unforunately service was incredible poor and there were only 2 parties there when we visited. had to get up and order after waiting and then had to get up again to pay the bill. dont bother going unless your going to get the coconuts.

Dear Ema W,
We sincerely apologise for this state of affairs, and we have taken serious steps to avoid a repeat. It is no excuse whatsoever, and quite paradoxical, but it is worth mentioning that maintaining proper service in a restaurant is most difficult when only a couple of tables are occupied.
We are trying to ensure that poor service will not be a feature of Poppies Restaurant in the future.

“Just Pop In - Poppies Restaurant 1, Kuta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

Perfect tranquil garden surroundings with loads of character in the heart of crazy Kuta. Two of us shared the authentic traditional Rijstaffel (from when the Dutch ruled Indonesia). This is an elaborate tasting selection of 10 different dishes prepared in true Indonesian style, including spicy beef rendang, squid and prawn curries, a delicious lamb gulai, fish, chicken and beef satays, gado gado and more, along with various sambals and rice. Includes dessert which we were too full to finish. Reasonably priced at around $22AUD for two. Poppies also has a fairly comprehensive a la carte menu including Indonesian, seafood, salad and pasta dishes. Drinks service could have been a bit quicker but this place is definitely worth a try.

“Get a Pina Colada”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

My husband and I are honeymooning and had just arrived in Bali. We were recovering from our jetlag in Kuta, and weren't really enjoying the city. Our Lonely Planet book had suggested Poppies for good Indonesian cuisine. We had decided to give it a try! We were blown away with how beautiful the garden is, especially in Kuta. After being harassed all day by hawkers, it was so nice to enter the tranquility of Poppies.
The service was okay. A little timid for my taste, but I am finding that is the style of service in Bali. The world famous Pina Colada is incredible. Sure, it tastes good, but the coconut that it is served in is totally worth the price. What a memory!
My husband and I both ordered the Balinese speciality, suckling pig. I've tried suckling pig twice since I have arrived, and it was the best at Poppies. I have realized I don't love suckling pig, so I'm going to say Poppies has the best suckling pig, and the only suckling pig I'm going to order! Keep in mind, suckling pig was a special and only available on Sundays.

“Our Bali favourite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

Poppies is our favourite place to eat in Bali.
All the food is delicious. The staff are very very friendly.
The setting is very nice and quiet.
Every time we visit Bali we eat at Poppies at least 2 or 3 times if not more.
