“short stay in kuta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

Stayed for a few days following a long business trip to Asia. This place was fantastic - very quiet and relaxing but just a short walk from the main activity of the area. About 10 minute walk to the beach. Breakfast and dinner in Poppies restaurant was great. Pool area is really nice. Cottages have everything you need. Staff were very friendly. Airport pick up and return was very good.

we first stayed in Poppies 16 years ago and had a memorable stay. The open bathroom with it's clever use of volcanic stones as it's featured wall construction everywhere, its Baliness touch every nooks were such an beautiful feast to our stay! Now so many years on we went back to Poppies the place still stay as mystical! Excellent service, food, lush tropical garden, an oasis in the middle of bustling Kuta. A must stay for anyone visiting Bali at least once. With real estate prices soaring in the area I am concerned now if Poppies may one day give way to higher density!

Room Tip: We have stayed in cottages 17 & 25 before and both equally pleasant

We visit this place always when in Bali! It simple serves the best Indonesian rijsttafel in town
( rijsttafel is a selection of lots of small Indonesian dishes)

They also serve good cocktails and that piña colada looks absolutely insane!

The setting is very nice, very green, cosy and good for romantic dinner. Nothing like the craziness of kuta beach.

Not too miss when in Bali. They also have their own cottages, heard that's also pretty good.

I first went to Poppies with my parents when I was a toddler; simply put over the years thereafter it never disappointed. I'll admit I have an emotional attachment to this place so that might slant my review but still, in the heart of Kuta, with gorgeous bungalows, an amazing rock and flora pool, exquisite rooms and service and, last but not least, a restful, secluded environment! Add smells, flowers and convenience and in my books that's enough said: a true reference to keep in mind!

No wonder this hotel has so many excellent reviews. I can't fault Poppies at all. My husband and i spent 8 wonderful nights here and we enjoyed every minute of it.Poppies is in a excellant location in the heart of Kuta and within easy walking distance to may good restaraunts, shops and the beach. The cottage we had (26) was lovely, it was kept spotlessly clean was a great size. I slept very well and never heard any noise. The pool is lovely with plenty of sun loungers, most of the time there wasn't many people in it.
What makes Poppies so special is it's wonderful staff, they truly are the nicest people we have met on our trips to Bali. They always said hello and made us feel very welcome.
A special hello to Rico we enjoyed chatting with you,
We always like to try different hotels on each trip to Bali but I will definately be back to Poppies.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great!

While we were planning our first trip to Bali, my wife and I decided that we were not going to stay in a multi-story, concrete hotel. We found Poppies on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try (there were also a few other interesting places but we needed a place that was near Kuta beach). They were also offering a good price for a 3D/2N package that included roundtrip transfers, a free 1-hour massage and a free dinner.

Our transfer was waiting for us when we arrived so that was a good sign especially after reading about a few horror stories of airport-transfers-gone-bad. I must admit that I started to get worried on the way there because we were going through really small alleys - at one point, right before we entered the resort, our driver had to fold the side mirrors of the vehicle.

Once we got into the resort though, it did not disappoint. It was a really like a secret garden tucked among the sidewalk vendors, the crazy motorcycle drivers and the tourist vibe of Kuta. The cottage was quite spacious as it had a nice terrace where you could have coffee as well as a little nook inside the room where you could sit and lounge around. The room was a bit stuffy when we arrived so we had to keep the ceiling fan running for a while. Maybe the only other thing is that it's difficult to spend a lot of time in the terrace because there were quite a number of mosquitoes. The staff, who were quite helpful during our entire stay, provided a mosquito coil but I didn't want to risk being bitten by daytime mosquitoes.

Overall, Poppies is a great place to stay in for people who want to enjoy Kuta but who want to have an escape from the touristy feel of the place. Just be prepared to walk a bit (and dodge motorcycles) to get to the beach or to Legian Road.

We only had one night at Poppies - a stopover between the airport and catching the boat to Lombok. We were totally delighted with our cottage and wish we could have stayed longer. Once you are behind the wall of the compound you would have no idea you are in the middle of KUTA - it's so quiet and so pretty.

We were pleasantly surprised with a pot if hot tea and some bananas on our balcony when we got up in the morning. A lovely touch.

We will definitely stay at Poppies again.
