Owner description: If you're looking for willy wonka, this isn't the chocolate factory for you. If you want to see and taste every step in the production of cacao, coconut sugar/nectar products and how Big Tree Farms company works, this is the place to do it.

My 3 kids and I went to Big Tree Farms Chocolate Factory Tour after hearing a recommendation from a local. We had bought several of Big Tree Farms products at Bali Buda prior to the tour and had really liked all of their products. It was interesting to see their facility, learn about their company and buy sample product. Big Tree Farm is an amazing company with a very cool story behind it. The architecture of the factory is impressive as well as it is entirely built of bamboo. Definitely worth the visit if you get a chance.

We chose to visit the chocolate factory because it was recomended in out Lonely planet guidebook but we were disappointed. Tha baboo building is really beautiful from the outside and at the loft where you can buy the company's products. Otherwise it Is nothing special especially for the entrance fee of 50 000Rp. The machines are old (some from the 1920s) and are nothing like the fountains of chocolate that we have imagined. At the end of the tour each of us got to try two pieces of their chocolate (one with seasalt and one with palm sugar). We could also try raw cocoa beans, chocolate drink and palm sugar which are availible for purchase.
