere else in Bali). The drivers are there practically 24 hours a day l think, they usually sat facing down the lane and most would greet us with a wave or a hello every time we entered or left the hotel. At first it felt eerie with them watching us come and go but then it was like having extra security watching out for us down the lane, reassuring.
Laundry- the hotel has a laundry service they send out to but it charges per item, not by weight. (Laundry is always cheaper if charged by weight.) The service the hotel uses does a wonderful job and the clothes come back looking and smelling great but it took 2 full days to get them back although I put it in before 7am. It had to be in by 9am but didn't come back until the evening of the next day. There is however, a small, one woman laundry business in the lane to the hotel entrance - Vero laundry. Vero is a friendly, charming young widow whose life is this business and she takes real pride in providing the best service to her customers. She charges per kg - it cost us 37,500Rp for 2.5kg on our last day in Bali l dropped the laundry off about 09.30am and had it back before 4pm the same day all clean, folded and wrapped and smelling just fantastic, ready to go straight into the suitcase and zip it up for our flight home. We used Vero a couple of times, the first time was our second stay l delivered a large load about 11am or later, she offered to have it ready that evening but l said no need, we were going to be out late anyway so wouldn't collect until next day. As we walked down the lane to the hotel that night Vero spotted us and called "your laundry's ready" and we picked it up then. She will give you a time it will be ready to collect and it is always ready.

MONEY CHANGER - The hotel will change money at a reasonable rate but we often found they had run out. DO NOT USE the money changer in the lane to the hotel, the hotel clerk suggested to use one up road further from the hotel which was good rates, hubby used and was happy with it - just ask the clerk where's best to go.

I think l've covered everything now. Overall, l highly recommend this hotel to all types of travellers. You could travel here alone or in a group and l still think you'd enjoy your stay here. The staff are just marvellous.

Only stayed for 6 days, but the hotel met all my expectations for a budget hotel. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. One minor issue was the water pressure of the shower was very low,and took an eternity to heat up! The pool was very clean, and the swim up bar was nice and convenient.Nothing better than drinking a cold bintang while your chilling out in the pool!It is also well situated down an alleyway, just off the main Legian street,so not far to get to all the local nightlife.Very good value for money hotel, for sure.

Great hotel with extraordinary staff. Hotel is located in the middle of kits near the vendors and all of the nightlife. It is far enough off the strip to be relaxing and close enough to anything with a 5 minute walk

Spent 2 weeks at the Niche over xmas and new year and we loved every minute of the time.
Had a great room on the ground floor easy access to the pool. The staff where so friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. A group of young boys arrived and where extremely noisy on their first night the next day the manager ( Made) was straight on to them he takes no nonsense from any one. One very special staff member stood out her name was Sri her attitude and her smile was beyond reproach.
the only downside to this hotel is the power points there is only one behind the fridge making it hard for shaving, using hair dryer , charging phones etc.
Would stay again for sure

I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel. The staff very lovely and the rooms very clean. On the down size don't stay at this hotel during schoolies - the behaviour of our youth in Bali is an embarassment to Australians. They behaved like animals running around screaming, throwing drinks in the pool and ashing their cigarettes in the water. I still do not understand what would possess a parent to allow an under age child to go to a country where they ride a bike without helmets can obtain any drug that they wish. I saw so many young people come off motor bikes and injure themselves. Girls so drunk that they didnt even know who they were hanging off. The boys were appalling with their language and wanting to punch on after a few beers. I keep reading about parents writing about warnings about what happened to their child - here's a novel idea don't send them if you are that concerned.........

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms by the pool are lovely.
