“We Loved it so much we've booked for next year”
Reviewed July 27, 2011

This was my first trip back to Bali after 17 yrs, so we were little apprehensive about the hotel we had chosen. We shouldn't have been as it was brilliant, we stayed on the ground floor in the supposed old wing but had no complaints, big room, free wifi, free transfers (great to see a smiling face in the masses on leaving the airport, with a sign with your name on it) world's biggest bed, flat screen tv, icy cold whisper quiet airconditioning, fridge, complimentary water, cleaned daily, area to sit outside and close to the pool and that's just the room. The staff couldn't be more helpful, be it the cleaners, reception or wait staff, they were there to make you holiday perfect. The pool was refreshing and many hours were spent swimming and lounging. The breakfast was adequate and you never left feeling hungry, be it pancakes, waffles, eggs or fruit and the juices and coffee were great. The restaurant also did other meals, they were great and value for money. Once you left the hotel you entered Poppies 1, with everything within walking distance, be it a surf at the beach, coffee Starbucks, shopping, night clubs etc etc. Given all of the above it wasn't surprising we booked 5 rooms opposite the pool in the new wing for next year, only problem is the 12mth wait.

We stayed at La Walon from the 19th June until the 14th July.
Absolutely loved this place. It is so friendly and the staff are all just amazing.
Had a deluxe room on the ground floor. Have made many friends with all the staff here.
The rooms are cleaned everyday and cannot do enough for you.
Location is excellent and the food was good as well.
Breakfast is basic, however we don't eat a huge breakfast at home anyway.
Thankyou to all of you at La Walon.
We will be back soon.
Marilyn and Rob. Perth.

Kuta is not really Bali and is not a place to stay if you want peace, quiet and a laid back Bali experience. If you're young, want to do little else but shop, lay on the beach and party to the wee hours it is the place for you. Most clubs don't start to pick up until midnight.

One additional thing to factor into your Kuta stay - touts. You can't move 5 feet without being harassed with offers of transport, drugs, viagra, girls etc.

La Walon is in the thick of it. Kuta pretty much grew up around Poppies Lane and you run the gauntlet getting to or from the hotel. It's a two minute stroll to the beach and the sunset Kuta is famous for.

The hotel is built around a center pool. It gets sun most of the day but disappears behind the building by around 3:30

Rooms right on Poppies Lane can be noisy and a couple members of our party changed rooms as a result. Generally the rooms are clean and spacious. The aircon works well. Bathroom amenities are sparse. You're best bring your own shampoo and conditioner.

Our rooms came with breakfast. Very typical of economy hotels. A glass of artificial orange juice. Two pieces of fruit. a piece of toast and eggs with bacon or ham. Tea or coffee. You basically eat it because it comes with the room.

Free wi-fi is offered. It's slow and you have to change your password daily but if you need to send a few emails, it's fine.

All rooms have balconies or a small sitting area outside your door (ground floor units)

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road

Had problems getting confirmation of booking via email.. Promised pick up at airport didnt happen, even after several phonecalls and we found our own way to the hotel. Stayed in old wing. Damp mould on walls and bedbugs. Fridge noisy and barely worked. Cancelled booking after 3 nights and relocated to Persona for the rest of our stay Staff were fantastic and very friendly and I felt sad about letting them down . Pool is nice and clean , but some chipped tiles that can cut you . Secure entrance prevents unwelcome visitors in the complex .We enjoyed the food at the restaurant and ate several meals there. A great place to sit and chill while watching the comings and goings in Poppies.

Room Tip: Ask for the new wing and try to book early

We have just had 12 days staying at the La Walon. First staying in the family suites on 4th floor. OK Set up but ALOT of stairs to get there! And now outside seating area. So shifted down to first floor rooms 301 and 302 staying in the new wing. Great, great, great! So close to pool, lovely rooms and our own area to sit outside. This is the first time we have stayed at the La Walon but found it excellent. All staff very friendly and helpful. Always stopping to talk at anytime of the day. Rooms were always cleaned immaculately. Nice to have water supplied for drinking/brushing teeth etc in the bathrooms. Restaurant was great also. Good variety on menu. Breakfast was good, plenty of food. But can get a bit tedious after 12 days. But no problems with at all. We enjoy staying in Poppies 1. It is so central to many places. And over the past couple of years have got to know a few of the people along the lane. Definitely would stay here again.

Personally, I love La Walon. Have stayed here for the past 3 years of trips for stays of up to a month and have always been happy with the rooms and service. For the price, I think it's great..and the staff are awesome. If you are looking for something simple and cheap, this is a great hotel.

Stayed for a week at La Walon and found the hotel to be very good for the price paid. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Of a night the security staff were always doing patrols and checking people coming in. Will definitely stay again when travelling without the family.
