Jamahal Private Resort & Spa
Ranked #1 of 59 Hotels in Jimbaran
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 8, 2014

My husband and I stayed here for 12 nights after 3 nights in Bangkok. What a completely different experience! It was nothing short of spectacular. We chose this over the bigger busier Four Seasons at Jimbran and will do again if travelling to Bali without children. Our poolside villa was decadent with phenomenal service. This resort was recommended to my husband by an acquaintance as being discreet and exclusive....it is that and more. Very much a gem!

Pros
- Nice big room, bed and bathroom
- Lovely private feeling, but at the same time facilities of a hotel
- Pool was nice
- Nice "surprises" like complimentary snacks with coffee, early check in, late check out, mosquito spray, massage and bath tub filled with flower petals (in room)
- Excellent, friendly, attentive staff. It was nice that they all knew our names!
- Drive to the private beach area
- Free wifi
- Very reasonable prices for drinks, in room dining, etc
- Lovely breakfast at requested locations
- Amazing levels of service
- Beautiful lush space
- Uniquely small and intimate
- Good location by local market, massage parlours and some larger hotel resorts

Cons
- Room and facilities in room felt a bit "dated". Maybe we were expecting something a bit more modern?
- For the size of the room TV felt a bit small (I know this may be quite a personal thing though)
- The bed was very uncomfortable (the side closest to the wash room)
- The pillows were too thick (perhaps a personal thing)
- The room was quite dark, perhaps more lighting options could be provided
- The amenities were limited. It would have been nice to include toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
- Would have been nice for every guest to have their own cabana / sun bed by the pool
- Private beach area felt a bit "sparse"
- No wifi at beach area
- [not at all something you can control and fully understand this has nothing to do with the hotel, but just want to raise it] some guests were VERY noisy
- Breakfast options were a bit limited, I was expecting at least some egg / meat choices in the included breakfast
- Some of the food (Indonesian) was average. Not bad at all, but not amazing at the same time
- Turn down service can include closing the curtains

I should say overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very happy with our choice of hotel (and location) and glad we stayed at Jamahal. We would without question recommend your hotel to others and would come back ourselves. The "cons" are just minor "cons" and hopefully more as suggestions to try and improve your hotel a tiny bit more to make it even more better than it already is.

I have to say for the price, it was a bargain.

Also Jimbarin itself is quite nice. It is very laid back and chilled. Very quiet compared to Kuta or Seminyak, but the best thing, the prices as so much cheaper than these areas.

Room Tip: Try and get one with pool access!

I stayed in the poor villa 2. It was really I got what I had expected! Clean, spacious, cozy, quiet, exclusive and totally private room. While I didn't plan too much for my trip in Bali hence I asked the staff in the resort helping me to arrange everything including renting a car for a day tour to Ubud, surfing lessons, water sports, spa, even buying a coconut outside. Everything I want the staff was so attentive and trying to help. A really good deal and stay during the Chinese New Year!

We took advantage of the VIP offer for 3 days and added an extra day. We were delighted to find our Garden villa had a huge outdoor spa. The outdoor bathroom had a sunken bath filled with a welcoming petal bath. A mosquito coil was lit each night so "mossies" were never an issue during a nocturnal bathroom visit.

The luxury of ordering an American breakfast and having it in your villa suited us. No having to get dressed and dining with throngs of holiday makers picking through mounds of standard buffet offerings. Just tumble out of bed and enjoy a leisurely meal delivered and set up by the perennially cheerful butler, with your own choice of music at a time you decided There was also an Asian breakfast option though we did not try it

We did try the Mie Goreng and Beef Rendang for lunch on our last day and it was beautifully presented with the "heat" adjusted to order! The included VIP voucher dinner was set up with candles and flowers, we neglected to give 24 hours notice so did not receive it on our Wedding Anniversary, but it was not an issue the dinner we had, was like all the meals - superb. Especially recommend the Pannacotta dessert and the homemade yoghurt for breakfast and the pumpkin seed dinner rolls. We had bought our own bottle of Merlot and Champagne and just requested appropriate glasses. The mini bar in the room was free - Bintang, Coca -cola and sparking or still water, which is a nice touch.

We ate locally at Cuca, Sundara ,Paper-planes and at Creole cafe in Seminyak. We visited Jengalla a ceramic store had a cafe onsite. All excellent choices- thanks to trip advisor reviews.

We chose to walk down to the beach, the security at the entrance were always quick to halt traffic to enable a safe passage to cross the busy road. It was interesting"sticky beaking" at the other larger resorts enroute. To be honest the beaches in Oz are superior, however we do not have the beach clubs and smiling service that is so endearing in Bali. The tides in January had brought piles of flotsam and it was humbling watching the manual workers pick through it for recycling and load it on to trucks. We were told the swimming at the beach is better after March.

We spent time in the immaculate pool, which is exactly as it looks in the photos. One could sunbathe on the loungers or use the covered day beds. You could get meals or snacks / afternoon tea delivered.

The VIP offer included a couples massage, delivered in an impeccably clean environment by a skilful therapists. There was no clatter, chatting or giggling, just soothing music and a murmured "is the pressure okay" I went outside- to the left of Jamahal for a less expensive mani/pedi and facial.

As the title states this was just a perfect sojourn to escape for our 35th Wedding Anniversary. We hope to return as the environment was calm and quiet with an unobtrusive consistency in service delivery at all levels. Finally, the Wi Fi was included (not an extra) we each got a log on localised to the villa, but we used it to stay in touch with family through "what's app".

Room Tip: We stayed in Cempaka 8, a garden villa with a lovely outdoor spa. The highlight was trying to locate...

Very friendly and personal service
It's not a place where you will find the showcasing of the unusual upper 5 star. It's more like a home. You also avoid groups that can spoil your stay at the pool or restaurant. Service is always friendly and eager to help. You don't find the usual 9 to 5 workforce there. Everything is customized to deal with requests of the customers.

The home feeling grows on you, one recognizes the benefits of the concept after one or two days.

For all the usual 5 star 200 room resort vibes one can take the taxi and experience that by going to the beach club at the 4 seasons for a more public dinner and drinks atmosphere. There are a lot more other options that the hotel team will organize for you.

Nice to have the contrast between a private home and the bustle.

It's nice and it's different.

We stayed here for three nights as part of our honeymoon and only wish we'd arranged to stay longer. Although more expensive than the average hotel on Bali it is worth every penny. The staff were what really made this place special, they went out of their way to do everything possible for you, from having a bath drawn with floating petals and incense burning upon your arrival, to the turn down service in the evenings (which included little touches such as lighting mosquito coils around the outside of your villa, and altering the lighting). The main pool, outdoor bathrooms, private pool and villa were all immaculately presented at all times. The gym is small but has all that you require and we never found it to be crowded. The food was really good, we only went for the Indonesian dishes which were all superb and we really appreciated that the chef was willing to add a little extra spice for us. We received a complementary upgrade but would have given this hotel five stars without this as even the standard garden villas are fantastic and came with the same impeccable service. Within walking distance are excellent seafood warung on the beach, as well as Jimbaran town which is far less commercialised and more upmarket than Kuta. There is a beach club (around 400m away) but we never felt the need to go as the resort grounds were so beautiful and catered for your every need.
