“Great staff, value for money, brekky, rooms, grounds and atmosphere”
Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

I loved this hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. The staff are lovely. The pool guy Jimmy was awesome, playing ping pong and helping out wherever he could.
Not sure why people complain. Brekky has a choice of eggs any way, noodles, hash browns, toast, pastries, fruit, sausages, tomatoes and other. A combo of these changed daily. Juice watery but who cares. Ask for as much bacon as you want. Bed was very comfy. Air con working perfectly. Room clean, overlooking pool. I have stayed in big expensive hotel on beach and its so big you get lost. KBC you get to know heaps of people. There's a lovely atmosphere and gardens. Central located. Short walk to beach, stadium bar, shopping. I will stay again as do many others. Met ppl going there for 20 years.

Just arrived back from KBC stayed 9 days. Location very good, rooms around back are quiet, but don't get room 264 floods when rains, we got flooded twice only sent boy up with towels to mop up said he'd be back to check but never to be seen again. If you don't like eggs for brekky don't stay there not much else to choose from, mostly only one cereal and two fruits. If you like lying around pool got to get there with towel about 7 o'clock as Jimmy (pool boy) reserves chairs for regulars and you can't get one. Disgusting, people go out for the morning and these chairs are not being used (you're told to get off them by Jimmy). Tommy (manager) was told of this but nothing was done, any other property if the chair is not used within and hour of reserving the towel is taken off. There are better value properties to stay in same area with better breakfast. Overpriced for what you get here

Stayed May 2013 based on the overall reviews by tripadvisor and was frankly disappointed. The staff were oblivious and not very helpful, unless they thought a tip was in the offing. We booked a double room, and arrived at about 1.30pm to find it not ready. When we finally did get into the room it was unclean and in desperate need of refurbishment. There was hair on the bathroom floor and on the bed, stains on the ceiling and walls - and I am talking major stains as though someone had dragged a corpse across the ceiling entrance!

PROS
Cheap price via comparison website
Handy pool and bar
Good central location
Balcony
Gardens within hotel well kept
Bar and swimming pool

CONS
No wifi
Tv signal intermittent
Dirty
Remains of previous occupants
Room falling to bits
Staff disengaged.

Would I stay here again - no not really the are too many better offerings in the immediate vicinity, at the same price.

Hope this helps others looking for accommodation! At least you know which one to avoid.

Hotel is quite old but so full of character and charm, very helpful staff, thanks "Warnie" hehehehe I loved to meet you and you were so kind to me and most helpful during my stay in April/May just past. I was on my own for the week I stayed there, my friend had gone back to Jakarta but I was quite happy at the hotel. It is so close to Matahari and Discovery, can walk easily to both places, I loved it!!!! Room 228 was wonderful and comfortable and clean, very good domestic staff! I will stay here again I am sure!

Room Tip: Villas are better in my opinion and quite good value.

Dayu one restruant is directly across the road and is the cheapest food in Kuta but also very safe to dine in.Also reccomend Sendok,Jensens,RamayaSportsman bar and of course Kuta Beach Club.Mata Hari Department strore,Gloria Jeans are three minutes away.Maccasalso.Buy your wate3r and knicknacks at the grocery section of Mata Hari.Selamat Jalan.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights and we quite liked it. The staff at reception were good, nice and polite. The surly drinks guy at the pool bar made us laugh more than be annoyed. The room was nice for the price and exited right into the pool area which we liked as we could have a dip after dark (the rules state that the pool closes at 8pm but between you and me they told us that is in case of unruly young persons making a racket, and if quiet and respectful of others which of course we were we could swim late if we wanted to). The gardens were lovely, the place was restful and other patrons were relaxed and friendly.

My only real issue was the breakfast things like meats or sausages, and the Indonesian style meals were not so great either, which was a bit dismal, over cooked and really stale, watered down juice too and so I survived on the pancakes or fried bananas and syrup, had eggs and toast and cereal which was ok. You have to ask for bacon if you want it, don't eat the sausages!

But this was a smallish thing. We had a nice time, it was romantic yet fun and social, ask for the down stairs poolside units, they are roomier and nicer and the stairs to the top floor are totally treacherous.

On the last day I booked the spa to have my nails done with flowers, they ruined them totally, they looked like a child of two had been at them, I was not very happy at all about that, but it was an experience I guess! The massages were good but overpriced, walk back down the road, same side and use one of the little ones along the road, much friendlier and miles cheaper with better results. On the other side of the road a little way up is a Grecian looking restaurant with terracotta coloured walls, buy the seafood platter for two for about $15 - $20 and fill up, and because this is the top menu item they give you a small show of entertainment just for you! A little dance and costumes and it was amazingly cute! I didn't get Bali belly this time either so that was a plus! These days you can get something from the chemist at home before you leave, take it just before you leave and throughout your stay, it's called Travelan I think and it really worked! It stops bad tummy bugs before they get a hold on you! Take Immodium too (2 packets) though just in case!

For the price this place was quite good, very safe for your valuables behind the reception is a lock up room with locked cabinets to leave your laptop etc while you are out.

Just down the road about 1 minutes walk is the Kuta Art Market, Australian Bali Bombing Memorial, places to eat, etc. (try the pancakes and waffles across the road from the markets). Mr Dolphin tattoo is amazingly good. Clean, very artistic and friendly, he will bargain with you too. Ask me if you need a driver or friendly female guide who will help you bargain, I got stuff for next to nothing when she was with me!
If you want a Bali "designer style" bag, be careful of the edges along the straps, if they are sticky avoid them, the seller might say when you get home they will stop being so sticky but they don't, ruined my dress with rubber which isn't cured properly!

Go see the sights like the Monkey Forest in Ubud and the Butterfly Park is amazing, the Bali Elephant Safari (make sure you look up reviews of the two of them, one is not as good, the good one has a Mammoth skeleton in the foyer). After the Butterfly Park ask to be driven to the place where the expensive silver and gold is made with gems, it's eye popping and so beautiful, worth the price too, pay only for the price of the grams of precious metal with no workmanship money added! Make sure you go down "gold street" and get a bargain there too! On the way ask to stop at Olek Olek for bargain prices cheaper than Kuta. Oh I love Bali! And I have been to this hotel twice now so it is fine for the low price, just be aware and walk around before buying anything, never tell anyone it's your first time, word gets around and everything you buy will be top dollar! Have a ball! Ask me if you need a driver or a guide or helper, I know a fellow who is so trustworthy, I dropped my money in his car and he sent it back to me in an envelope! LOL! Go see the volcano and eat in the place over looking it, everything is so lovely and green!

Warnings, scams like people along the street asking you to open lottery type cards are not genuine, ask for the meter to be turned on in the taxi or don't get in, don't go to places where you pay for sex gentlemen as it is illegal and they may extort money from you before they will allow you to leave or dob you in to the cops while they hold you there! Buy only cold drinks with lids sealed, don't drink the ice unless you ask if it is sterile (but they do lie so just don't do it) and stay away from areas that have fans spraying fine mists of water as that is where those deadly diseases came from last year. Keep your eyes and ears open for followers after you visit the atm, don't get drunk without a sober partner who can guide you. If in trouble or someone has ripped you off, ask to speak to the tourist police, they will often just go get your money back, etc.

Other than that, have a ball! I know the warnings may sound a bit worrying but really, most of it is an adventure and Bali is an amazing place! Don't worry too much, most of that stuff will never happen!

Room Tip: Go to the lower poolside rooms, the stairs up the the upper levels are treacherous, make sure you in...

We have just come home from spending 11 nights staying here. Would recommend to all. Staff very friendly and helpful (as generally everywhere in Bali). Rooms were a little dated and needed a bit of paint and repairs. We stayed in 249 which was not too bad but a bit of paint in a few areas and a cleanup of tiles in bathroom would have been nice. Friends were in 247 which need a bit more of a tidy up, walls in one area need a major paint and bathroom door was in very poor condition as it kept sticking. But other than that our rooms were in a great position near pools. Where we spent a lot of time! Swim up bar, but that was a little pricey. Buffet breakfast was ok to start, then they changed chef and it seemed to lack a lot of the variety we had to start, especially lack of fruit variety. Egg Bar was great and chefs were happy to cook us french toast each morning also! Staff in restaurant were great, especially Warni. She took the time to remember names and great us each day. It was great to havae access to free wifi in lobby area and also free use of computers in Internet room. Aircon in internet room was fantastic! Also aircon in rooms very good. Tommys Tavern Restaurant had a deal going with two for price of one deal if you ordered same meal. Good deal and lovely Bacon salad. We had a free voucher for a 1 hour massage. This was the best massage I have ever had in Bali. Surrounds in spa was also fantastic, so relaxing and peacful and well set out. Kuta Beach Club is very centrally situated, only a few mins walk from Matahari in Kuta Square and about 5 mins to Waterbom, Discovery Mall, and Kuta Beach. Plenty of markets right outside across the lane and only a few mins walk to Jl Legian etc. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms nearly the far end of Pool 247, 249 were in a great area and on ground level and near pool. Qu...
