“A lovely relaxing hotel close to the Beach and Airport”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2009

Good Points
Nice hotel
Friendly staff
Great pool
Only 5 mins to beach
Close to airport
Nice cheap massages.
Good reasonable food.

Bad Points
They forgot the airport pickup - but this could have been because I only emailed to confirm the day before.
There does not seem to be that much to do near by apart from Jimbaran Beach, so I would suggest this as a great place to go as the first hotel on arrival in Bali for two nights. You might get bored if you were here for a week.

Puri Bambu is great value for money. Rooms are big and clean, food is cheap and tasty and massages are a steal at $5 an hour.

The staff is helpful and friendly and previous reviews which state that they want money for everything are just untrue.

The location is good as it is close enough to the action, but quiet.

Tips:
Confirm your airport to hotel transfers before leaving for Bali.
Rent a car or motorbike from "Rudy Car Rent" to see Bali. It is situated off the main beach road in Jimbaran. Enquire at the "Blue Marlin" seafood restaurant.
For a beautiful, quiet beach, visit Dreamland aka New Kuta Beach, about 8km from Puri Bambu.
The seafood restaurants are great, but a little expensive, Puri Bambu dinners are very cheap and tasty.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2009

We stayed at Puri Bambu for the first 2 nights of our Bali holiday in early April 2009. Our plane was over an hour late but a lovely driver was still there waiting to drive us to the hotel for free when we finally cleared customs.
The room was very large if a very basic room but the king bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. We had a deluxe room so I expected a little more as I don't know how much more basic the standard rooms could be than what we had, but there was essentially nothing wrong with our room, other than the bathroom perhaps needing a paint. Our very large room was on the ground floor, away from the pool and was all tiled within which is nice and cool on the feet. Very quiet and the grounds aren't very big so it only took 1 minute to walk to the pool and reception, if that.
We got to peek into a villa and these were just lovely, an outdoor shower and a living room as well as a huge canopied bed.
The grounds are beautiful, I agree with the below review, the grounds are like botanical gardens. There is no grassed areas as all the grounds are very lush and full of tropical plants and trees. Nothing says you are in a tropical climate like frangipanis all over the gound!
The pool was a lovely size and temperature, partly in shade and mostly in the sun and with the bar staff very keen to chat about where you come from and talk about Bali with you.
The room service is incredibly cheap and the menu is a little entertaining, serving a "pluffy duck" on the cocktails menu and calamari on the "fresh from the garden menu"!
The breakfast is very basic, as is the restaurant area. Breakfast is included and the room service menu so cheap that without digging deep you could order breakfast from that to eat at your little outdoor table at your room instead if you wanted to, or the outdoor eating area.
There is a little airconditioned room with about 3 computers that have internet access in the lobby area. This is at a cost, which by any western standards is cheap, but you can find a lot cheaper in Kuta/Legian for internet too if you can wait.
The restaurant on Jimbaran Beach that we were taken to on advisement from the staff wasn't the best one I have been to there. It was called Cuisine. We were picked up from the hotel and taken to it, in appearance it is like every other restaurant on the beach and the staff were very attentive and friendly, but the seafood cooked wasn't as delicious as I expected for such a competitive area and such a location. But there are a ton of restaurants to choose from on Jimbaran Beach, all next to each other within a space of about 500 metres and this beach is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Going there for dinner is highly recommended as the sunset and sitting at tables right on the sand are not to be missed! Roving bands serenade tables (expect to give a "donation" for this) and there are cooked corn on the cob vendors sporadically along the beach too. When the sun goes down candles on tables are lit and you truly know you are on a romantic holiday at that location in that climate. It is definitely a place to pop the question (or have it popped to you)!!
Jimbaran Beach is much more beautiful than Kuta Beach. The divider of the airport landing strip seems to keep Jimbaran water a whole lot cleaner than Kuta, the Jimbaran water was so clean and blue, especially the more south you go. Jimbaran Beach is only about 2kms long. There are a few dead fish at the north end of the beach as this is where the fishing boats all come in, but at the south end of the beach it is just perfect.
Jimbaran Bay is well known for being a very expensive hotel area with hotels such as the Intercontinental and Four Seasons so this hotel was a pleasant surprise to find when it comes to cost. It is not on the beach and where it is located is actually called Kedonganan, not Jimbaran, but same same really.
Jimbaran is not a shopping or bar area, it is an area for the beach, these restaurants and relaxing. There is nothing stopping you from going to the 5 star hotels and having a drink by their pools or at their outdoor bars to be able to sit and watch the sea and sun coming down if you don't go to any of the restaurants.
For those on a budget and just wanting a slow part to the holiday, I would highly recommend Puri Bambu, very simple but clean and very pretty.

We enjoy every minute at this cozy hotel. Wonderful surroundings (hotel setting is almost like a very well-kept botanical garden). Very quiet and peaceful. Great pool.

Staff is nice and helpful, although they tried to get commission for almost anything. The pool guys recommended us to go to a certain seafood restaurant said his cousin work there. One of the front desk guy refuse to call BlueBird Taxi for us and said he would help us to call a cheaper service. But it is almost the same anywhere you go in Bali.

A great choice if you like SEAFOOD, the hotel is at walking distance (7min.) to the famous Jimbaran seafood restaurants. They even have live dance every night, and a flamingo band going from one table to another with live music (pretty good singing) all along the beach. Remember to get at least 50% discount at any restaurant you go to.

Overall it is a great deal. Good value for the money you pay

We returned from Bali today. Stayed at Puri Bambu for 6 days. The service is excellent and so is the food. Very clean. Although we had booked a Standard Room, we got upgraded to a Superior room at no extra cost. The spa treatments were very good. Cyber corner needs some work.. internet connection is very slow and a bit expensive.
