“A hidden treasure”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We were surprised at the entrance here... a little gap in the wall. But what a treat when you go in, set in a garden atmosphere with little streams and bridges and the tables in leafy surroundings. Service was good, prices reasonable and food was excellent. The second time we ate here we had the Rice Table, and cannot recommend this enough. You get LOADS and it is all really really good. An outstanding meal.

“Best Garlic Bread in Bali”
Reviewed July 24, 2013 via mobile

This is always our first stop in Bali for dinner. The place is nice and relaxing in a quiet little area off Poppies lane from the hustle of Kuta. The staff are always friendly and remember you from previous years. The garlic bread is a must for our family. The satays on there special little holders with the hot coals are excellent. We never have had a bad meals and always tell our friends it is a must when they are in Bali.

“Love Poppies - repeat customer”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

We’ve been making Poppies our ‘first night dinner’ in Bali for the past 4 years and will continue to do so! Our first stop is always the Jermyn Street Tailor directly opposite Poppies Restaurant’s doorway, then straight in for an early dinner (around 5.30pm). At this time, there are usually only a couple of tables occupied and we feel like we have the place to ourselves. There’s a security guard at the door, stopping hawkers from coming in selling DVDs etc, like you get at other restaurants throughout Kuta.

We’ve never had a bad meal – usually I eat the more Western food, as I’m quite fussy but this time my husband and I had the "RIJSTTAFEL" (rice table) which includes about 20 tasting dishes of Indonesian food (including dessert). There was only one dish I didn’t like, but despite being fussy I loved trying things I never would have ordered. The kids also enjoyed tasting different things.

Our total bill for 4 people was $69 AUD and well worth it. This included the rice table, pasta dishes and sate for the kids, milkshakes, juice and a couple of Bintangs – great value with great service. Because we’re there when it’s quiet, the staff are able to stop and chat for a while. They’ve taught the kids simple phrases and pleasantries in Indonesian, which goes down a treat with the Balinese throughout our trip!

“What a lovely surprise off Poppies Lane”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Poppies has been an institution in Bali for 40 years and if you speak to anybody that's been to Bali, it's always high on the recommendation list of, places to eat.

We were dropped off by taxi at the far end of Poppies Lane and had no idea what we were in for, (as we passed numerous market type stalls), but what a lovely surprise it was when we got there. We were welcomed into a garden style oasis; tranquil and away from the chaos of Kuta. The ambience of the restaurant along with gardens, water features etc set the tone for a very relaxing evening.

Firstly, we discovered no visit to Poppies is complete without trying one of their world famous Piña Colada's; brought out and presented in an ornamentally hand-carved coconut....this definitely had wow factor.

The menu was diverse in choice; there was something for everyone. We ate seafood, which was very reasonably priced. In total the bill came to $37, for 3 cocktails, 3 mains, 1 enormously divine cream brulee; plus the service was excellent.

It's not Masterchef dining like we can get back in Australia, but we would definitely dine here again when we return to Bali. Between, the service, the Balinese ambience and the extensive menu it's worth a visit.

“Beautiful, peaceful environment”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Poppies Restaurant takes you away from the hustle and bustle of busy Kuta into a tranquil environment. Most tables are surrounded by gardens and water features. We visited three times in 10 days and just loved the Sate' that was served on individual coal based cookers, the Lumpia spring rolls were fantastic and all prices were very reasonable. Will go back next time I'm in Bali and recommend to anyone that visits! Insect repellent can also be handy for those who seem to attract anything that bites.
