Reviewed March 4, 2013

There are many hotels, villas & resorts in each area of Bali. I am glad that I made a great choice!

I went with my family inclusive of a 2 year old boy. Got a great deal from the official website: "Get together" for a classic resort room that has a kitchen, a master bedroom n a living room which was converted to another bedroom which is huge even for 3adults and a baby cot (and plenty of space to run around).

The service from ALL THE STAFFS of the hotel are consistently good.
Breakfast is served in 2 restaurants and variety is changed everyday.
The whole land area of the resort is huge!!! Plenty of play space on grass and sand for the kids, lots of "lazy areas" for sun tanning or simply doing nothing around the pool. If privacy is a big thing, this is a good choice!
Many pools to choose from for adults n kids. The spa is marvellous too!! Great quality and price, value for money! Be it in the spa salon or to the villa, equally great!

All the plus points....

Here comes the negatives, the restaurants in the hotel especially the Japanese restaurant, extremely slow in service. Could be their culture, but I thought its way too slow especially there r only two tables of customers. Other than that nothing else to complain

Any way thumbs up!

We do not exaggerate giving this Hotel a perfect score. Coincidentally we stayed in Intercontinental Sydney last week (we live in Sydney) the 1st time ever staying with this hotel chain. Realising it’s not practical to have the same conditions as Bali the two cannot be compared even by their own standards. For 1 week in Bali (17 January 2013), by choice we stayed in the most basic room which made every other great basic room we have ever stayed in seem like dog kennels. Web images look impressive but the impact of this vast hotel's layout and its sensational character can only be appreciated on arrival...Wow. Every inch and acre Ouse character and prepare you for a great Bali experience. We wish the work ethic and attitude of staff rubbed off on every guest, then the world would be a much better place. A cynic may say of course they make you feel that way for better tips (50c is more than enough) but when you hear the gardeners whistle while they work you realise that this place is where they want to work and their kindness is genuine. Walk on the beach, be careful despite their efforts of machine raking and hundreds of hours by workers cleaning the tidal rubbish (at Kuta the school children are taken to clean the beaches before school) we found a syringe washed up (albeit with a lid attached). I would not swim in the sea water at Jambaran outside the hotel or anywhere along that beach not just because of the flotsam but the currents move stormwater runoff from the villages along the coastline (village sewerage systems are not that efficient). As a professional working in water I've had serious ear & throat infections from even some of the world's greatest surfing beaches so am well aware of what looks like poor sea water quality. It's not the fault of the hotel, it is what it is and the sprawling choices of swimming pools are a great alternative to an ocean swim so it did not phase us. The complimentary spa, sauna is sensational. The various restaurants & eateries on the property are quality but of course compared to other Bali restaurants are expensive. As a tip, when travelling about just eat where you see plenty of other westerners as some look great but you will find them disappointing either ripping you off or rubbish food. Everyone apparently at some point in their stay eat at one of the 24 beach front restaurants along Jambaran Bay (10 minutes from the Intercon) so we went along. When I say beachfront, I mean literally your table is on the beach, amassing!! HOWEVER, do not choose a package dinner (about 8 dishes for $100) as it all comes out at once and as we left we realised that the kitchen we had mistaken was cooking for street food on the way in was actually their kitchen. They BBQ the hell out of the food, can’t tell the difference between a prawn (shrimp) & squid, by the time you get halfway through its all cold anyway. BUT you still have to go.....Order 2 dishes (get a big snapper & whole lobster for $100) The hotel has its own coloured taxis but all taxis are good or reasonable for the $4, 20 minute ride into Kuta. We spent the whole week been driven about the entire southern part of Bali. It's a shame the northern side is 3 hours away (believe me when I say minimum 3 hours and prepare yourself for narrow bumpy exhausting road trip). They have plans underway for a tollway (that's a huge step for Bali) to make the journey 2 hours. Nusa Dua is a great place to swim in clean ocean and picture perfect with the new short tollway under construction due to APEC visit in October will make it 10 minutes from Kuta and not 40 minutes. Go & see the monkey forest in Ubud (there is one closer somewhere) a great laugh (let the monkeys climb on you but it is a no no for you to touch the monkey they did react with sharp little incisor's. The elephant shows & rides sound great but we chose not to support confined cruelty to these poor things. Ignore the scammers and pests which are everywhere trying to sell you other accommodation, just say no thanks, never be rude and you will get along with them okay as they are well aware they are annoying you. We had a 5 year old, dirty haired but beautiful little girl come to our taxi window and beg us for $. The driver made it clear that to give them $ is a no no, couldn't translate why so we assume it will encourage others to run around the road and do the same and the Balinese seem embarrassed that they are about even though in reality there are obvious other signs of families living in poverty. Prepare to sweat the most you have in your life when you are out & about during this Monsoon time of year but there are plenty of places and cabs air conditioned. Hydrate in the morning (bottled water & dissolve an electrolyte tablet) as I guarantee one of you will feel faintish by afternoon if you don't. I lost 2 kilos for the trip due to sweat & activity which was fantastic as I am overweight. The same rule for foreigners for the last 30 years still applies.....brush your teeth in and drink only bottled water!!! The intercon supplies free 4 small bottles every day in the room but we also bought litre bottles (costs 50 cents). Everywhere we went we felt safe, even left money (about $800) by accident on a table in our room without a problem..staff are gems. Previous travellers told us not to wear any jewellery fake or otherwise mainly so you don’t get ripped off when bargaining for trade but that’s a bit misleading as the Balinese are clever at picking what you will pay and what you can afford to pay. Thank you Intercontinental and hope to see you again

Room Tip: The suites look amasing but all rooms have their advantages for proximity to this or that

This was a very satisfying resort, exactly the type of beach vacation you would expect. Their grounds are enormous and graceful, and right along the beach. There were plenty of chairs available at all times. The restaurants along the beach also are ok; the Japanese restaurant was disappointingly average. Our room was perfectly fine and large, with nice dark wood accents. The swimming pools are also nice, with a couple options. It was relatively quiet, not too many kids running around. Jimbaran beach itself isn't wonderful, with the airport on the right corner a definite distraction. I think 3-4 nights here is just right -- and for the price, it's an excellent value!

This hotel i located right at the lovely Jimbaran beach. This is a major + since the traffic on Bali is terrible. If you´re travelling with a small child I would not recommend even walking 100 meters on the street, so you have to stay where you want to be. Hotel grounds are well layed out and there are several pools to entertain the youngest ones. We did not try the childrens club, but it looked great. Just a few meters from the hotel are a stretch of lovely seafood restaurants where you can have your dinner at the beach. Perfect! Service at the hotel was a bit slow, but as we only stayed one night I can not know if it was just accordning to the staff on duty this particuar day. Room was nice, and bathroom big enhough. Extrabed is very expensive for a 3 year old, so our child slept in our bed.

We stayed in the Club rooms and enjoyed the use of the club pool and evening cocktails. The hotel grounds are immaculate, and the rooms and surrounds are very well maintained. Its lovely to sit on lounge chairs where the covers are free from stains, towels are thick and spotless, and beautiful grounds and beach as your view.

Would like to see a few more food options for club members who take the cocktail option around the pool....snacks are light on compared to main area where cocktails are served and children are not welcome.I can understand the reason for adult only areas, but equal club options should be available to all paying guests regardless if you have kids in your company.

Overall, this was a minor issue, but would be good to see this improved as we plan to return in the future as this is simply a beautiful hotel.

As a family holiday or a few days on my own the intercontinental is an ideal location. The grounds and beach are clean and relaxing. We always stay in the club rooms and have access to the club pool. The staff are attentive, but remember, it is Bali. There is no hurry, unless you request it.

The treatments and service at the spa are worth it.

Room Tip: The club rooms, access to the club pool is worth it.

My wife and i just returned from a few days in Bali. The hotel was wonderful. The breakfast was nice, the room exceptionally clean and well kept. But what really made this hotel wonderful was how attentive the staff was. They really turn this hotel in the most cosy place to stay and they realy make you feel like home. All these small touches made our stay truly memorable. I definitely recommend this hotel.
