what can i say. Had heard some good things about this hotel so a group of us decided to give it ago, bad mistake. Out of the 5 of us 2 of us where visiting bali for the first time. Initial check in and the place seemed ok, usual bali hotel staff seemed nice enough. The first issue was you are basically living next to a 24hr construction site, with banging etc going all day and night. Then nothing better then the cleaners on the door bell at the crack of dawn to wake you to ask if you want your bed made, nice. The best part for us was breakfast. We did not have this included in our stay so were informed that it would cost 100,000 each for breakfast. We gave this ago twice, food was ok but we found better value elsewhere. After paying for breakfast in the resturant you can imagine our amazement when on check out we where hit with a bill for our breakfast again, we explained we had already paid for this in the resturant to which management basically said too bad, you have to pay again, which we did. The resturant is nice, food was ok but dont expect any conversation over dinner because the DJ playing his music like its a nite club wont allow that. Pool bar is handy, handy at empting your wallet of its contents. Compared with the other places i have stayed in bali, the istama rama really has nothing going for it, there is plenty of better value over there.

Room Tip: go next door.

Stayed for three days in October 2011...location was great but only one accident can make our vacation totally ruined...one night when we come back from our trip to take a rest in the hotel..we found that a cup of noodle that not belong to us at the television desk and one thing that make us more disappointed that bread which is we bought one day before and we put next to the television before we go to sight seeing was gone also the breakfast and welcome drink voucher was gone too(before we go to sight seeing in the morning we ask to housekeeping to clean our room)...we told was what happen to the manager on duty and he told us to investigate this matter...so be ware off your stuff if you stay in this hotel...

I loved this hotel, first time in Bali and we would definatly stay again. The only negative encounter was at the front desk and how long it took to check out, they were busy and only had one staff member working. We also booked a room with a king bed but was given 2x singles. Oh well. It was still a great hotel.

Stayed for ten days in September and couldn't fault anything. Breakfast was gorgeous and they had exceptional staff. Our ground room had everything you needed. The bed was comfortable and the shower took seconds to heat up which was a concern after reading previous reviews. The location was fantastic but the one way street was an issue as it took two minutes to get to legian and 35 mins to get back and only if traffic was not bad. The pool was beautiful and had no faults at all. We made good use of the pool bar which was pricey but cheaper than other hotels around which we discovered. Would highly recommend using the photographer as we got some beautiful photos which were pretty cheap. Wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely come again. Thank you for a wonderful holiday grand istana Rama.

great location opposite Kuta beach, short walk to poppies lane for shopping and restaurants, close to Kuta main shopping area. Hotel rooms bit old but comfortable. rooms have balcony and air conditioner, clean, restaurant good, staff friendly. Good place value for money. Swimming pool refurbished in March 2011

Room Tip: hotel does not have a lift and stairs are a bit steep.
