“Best of both worlds: Privacy + Numerous public facilities”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

If you want both public and privacy, Ayana has the best blend of both worlds. It has private-villas and regular hotel rooms, which we stayed in the latter, but leaving this review to describe only the rooms would certainly be an understatement.

Quick tips:
- If you're a hotel guest, you MUST visit the Rock Bar. As a hotel guest, you can go in the 'priority line' and pass the long waiting line for the Rock Bar.
- You MUST visit the Infinity Pool, located next to the Rock Bar. It is hidden and far from the reaches of the public, so it is truly a hidden gem. It is located on a cliff of a cliff, and faces the ocean.
- Try their spa treatments (we will try next time but heard it was top-notch and highly creative that can't be found anywhere in Bali; it can be pricey)
- Try one of their romantic dinners for two. We had the Candelight Dinner* (details below).
- This resort is perfect for a friends with couples get-together. You can have your own privacy in your rooms or villas (this resort offers both), and meet your friends in one of the many public facilities.

Cool things to know:
- A medical doctor is on the hotel premises, in case you need medical assistance.
- Multi-lingual staff (we had a Korean staff to help us!)
- Ayana provides its OWN drivers at a certain fee (all drivers have a fee pamphlet that they can show you - it shows a breakdown of the cost per hour). Because these drivers are Ayana-approved drivers, you will feel very safe and they are trustworthy.

*Candelight Dinner: Consists of your personal butler. Your dinner is served under a canopy with gorgeous views of the water and the nearby cliff. It is not on the cliff, but it is close to it (perhaps due to safety reasons). They set up countless number of candelights in the courtyard that is personally yours for the entire night. The courtyard is open, so people may accidentally come to your area to see what the fuss is about; thankfully, your butler shoos them away. Honestly, it is pricey but for a honeymoon dinner (we had this on our last night), my wife and I loved it. We recommend you go to the Rock Bar afterwards, and your butler will be happy to show you where it exactly is.

Special thanks to Jinhee Seo, the Korean Guest Relations Coordinator. Besides his Korean language, which was very helpful to us, he also ensured our check-in was successful and even gave a phone call once we went into the room to make sure if everything was ok. My wife was sick and needed medical assistance, and we had a doctor within 5 minutes come and check her out. Jinhee arranged to have the doctor come. This guy deserves a promotion!

Room Tip: - Rock Bar is a must - Infinity Pool is a must (hidden but located next to the Rock Bar and close t...

Best cliff top location in Bali. This exquisite resort wraps around acres of waterfront with amazing views from the resort. An older style resort which has maintained the wonderful blend of traditional Balinese culture whilst servicing your every need. Foremost is the sensation Rock Bar -perched down and around the cliff face with a a view "to die for". We ate at most of the restaurants and found them all to be exceptional. Such variety- from casual snacks to fine dining. The facilities are good and well maintained but the highlight for us was the sensational staff! Efficient, friendly, non-invasive - I'd love to bring them all back to Australia! (Or their trainer). We had a few days relaxing in a 1 bedroom villa- didn't want to leave. We had an amazing sea view from all rooms- even the bathroom while showering! I would prefer to stay in this traditional hotel any time compared to an ultra modern one. Best of Balinese culture, service and stunning location. The management are obviously doing a sensational job- we'll be back!

As a family of four we have just enjoyed another memorable week at the Ayana, having stayed at the hotel regularly since 2002 when it was known as the Ritz Carlton. Each holiday (we're up to our eleventh visit to the Ayana) is better than the last! The staff always strive to give their best personal service and the hotel's facilities and refurbishments never disappoint.
There is a wide range of excellent food on offer at the resort's various restaurants and this is a source of daily joy. Occasional special requests from the kitchen are accommodated effortlessly. The two senior female staff members at the Damar are a wonderful asset to the Hotel and we always look forward to meeting them again each time we visit the Ayana. Breakfasts at the Ayana are exceptional! The Padi breakfast reception staff, the waiters and chefs are wonderful.
The room amenities are top-drawer. Beds that are so comfortable! The refurbished bathroom showers are luxurious. Daily housekeeping of the rooms is managed very professionally. The hotel's laundry service is thorough and efficient.
The spa treatments are perfect. I recommend the Aquatonic Pool (its great to do this late in the day so you can enjoy the sunset while you're being pummeled by jets of warm ocean water). The therapeutic manual massages I enjoyed last week were carried out by highly skilled staff who left me feeling like I was as close to heaven as I'll ever get in this life.
Sukadana (with his trademark hat) at the main pool is genuinely friendly and helpful - he always looks after our needs. Its a treat to meet up with him each time we visit.
Sheeva from guest services is another great asset to the Ayana! She is very professional and friendly - and she was very efficient in following up on our spa bookings and other items of business during our stay. Great to see her pictures in the Ayana Resort magazine :)
For my wife and I and our two teenage children (who were 6 and 8 years old on our first visit) - visiting the Ayana has not only become and annual tradition - but, possibly an addiction...

Room Tip: Top floor ocean view rooms are our favourite.

Stayed Ayana for my third time last April 2013, my many trips to bali and still spend couple of nights in Ayana without failed. One of the best resort that really amaze me with Balinese deco with mix contemporary. Service was great with club room, personal check in @ club lounge. Rock bar is a must with good crowd. Never failed to impress me when ever I am there. Will be back definitely.

When you walk in you are greeted with cool drinks and very friendly people and service. The place has the traditional luxurious Balinese resort look, with the light marbled floors and all. They have a beautiful and large infinity pool. I'm not sure how many pools there are though. They have the 'rock bar', which is an over water bar, serving entrees/starters and drinks, (I don't recall whether or not they did meals as well). It's a beautiful place, one of, if not, the best resorts in Bali.
Highly recommend it.
(Note, i did not sleep here overnight, but the ratings below for Service, Value, Cleanliness, Location and Breakfast are based on what I have received in the few hours I was there. (Breakfast not based on breakfast but the other food I received whilst there.)
Rooms and sleep quality I accidentally clicked and never realized you are unable to un-rate it. But I am sure they are good too.
I was here January 2010, it did not give me this option.

Brilliant hotel, brilliant viewamaking pools.. The best and most hospitable people as staff.. Ayana knows how to treat its guests.. Why go site seeing in Bali... Just stay and relax in the resort..

Only drawback was I didnt get to see the rock bar cos it was under maintenance... But I'm goin back again soon jus to get a glimpse of the sunset from the Rock bar...!!!

Stayed here with my wife on our honeymoon for 3nights at the Club Lounge from 1st-3rd January! Alot of reviews say that the lounge level food is simple and somewhat indifferent on a daily basis, & as vegetarians we assumed the worst on arrival. However, we found the Ayana chefs and staff went out of there way to cater to our needs. We found ourselves eating x5 daily and were even given a complimentary breakfast at Padi, which had one of the biggest spreads we had EVER experienced. On a general note it is important to note, that visiting Bali in late december-early January does mean there will be daily rain/sun/rain etc. This does give quite a few restrictions for example the world renowned Rock Bar was closed as was the beach due to high tide. Though this is no fault of Ayana. The lounge level staff are a credit to Ayana and in particular Pushpa and thanks to Chef Delal for catering to our special orders. We also had an experience where we left some important valuables behind after checking out, and Ayana kept these safe for us and even met us at the airport to return them to us. (it would have been easy for them to just send them with a driver but instead ensured they were brought by a member of the club team). Overall a great stay and highly recommended to all!

Room Tip: Club Lounge has great food, a great team, and gives you the option of using laptops and ipads at the...
