What can I say about the Barong...the positives- in a great spot, central to everything, the pools & grounds were great and the staff that we came into contact with were friendly. The breakfast was quite ok and we had no problems with anything being stolen but then we did leave our stuff locked up in safety boxes provided in reception. The air conditioner was excellent and great to come into the room and cool down after much jalan jalan.
It is such a shame that the rooms have been allowed to get so run down and grotty, nothing that a good scrubbing and bleach could not fix..this goes for the towels and bedding linen too..all of it was grey. After the first night I was horrified to pull the doona right back to find blood stains on the sheets...Arrhhhh The staff only seem to do a surface clean and the shower and toilet area grouting is disgusting.
The mattress in our room was as hard as rock and seeings we were staying 11 nights I asked for it to be replaced...3 times...each time I was told that it would but realised in the end I was only being given lip service and gave up. Tv reception is crap...sometimes it would have been great to have come home from a busy day shopping and relax to watch something...they did have an inhouse movie playing most times but using a bad pirated dvd bought from the local dvd shop that usually stopped and started etc..they have satelite tv showing in the restaurant so unsure of why that could not be pumped through to the rooms too.
I just loved the location of this hotel though and even in saying all the negatives I would have considered about staying here again until I saw the mould running up the walls around the head area of our bed and the thick dust that I had been breathing in that was around the edges of the bed base that the mattress sat in.
One patron who visits the Barong a lot and stays for a month at a time said that he goes and buys bleach from a mini mart and pays staff extra to go into his room and clean it for him. Something you may like to consider doing if you choose to stay here...Apparently the current owners are fairly new so maybe there is hope for the Barong yet.

Room Tip: Take a bottle of bleach with you :)

Stayed here with 2 friends for 2 nights in early June. While we didn't like Kuta, we loved our hotel. It's perfect for young people. Although we were on a budget, we were able to experience a bit of luxury. The rooms are nothing to write home about, but clean and safe, and the pool and gardens are beautiful. The food was really good and well priced also. I would definitely recommend Barong as a place for people in their young 20s visiting Kuta.

Stayed here from 20th April to 29th April 2012. Found the grounds to be very well looked after. The staff were more than helpful and for the price you pay per night the rooms are fine. Nothing flash just your basic hotel room. Breakfast was ok not much of a selection like most buffet breakfasts in bali mainly cater for asians which is fine. Selection of noodles, rice, crumbed fish, crumbed chicken and a egg station. Didnt do bacon the whole time we were there. Found security to be ok left togs towels and coolers on balcony the whole time and nothing was touched. Pool bars are good with the front one being the 24hr one. Has a dj playing some afternoons. Live band sat night. Overall hotel is in a top notch location and for what you pay it is not a bad place to stay.Would recommend if with a family stay in the back section of hotel.

Myself and 2 friends stayed at the hotel, the 2nd day we were there(which happened to be my birthday)there was a hole punched through our door while we were out my padlocked bag was cut open all our money stolen $9000 Australian 2 iPhones all our ATM(debit MasterCard)was also used to the value of $352 aus the staff offered no help except to let us use the hotel phone which at 1st they tried to charge us 150,000 rph to use and a free hotel transfer to the airport which our travel agent arranged anyhow, the rooms are absolutely terrible and small uncompfortable beds the security let any1 just walk into the hotel tourist or not,if you have made plans to or are thinking about staying here change your plans and stay somewhere else,if you want to feel what its like to be stuck in a 3rd world country without any money or a way home stay here outerwise save your money and holiday stay at a proper resort any1 who says this place is good on a review I beg you do not listen to them I've seen some bad reviews on this place and thought "that would never happen to me"but trust me it can and will don't ever stay or recommended this place to anyone!!!!!!

This hotel is so bad I'm surprised the cockroaches even stay in the rooms.

We stayed here last year with a few other couples and we all agreed it was one of the worst decisions we ever made. So bad infact we left half way through our paid in full stay and found a better hotel.

Each one of our rooms smelt like sewerage. 2 rooms had cockroaches. All the rooms had dirty stained linen. We were all robbed of loose money from our short pockets. One couple had some
Belonging also stolen. Street hawkers come into the hotel. Staff are extremely rude and are constantly trying to rip you off. Especially the people behind the counter trying to argue the rooms had not been paid for.
Drinks are way over priced at bar. Even kudetA is cheaper. We gave up on breakfast after the second day.

Overall can not think of one good reason to stay here. If anything this review is also an understatement of how bad the barong really is!

If you like to wait 45min for a towel for you shower its the place to be. You can never get a pool towel and the place was only half full when we were there last week. When i asked them about the towls they said they had none what a joke. The rooms smell the shower was part blocked and full of mould the mattress was about 20 years old but they did change it when asked. Dont use the laundry service cause they lie to you about what time it is due back and comes back half its size. We had $500 stolen from my locked suitcase the lock was picked or they have used the key from my bum bag while at breakfast or in the pool. Our air con didnt work properly. The rooms are very dark and what is the point of having tv when its all indonesian tv. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY TO STAY AT THE BARONG HOTEL.
