My 12yr son and I stayed at the KP for 2 nights on way to Gili T and then 7 nights after that trip after recommendations from TA. When we arrived at night, I was overwhelmed by the enormous dark wooden foyer filled with giant, weird statues including a 4metre high replica of 'the thinker'.

On the way to our room second floor B block, there were even more massive statues and over our bed a giant island style painting of a young girl. Enough about the art, the room was a bit dark - no overhead light and with 3 lamps. Thought - I have chosen wrong hotel!

Next morning we had the buffet brek which son loved (pancakes, wedges, croissants, fried rice for him - toast, omelette and fresh fruit and yogurt for me) and it was great being on the beachfront. I was still thinking we will stay somewhere else after Gili as hotel is pretty big and full of big loud Aussie family groups plus the statues but then we went to the pool. It was so lovely. Enormous, clean and not too crowded. I even grew to like the gold 15 metre dragon and chariot statue that was its central feature! So we returned after Gili T.

this time we were put in A block in a room on top 3rd floor that looked directly over the pool and the gold chariot. It was so much better as it got lots of natural light, The NS and B blocks don't and also overlook the pathway to beach so no real aspect.

The rooms are pretty roomy, nice balcony and bathroom. We found the staff great. Really friendly and professional. The restaurant was pretty good and cheap. Great pizza. Banana juices. Ate there a lot as it was easy. For $100AUD a night I thought it was great value. I felt really safe there the security was really tight at both entrances. Son loved cartoon network, pool, food. I loved being able to leave him to go for a beach swim or shop. Free wifi in resto and in room $7 for 2 hours.

Wished they had overhead lights, some grassy areas, massage by pool, a few less giant statues! However would stay there again as it's quite peaceful safe and great value.

We (2 adults & 4 teenagers) stayed at The Kumala Pantai for a total of 10 nights in June/ July 2010. Our first 4 nights were in H block where we had 2 interconnecting rooms on the first floor (H07 & H08). Then we ventured off to Amed and Ubud for 4 nights before returning to stay at KP for another 6 nights in Y block on the second floor (Y17 & Y18) our rooms were next door but not connecting. My son was on crutches and when the second floor became too difficult for him to access we went to reception to request a ground floor room and later that day we were able to move everyone in Y17 to NS block (NS01).
There is not much difference in the rooms between these blocks, except the bathrooms in H block were noticeably bigger, though bathrooms in the other blocks were not small at all. They are marble and there is plenty of lighting a walk in shower as well as a shower over the bath. The towels as others have said are looking a little worn and grey, but they were clean and had that just washed smell!
The rooms in H block overlooked the reception entrance, but through a lovely manicured jungle. We were worried that we would find it noisy but it was fine. We preferred the position of Y block though as it had a lovely view of the pool. NS block was also fine and was closer to the restaurant and the beach end of the hotel, but a bit more of a walk to the pool.
The gardens are beautiful and very well maintained. The pools are both lovely, but we only ever went to the bigger and older of the two. We spent a lot of time relaxing on this trip and most that time was spent by the pool. It was never too busy, and was an oasis to the hustle and bustle of Legian.
I have read in previous reviews that some people don’t find the staff friendly, but the 6 of us would have to disagree. We called reception on numerous occasions requesting extra pillows, letting them know we had only received 2 breakfast vouchers(not 3 as needed), trouble with a safe not opening and an air conditioner (on the first night) cutting off. We had maintenance come to fix the air conditioner within 10 minutes and extra pillows and someone up to reset safe all within reasonable time frames. The staff attended to these requests in an efficient and friendly manner. A few days around the pool we ordered lunch and drinks, we did have to go to the pool bar to ask for a menu as they don’t come up to you every 5 minutes asking if you want something (thank god!), but once you have taken a menu they come over and take your order. I think the staff are encouraged not to initiate conversation with guests and to let people be, but if you say hello and start up a conversation they respond with a smile and some friendly dialogue. In our 10 days we always had a pool towel each. There did seem to be a mix of old and new, so this may be the start of updating the linen!
The buffet breakfast is good and sitting inside or outside in the restaurant overlooking the beach is a great way to start the day. We had some lunches and dinners at the Kumala Pantai restaurant and enjoyed every meal. With a few teenagers with did give the wood fired oven a workout as they ordered pizza’s anytime of the day for a meal or a snack. They say they are the “best margarita pizzas” they have had anywhere!
The location of this hotel is fantastic. When you walk out of the hotel through the restaurant at the beach end, you are right in the heart of a great strip of beach restaurants. At the other end of the hotel you walk out to shops, spas, laundries and more restaurants. I don’t think this hotel can be beaten for price and location. We are booked to go back next year!

I just got back from staying at the Kumal Pantai for 10 days. We went with a small group and booked 4 rooms almost a year in advance. When we arrived, they tried to tell us that we had only booked 3 rooms. After much discussion and arguing, and pulling out my itinerary, which clearly stated 4 rooms, they grudgingly gave us another room, with no apoligy. The rooms were really old and out dated, with mold on the walls and roof. The linen in the bathroom, was in need of replacing, the towells were thin and grey. The mattress was like a brick with springs protruding in places, and the pillows looked and felt like the were about 20 years old, yuk! Our airconditioner worked but was extremley noisey. The walls were paper thin and you could hear everything going on in the rooms to either side, and above. Breakfast was reasonable, the fruit didn't have much taste, and the eggs never came out cooked enough even when we asked for well done. There was always a large que for the toast machine and the egg station, so be prepared to wait awhile. The prices in the restaurant were good and the pizza was quite good (wood fired oven). The gardens and pool area were beautiful, and extremley well maintained, they were the best feature of the hotel.

There are many more hotels, in bali for around this price that are better. We won't be staying here again.

Just returned from 10 days at Kumala Pantai.
There was a lrge group of us (10 rooms in total), and at least 3 of us had to change rooms during the stay, never had this happen at any other hotel.
The room we had (NS block) were older, with some mold on the walls, and every room i visited seemed to have a leak near the toilet!
Linen and towels are well past their use by date! defeniately due for replacement.

Good location, but next time i'd rather pay a bit more and stay in a better hotel.

we stayed at the kumala pantai for one night after a great 2 week holiday elsewhere in bali. it was awful. i was very surprised at the hotel as the website looks really good. the grounds are nice, although a bit claustrophobic. the floor of our room was really dirty and whats going on with the small old towels and sheets!! they are so old they are grey! from our window and balconey you could see straight into the rooms opposite - lovely!! breakfast was reeeally ordinary - i would opt for the eggs cooked fresh and perhaps some fruit. its a big place, not so good if you are looking for something romantic, but perhaps good if you are a family and need to work more too a budget. its very right in the middle of everything so i guess its handy. in saying that taxis are so cheap in bali that i would stay somewhere else and just grab taxis to get around. i love bali, so the kumala pantai was a dissappointment to me. i guess its cheap so you get what you pay for. my advise - pay a little more and have a better experience!!

We stayed for 7 nights in the ambassador suite in S block,3 teenagers 2 adults. The rooms were large and clean, bathrooms ok,and pool access right at the doors. The hotel grounds are a masterpiece of balinese gardening, the foyer is full of carved art,and the beachside restuarant is a pleasant place to sit, food was average as was breakfast.
Although we chose the KP from great reviews on TA (was #1) we can see why it is slipping dramaticaly in standings. The pool bar has no atmophere at all, grumpy staff,no smiles,no balinese feel whatsoever.Grab a towell early or miss out.The restuarant staff have a robotic blank attitude, very uncommon in bali.We put it down to managements house rules. Please guys, lighten up and let them socialise with guests, put some music on at the pool bar,it doesnt need to be loud, extend closing time by 2 hours at least, and chill out a bit.
