“Ok if you have no other option”
Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Restaurant offers free transfer from your hotel and beachfront dining, this is really the only thing going for it.

Not really child friendly, no high chairs & dirty sand (cigarette stubs, broken glass)

Extensive menu but food average, we ordered lobster, indo prawn curry & pasta.

We wouldn't go back, much better places in jimbaran available

“Amazing dinner experience!”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

I booked this restaurant as it had a great website and I didn't want to just 'wing it' when we went to Jimbaran. They also offered a transfer (for 100,000IRP to be added to the bill I was told) from our villa in Seminyak to the restaurant which was very convenient. The traffic on this particular evening was horrendous due to the roadworks. Our transfer was 30mins late but then the driver did his best to get us to Jimbaran in time for the sunset. There was one other couple in our transfer.

When we arrived we were taken down to a table on the beach as the sun was setting. We ordered 2 seafood baskets with lobster which were fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were some traditional dancers that performed a few times for us as well.

The bill came to around $150AUD for 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and 2 seafood platters, which is expensive by Bali standards but good value for us. The transfer was not added to the bill as they said it would be, but I didn't really think about it.

The worst part of the night was getting home. It was Saturday night traffic and it took us 90mins to go the 10k or so from Jimbaran to Seminyak. I think in future Saturday nights will be spent close to home as it was very frustrating. Also hopefully when they build the new roads mid-2013 this will be better. When we got dropped off, the driver asked for 150,00IRP. I said no, it was 100,000 which he happily took without issue. As we found in Bali, where they can they will ask for me, but out of priniciple and to keep them honest, I am always staunch with what was agreed on.

Highly recommend this restaurant - you may get cheaper in Jimbaran but you take the risk I guess!

“Very special location, delicious food”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

We came over this place because our spa package at Boutique Spa Sekar Jagat (same owner) included a dinner. Wow, what an amazing beachfront experience! So spacious and kind of exclusive, totally different to the squeezed and smoky cafes at the more crowded stretch of Jimbaran bay. We were seated in comfy rattan chairs, our table was set up with flowers, table cloth, napkins and candle, we had an awesome view over the whole bay. Then came the food: the best chili-onion chicken we had our entire holiday, the grilled red snapper also very delicious. What a wonderful day with spa and beachfront dinner. We'll be back.

“All around great experience!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Boasting amazing views, friendly and helpful staff, impeccable service and delicious food, the Bawang Merah provided an all around great experience. Last night was our second visit, and we were equally impressed. Although there was a wedding reception taking place and the restaurant was comparatively busier, our experience was not impacted at all. Neighboring restaurants are seemingly congested and their tables are plentiful and cramped, the Bawang Merah seats you comfortably and spaciously, creating a sense of distance between you and other guests. We will re-visit!
