Stayed in a huge cliff top villa with large pool and furnished to a very high standard. I could rave for some time about it but instead will provide some tips for enjoying your stay. Firstly you can completely customise your bar with drinks of your choice - the list is in the TV guide compendium.
Secondly do not be put off by the extremely limited wine list for room service/in room bar - you can go to Dava and pick from their extensive wine list and walk it back to your villa. Try the Artisan wines they are from Australia but bottled in Bali by an Aussie wine maker - so are cheap as no import duty. Forget the Rock Bar - there are 629 hotel guest rooms all with priority access - get the picture - long wait for the seven person inclinator and for what - to watch a sunset. Having said that if you just want a late night drink the queus are gone by 8pm. If you go to Kisuk -the seafood restaurant - go early as the selection is basically sold out by 7.30. The spa is fantastic - 90 min Balinese massage in a double room - but here's a tip -at the time you make your reservation get them to print the details - otherwise when you turn up for your treatment you may be faced with a 5+minute wait whilst they search for your booking my name, my room, by time, by type of treatment .........instead just say "g'day - we're here for this treatment"

My best advice is settle into the Balinese way of doing things as soon as possible - understand that this is not Asian quality service - but if you smile, respect and engage the staff you might be surprised when one of the bar staff draws a caricature, or you arrive home to find your bedroom festooned in rose petals with gifts of chocolates and other goodies or the staff just wave and sing out to you wherever you are. We are already looking forward to going back.

Room Tip: If you want privacy in your cliff top villa try and get 3008 or 3007

We recently spent 3 nights at the Ayana resort in a cliff front villa.
Ayana resort is definitely a beautiful looking resort, and our villa was spectacular looking. However, if your expecting your cliff front villa to be On the cliff, well, it isn't. Not like many of the other resorts along the Bukit. It's close to the cliff front, and you can see the ocean, but there is a large grassed area between your villa and the cliff. The problem with this was that this area is accessible by all the other villa guests, which means that you really don't have the 'absolute privacy' in your pool and cabana area as they quote. And you can't see of the cliff unless you walk to the edge.
The resort is very large, and there are many restaurants. We were there during shoulder season and we were told that the resort was 65% occupied. Even with such moderate occupancy, you must book restaurants a day or two in advance or risk missing out. There are just not enough facilities for the number of guests they accommodate. The pool areas are sadly lacking in available pool lounges as well.
Many people come here to experience the famous rock bar, and although the Resort quotes that you get priority access to the Rock Bar, this doesn't happen. You get a priority line to the front of the queue to take the gondola down to again queue up in line and wait for an available table. If you want a waterfront position they require a minimum spend, even though we were paying almost $1000 per night for the villa. Much better to book an early table at the Kisik seafood restaurant next door, for the sunset and go to the Rock Bar after for some drinks. Better spot, reservations available and don't have to wait in a line. How they can allow outsiders from into this facility and not allow guests to reserve or get priority is bizarre.
We also had a 'butler' for our villa, and unfortunately he was hopeless. Got most things wrong, including restaurant reservations, checkout and transfer times, and many basic requests such as restocking the minibar. Simple things we're beyond them unfortunately.
Also, this resort is really in Jimbaran, not really at the Bukit area. It's a long trip to the real Bukit area of Padang Padang or Uluwatu etc. you can't rent your own car or motorbike through the hotel, they don't allow that. And if you take a car with a driver it's US$15 per hour. Very expensive.
The restaurants drinks and everything else is expensive too, very much high end western prices, not Bali affordable. I mean $40 plus for main meals in the better restaurants, and over $20 plus for basic Asian dishes.
It's an incredibly beautiful resort, but only really catering to people who want to stay in the resort and don't have a budget.

Dear ‘BballeyGC’

Thank you very much for your feedback after staying in a private pool villa at AYANA Resort and Spa.

I am delighted that you found the resort beautiful, and I greatly appreciate your comments on areas where we can improve and exceed guest expectations. We do have ‘Privacy’ signs along the front of the cliff to deter guests from entering the garden area in front of our Ocean Front Villas, which are not a public area and do not have any walkway or path, but provide a garden buffer area for safety reasons at the cliff-edge. We will alert our team to your experience of seeing other guests in this area, as it is not only a privacy issue for Villa guests, but a safety issue for the guests who walk into that area.

In terms of our dining options we have 15 restaurants and bars across AYANA and our new sister hotel RIMBA Jimbaran Bali, offering a variety of cuisines at various price ranges. I understand your concern about Rock Bar Bali not taking reservations although we prioritize in-house guests at the inclinator and for seating at the bar. Currently we have capacity for 297 people seated at Rock Bar, and to support the demand we are opening a new Sunset Bar at the cliff-top so that guests may choose to enjoy the sunset view from the cliff-top. I also agree with you that Kisik Seafood Restaurant on the sand is an excellent sunset venue for dinner or cocktails, with the same ocean-front views as Rock Bar in a more intimate, tranquil environment. I will share your feedback about Rock Bar and the minimum consumption charge on daybeds with our Food and Beverage Director for his review and consideration.

We have 5 pools at AYANA and another 6 at RIMBA, which is just a few minutes away by a complimentary resort shuttle, and the pool furniture at RIMBA includes submerged sunbeds in the water for a different experience to AYANA’s pools. We have metered taxis on standby for guests who do not wish to use the hotel transport service; a trip to Uluwatu by metered taxi is around Rp70,000 ($7).

I have investigated your comments about your butler as this is certainly not in line with the standards of service on which are butlers pride themselves, and which most guests experience and comment on. I have found that your butler did in fact make the dining reservations and we have traced and logged the correspondence between the butler and the restaurants showing the confirmed reservations. I apologize for any miscommunication or misunderstanding in relation to these reservations. Our butlers are trained by the Guild of Professional Butlers in the UK, and I will highlight your comments to ensure that even when we have confirmed restaurant bookings, we reconfirm everything to our guests to avoid a similar situation as you experienced.

Again thank you very much for your feedback, we will use your comments to review these areas of our service and improve the experience for our Villa guests, to ensure maximum privacy, exclusivity and superior service throughout the resort.
Best regards,

Clive Edwards

Very nice resort. Large compound and surroundings/greenery were well maintained. We stayed at the main resort with a nice patio on the ground level.

However, Wi-Fi connection was very poor, even though we paid for it. There is no free Wi-Fi in the common areas except at the rock bar and even there the connection was poor.

Food in the resort is good but too expensive. Could easily get the same quality food outside but to get-out of the resort you have to hire a taxi or take the resort shuttle bus which brings you to Bali collection. Have to book in advanced with the concierge.

Excellent hotel, very good service n friendly staff.
Very Impressed by the view, you can spend the entire day in the hotel itself by checking the private beach, rock bar etc....
Though it's right on top of a hill and towards the end of Jimbaran, but taxi is easy cos the Hotel has alliance with taxi company. Good variety of breakfast provided. Will definitely come back again...

Restaurants to check out in BALI : Ultimo. Chandis, Ketupat, Mamasan etc....

Amazing view, resort and stuff. Wonderful pools (especially those in Rimba) Yet, everything overpriced: I paid 40 USD for Ranitidine pills, Wi-fi was about 25 USD/day, the food and spa very expensive.

The breakfast very diversified, but not tasty enough for a 5* hotel. The furniture is oldy.

In the last day, we visited Rimba and everything seemed amazing: hotel design, pools, staff, cabanas.

Room Tip: Try Rimba Hotel (Ayana`s little sister).

Dear ‘Marina A’

Thank you for sharing your experience after staying at AYANA Resort and Spa.

I am delighted to know that you enjoyed the shared facilities between AYANA and our new sister hotel RIMBA Jimbaran Bali including our 11 swimming pools. We continuously review our prices against other 5-star resorts in Bali to ensure we remain competitive, whilst providing the highest standard of quality and service delivery. WiFi internet is charged at additional fee of Rp200,000 per 24-hour period is in the standard rooms of AYANA, but it is free in public areas for all guests, as well as in Villas for Villa guests and in the Club Lounge for Club-level guests.

I’m glad that you enjoyed the design, ambience and service of the new RIMBA, which offers a different experience to the traditional setting of AYANA. RIMBA also offers complimentary WiFi in all guest rooms, and I hope you can return in the future as a guest to enjoy this additional benefit.

Again thank you for your comments, and I hope to see you back in the future – perhaps at RIMBA.
