“Beautiful lobby and pool, average room”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

I feel as though the photo of the pool suckered me in...the lobby looks highly impressive as you first arrive. A gorgeous leafy Balinese garden with a zen pond, water features and statues. Its beautiful.

But our room was less than impressive, it was rather small which isnt so bad, we werent planning to spend much time in the room as we wanted to explore Bali. The room was also very dark, not much natural light at all. The worst part was that one of the drains in the bathroom really stank, and so the room just smelled like a sewer drain as a result. It really needed a good clean out with bleach or some draino, it just stank.

Additionally, the bathroom was tiny and felt very cramped. Old amenities too, it appeared clean as in wiped down but due to how old it was it just felt a bit dirty and used. I also am not a fan of shower/bathtub combos, i will never have a bath in a shower, but I understand they needed to save space as it is a very small bathroom.

We had the balcony door open to try air the room out, and noticed we needed to have the door and blinds open anyway to allow enough natural light in to see.

The infinity pool on the roof top was amazing, the photos of it convinced me to book this hotel in the first place...might pay a bit more attention to the room next time. The view over looks Kuta Beach and we did spend an enjoyable afternoon and early evening up there before heading down to the beach for sunset.

Overall, we only spent one night here. We spent 4 nights previously at another hotel, but they didnt availability for the full 5 nights, hence our 1 night stay here (our last night of the trip, too). It was OK for 1 night, but I wouldnt have put up with the horrible smell any longer than that.

I dont think I would return here... or at the very least id ask for a better room with a view of the lobby garden but it was OK as a cheap option in Kuta, the location was excellent, very close to Jl Legian and Poppies Lane. Next door to Hard Rock Cafe/Hotel. Wasnt the best stay but as I said, it was OK for 1 night and if you plan on spending most of your time out of the room, exploring, having fun etc.

Went to Bali with my gf and stayed in Mercure Kuta Bali.. We wanted to stay in Pullman Legian, however, there weren't any ocean view facing rooms and so we settled for Mercure Kuta. For SGD149 and a four star property, we were expecting at least a decent room. However, sad to say, the property is quite old and worn out. We were given a room on the fourth floor where the ocean view rooms are located. The room is small.. The floor tiles are old and dirty. Even the walls are quite dirty. And the tap of our bathroom was leaking! I think they seriously need some refurbishment for the property!

As for the breakfast spread, there is nothing to shout about either. Our only comfort was the egg station whereby the cooks were pretty good. I guess the only advantage of Mercure Kuta is their location as they are located strategically near the Hard Rock Hotel, Discovery Mall, Matahari Square and other malls nearby and of course, the beach walk. Food is not a problem at this area as they have many choices of restaurants from Pizza Hut to Italian and Western food. Coffee joints such as Starbucks can also be found here.

Their pool is worth commending as it overlooks out to the Kuta Beach. However, when we went, they were doing some renovation near the pool and it was quite noisy and dirty. However, once the renovation gets over, it should be a better pool to relax in and enjoy the view of the Kuta Beach.

Stayed 7 nights at the Mercure, room was on the third floor. Hotel and room Location fantastic. Pool has amazing views over Kuta beach. Breakfast had lots of variety and some dishes changed daily. Wonder view at breakfast through the bi fold windows over the Beach. Bed comfortable room slightly on the small size but didn't spend huge amount of time there during the day. Booked Mercure again for our next Bali holiday.

If you want a hotel in a central location in Kuta, then the Mecure is the place to be.

We stayed for 5 nights in a ocean view room. To be honest for $150 a night, I expected more. Our room was quite small and the room was quite dated, especially the bathroom. The toilet would not stop flushing and it got very annoying after 5 days. The flatscreen TV was very small and we had limited channels and no in-house movies. Mini bar was very fairly priced though.

We had a small balcony which looked over the ocean, which was great at sunset.
House keeping definitely cuts a few corners, certain parts of the room were very dusty and the bathroom was poorly up kept. House keeping also didn't change our sheets during our stay, which was disappointing. The phone in our room did not have any instructions e.g. how to call reception or in-room dinning.

The pool is beautiful, overlooks the beach. Limited number of sun chairs but this was never a problem. You can get drinks by the pool however they are very expensive, even water. Buffet breakfast catered more for Eastern tourists than Western. Traditional asian meals are mostly served.

Staff working on the front reception were very friendly, however they did not speak English too well.

Room Tip: An ocean view room is a must.

Stayed here for one night before we flew out of Bali, check in was seamless the rooms are small but clean and have everything you need. Service was amazing my husband left our camera in the back of the taxi that dropped us off and they were extremely helpful in tracking it down. good location right on the beach in the middle of Kuta. I would be happy to stay here again.
