“Nice hotel, good location, but need consistent room keeping”
Reviewed July 12, 2010

Stayed there 3 nights during peak season (July 5-8). Booked from a local tavel agent for deluxe, then got upgraded on arrival to premier suite. Suite room is very spacious with 2 TV, so our 2 children got each fave TV show. Room cleanliness is a big concern: a piece of french fries from previous guest was still on the corner of the pantry, stain on 1 of hand towels, are SMALL but IMPORTANT thing for guests.
Breakfast menu is 4-star standard, and the food quality is good (freshness, taste). The ladies on the restaurant were verrrrry friendly, they consider 2 children under 12 as 1 pax. (Most hotels do that, but on other hotels sometimes we got trouble with unfriendly restaurant staff when the 2 children got for breakfast, or they tried to fool us and unfairly charge an extra pax).
Swimming pool is good : the size, the depth (+/- 140 cm), the water quality. We love it !
Location is good, outside is many cafes,mini-marts, internet rental, massage service, laundry, even car rental is nextdoor ! Swimmable beach is 100 meters walk. Mall (Galleria) is 15 minutes walk , airport is 7 minutes drive (Rp 20.000 by taxi) and no traffic jam like one in Legian/ kuta square.

the hotel is good, clean with good service.food is only to say ok as all the food in bali tasted sweet. the kuta beach is on five minutes walk from the hotel.to legian is about 30 minutes to 40 minutes because of the traffic.always take taxi using meters.bluebird taxi.very polite balinese people. full of culture and kept well preserved.clean place overall.tanah lot is fantastic! and the room i stayed was fantastic.but be aware that the hotel staff will lock your mini if you dont give them your credit card number.didnt get to enjoy the nature of bali, because of the tour itenary ,was very tiring.Got sick traveling long hours. if you are looking for good vacation, take a private car to go where you like and not to join tour groups.some places they take for lunch and dinner are terrible.and you got no choice but to eat it.

Imagine when you are happily checked in & taking your room card to you room but once you enter your room then only you found out that THAT''S IS NO HOUSEKEEPING.The used towel was still hanging in the bathroom, did not replenish the shower gel & shampoo & the bath room has some horrible smell, bed sheet is not change..is really turning you down...
when complained to the reception & ask to clean up the room tomorrow when we are out & we even turn on the house keeping light & personally inform the reception before we go out. again the rooms still no clean.
Really disappointling!

Self traveled to bali along with my parents (who were visiting me) and stayed at Aston Kuta Hotel & Residence for 3 days. Since it is newly built and close to kuta, had booked the hotel (2 rooms) almost 1 month in advance & was really looking forward to nice holiday with my parents. But the stay was VERY VERY disappointing. It really felt embarrassing in front of my parents for having chosen the hotel.
Be it the room or the staff, nothing seemed to be in order. Being a Four-Star hotel, we expected it to be great but it turned out to be the opposite.
The room & house keeping was most disappointing. Firstly the sliding doors of the balcony in one of the rooms was just stuck & we had to call for repairs. Even the aircon was not working fine in one of the rooms & had to call housekeeping again for checking, who just cleaned the net & went away with the problem remaining unresolved. We stayed there for 3 days but apart from the arrival day, on subsequent days neither were the hand towels replaced nor were the edibles (sugar/tea/coffee/mini bar etc). When one come back to the hotel at night & finds that neither the hand towels are there in the bathroom & nor are the tea bags/coffee/sugar in place, it makes one really angry. To keep making calls for each n every thing is not what one expects from a “FOUR STAR” hotel.
The pool & buffet breakfast are just about ok.
To top it all, had a really substandard experience on checking out. The hotel gave us a confirmation in USD & on checking out wanted to charge us in IDR at their own exchange rate…the so called their BOOKKEEPING RATE. The manager at reception was very unfriendly and when we explained to him that its ok to charge in IDR but use a fair/market exchange rate, he told us that either u pay USD or you pay hotel exchange rate (what ever it be 10k/12k/15k). One usually doesn’t carry so much cash with him while traveling and pays by credit card and hence we had to give in with no other option left. We have traveled to so many other South Asian countries but never had this problem of exchange rate at any hotel.
All in all, a terrible experience at the Aston Kuta Hotel & Residence ….

We absolutely loved this hotel. It's off the beaten track, but only 10,000 to 20,000 Rupiah taxi ride into Kuta central. Or, 30 minute walk.
The rooms are big, clean, fresh, with plenty of storage space. Bed was super comfy!
The restaurant is truly a highlight, the breakfast is 5 Star, the layout is open plan and so comfortable. The staff are amazing, hard working but always happy to help you with a smile.
I was a bit worried that the pool wouldn't get any sun, but it actually got a lot of sun, especially in comparison to another hotel with a similar setup.

All in all, we absolutely loved this hotel, and would recommend anyone staying here.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor with french doors opening out onto the pool. the main bedroom and lounge room had flat screen tv;s and there was a lounge and dining area.
The food was fantastic and the staff and service were friendly and second to none. we were picked up from the airport as promised and the hotel is located about 10mins fromn Kuta and 2 mins from Legian. We had a wonderful stay and are already planning to return next year.

The staff were very pleasant and attentive. I booked for 3 nights and was placed in a room on the ground floor (in front of the restaurant, and very near the lobby). On the first night, during midnight, there was a group check in and it was SO NOISY due to the loud laughters and conversations carried out by the group. The next morning, I went to the reception and told the staff about it, she immediately checked if there were any other rooms available for the next 2 nights, and placed me in a room far away from the lobby. I am truly impressed by her efficiency in tackling the issue immediately. I was going out for the day and will only be back late evening, so the staff told me to pack everything and leave it in the room, they will move everything to the other room for me when it was ready. When I came back to the hotel late evening, I was told that all have been moved to the new room. In the new room, I opened the mini bar to place something in, only to notice, there was a cookie which I left in the first room. I am very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff who checked the first room and ensured EVERYTHING from that room was moved to the new room. If not for this staff, I would've definitely forgotten all about the cookie I left in the minibar.

I was sort of upgraded to another room from the second night onwards, the room was located far away from the lobby, and on the second floor. There was one down side to this room, though. Everytime the toilet was flushed, there was a terrible sewerage odor, thus I had to make sure the cover was closed everytime we need to flush. For better protection, we had to make sure we closed the toilet door at all times as the odor can be detected in the room (experienced this when we forgot to close the toilet door, went out to the balcony to enjoy the magnificent view of the swimming pool, only to come back in to the room and be greeted by this terrible odor). We did not dare to hang up the towels in the toilet to dry for fear the odor will be absorbed by the towels.

Security is very good in this hotel. Breakfast is the same everyday, not as much choices as expected. But good enough to keep us filled until we go to the Kuta beach for yummy Bakso! Once we walked out to the main driveway, turn right and walk 5 minutes to the beach (not as crowded as Kuta, but good enough for some sunbathing). By turning left, we will pass by some shops, nothing special. Continue walking and turn left again at the mini round-a-bout, we should be heading to the Kuta centre. I was too lazy to walk, so I took a taxi and got cheated. Was told by the driver it would cost 50,000 Rupiah (approximately USD5.50) to the Kuta town centre, and realized he didn't use the meter. Later, a few other trips, we took the Bali BlueBird taxi and they used meters, each trip only cost around 15,000 Rupiah (approx. USD1.60). So make sure you hail the Blue Bird Group Taxis everywhere you go!

I supposed if walking from the hotel to Kuta town, it should take around 20 - 30 minutes. Though this hotel is not smacked right in front of the beach (like Mercure, or Hard Rock), I still liked this hotel due to the service and location. Being smacked in front of the beach can be extremely crowded and noisy. This hotel was quiet (except for the group check in around midnight on my first night here) and the service of the staff are extraordinary (from the front office, to the restaurant, to the concierge, to the bell boy). Though there is no wi-fi in the rooms, there is pretty good wi-fi service available at the lobby (they even have comfortable sofas and table at the lobby).

Definitely worth the money!
