Everything perfect (except the soap in the shower): Food, drinks, hotel layout, pools, location, and really friendly staff.

Stayed here for a week after travelling around Bali, i've also stayed nextdoor at the Jayakarta, i'd say go the Kumala Pantai over the Jaykarta any day. Its well priced for what you get and in general service was good. The Wi-fi in the restaurant is free but can be naseatingly slow depending on the time of day and when i tried to use the in-room wifi (50,000 rp per 2 hours) it didnt work ut they gave me a refund and were very apologetic. The room was big, clean, and airy and the shower was nice and hot with good strong pressure. At first they tried to put me in H block which is by the road, and they werent to happy when I asked to be put somewhere else a little quieter, but after making a show of how much I was putting them out they reluctantly moved me to NS block which was much quieter and overlooks the lovely garden and is closer to the restaurant/beach.
Definitely good value for money.

On our recent trip to Bali this had to be the worst of 10 hotels we stayed in there....reasons were most of the staff especially younger ones were very rude in their manner and dont smile...everything a hassle to do for you if at all..gardiner was so cool and nice..keep it up buddy...the appt was ok...except the bed was so hard and the frame very noisy...smelly toilet...remote broken...sheets smelled like had not been washed...breakfast was limited and ordinary...Balinese music played regularly so loud...drives you nuts...FREE WI FI...RARELY WORKED !!..ate next door at Seaside hotel...great food and nicer staff..out of ten rate this hotel a 4...sorry guys you just have not made the grade.

I have stayed here a few time's on my trips to Bali and wouldn't want to stay any where else! The staff make you feel right at home, your rooms are serviced daily! and if you like the beach it's right at your door step.there are many great resturants on the beach behind the resort, one of my fav's is Lanai. I plan to marry @ Kumala in 2010 with the price of the room's so low all my family can afford to come too!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESORT TO EVERYONE!

We stayed at this hotel after being recommended by others who frequently travel to Bali. Not only are you away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta, but you are in walking distance to an amazing beach, restaurants and shops with everything you need...even ice creams selling for a mere 5000 r = less than 1 Aus dollar!! The hotel will organize your taxi's to the airport on departure and upon arrival to Dempasar airport I recommend you pay the government taxi service as it is cheaper to do this at the airport than pay for one waiting out the front. We payed 20,000r from the hotel to head into Kuta to shop, or without children many locals will transport you on their scooters or hire one yourself for 40,000 for the day..that's $5 and petrol costs next to nothing. The breakfast at the hotel consists of Balinese and western cuisine. They serve fresh fruit, bread, pancakes, croissants (although the maple syrup is very different) and eggs being your own style of omlette, scrambled etc. This is not a 5 star banquet breakfast so don't expect it but there is plenty of food and coffee to keep you going. The two enormous pools were always clean and the rooms were serviced daily including complimentary bottles of water, although you can buy more for around 20c Aus per bottle. The rooms are clean and quite modern. There are movies on every night but we never watched them as being in Bali why would you...but good to know if you have children. There is a clinic within walking distance, the hotel will call the doctor and this operates 24hourly. The place was clean and the doctor and nurse spoke great English and were very thorough...expect to pay around 1,000,000r around $120 Aus for a visit, so my advise is make sure you take your own antibiotics if you feel slightly unwell prior to traveling. Sunscreen. costs more per bottle than it does to feed a large family and women' s products will sting you big time so ladies be prepared and BYO. If taking a baby (as we did) take your own baby food, as it is imported into Bali and very expensive to buy there. We are already organising our next visit and will be returning to the Kumala Pantai- don't confuse this hotel with the kumala hotel they are close to each other but very different. I recommend this hotel 100% I loved everything about it, the people, the area, the beach i have no complaints. Book asap as people book 12 months in advance for this hotel. I also highly recommend a day trip to the Bali Safari Park...it costs $35US but was amazing and well worth the money...the animals are treated like kings, not chained and its all about conservation..I mention this as it is not a well known tourist spot in Bali ;-)

Stayed here for 5 nights and admit we are not legian fans. good location for walking to shops but no better than places at tuban or kuta for walking to shops. seemed to do a lot more walking as markets and shops were spread out. rooms ok, stayed in h block by the driveway so a bit noisy late at night. place is big, pools okay but dont expect a lounge by the pool unless people have gone for lunch. staff that we saw were helpful but it lacks a personal atmosphere. handy being across from the beach but that end of the beach is not as nice as the kuta part. Overall, for the price and location it is good but if you prefer a more cultural visit, nicer accommodation, nicer beach there are other places in bali for the same price but not the access to shops or as many restaurants. would only recommend to people who love the noise and bustle of legian. Watch out for the huge clouds of insecticide smoke when they spray for mozzies!! wonder what it is and whether it is legal in australia? Rooms were cleaned daily and cleaned well. Bathrooms were very nice.

“A 5 stars hotel at a price of 2/3 stars” I remember reading this description about Kumala Pantai hotel in a review from TripAdvisor and I really feel the same after spending a night in this hotel recently.

A beautiful garden, spotless clean & spacious deluxe room with comfortable bed and near to beach, only cost Rp550,00 per night including breakfast, really value for money!!

We got 3 deluxe rooms at the SG block, all look clean and brand new. We are lucky as no bad smell in our rooms (as I read from other comments), in fact, I like the smell of the scented pillow, very light and very relaxing.

The breakfast is good and the beach is just next to the open air restaurant. I would say, this is a wonderful place to start your bali trip...

p/s: tried to upload photos of the hotel here but failed despite numerous attemps. If you wish, you may view the photos at the following link:
