Villa Puri Balangan

Reviewed June 29, 2013

Large clean and modern with large pool. Staff were very attentive. Walk to balangan beach takes about 5 mins however the walk backup the hill after a surf is more of a challenge. Visiting the area now before it becomes another uluwatu is a must. Still has a villa feeling

Room Tip: Hire bikes to get around as there is very little to do but surf

This was our second visit to Puri Balangan and was marred by a series of "misunderstandings" with the Villa Manager - Made. We took another couple as we had been bragging about this place and it fell well below my previous experience.

When we arrived i asked where Nyoman (the chef) was. We were told by Made that he had resigned. When i asked who was replacing him he said no-one and that there was no chef at the villa! So notwithstanding that the villa is advertised as having a chef they had no intention of actually having one. I requested that one be found and after some debate a cook (who was lovely and is usually a nanny) was found.

Made then advised that we still owed 50% of the charges on the villa despite it having been paid in full. He also asked us to pay $40 AUD (!!) a day for a tv and dvd in the master bedroom which we told the management company we didnt want to rent.

Overall, there were lots of "misunderstandings" whcih could easily have been avoided if matters were dealt with properly and there was open communication between the management company (Nagisa) and the villa.

The pool pump was also broken while we were there so there was a bit of muck in the pool and the pump sucked water. We had to fill it with water ourselves to get enough water in it so it actually returned to being an infinity pool.

The shower head in the master bedroom is also broken or in need of some calcium removal. It spurts out in every which direction except where you are standing and alters its course every 10 seconds or so. Kind of amusing after a few drinks....you get a workout trying to chase the water!

Putu is still fantastic but she is now the only one who does the turn down service at night. If any one else is on then you have to close all the blinds yourself etc. Nothing major but these little things were what made our stay so amazing last time.

The 'new' fourth bedroom is simply the home theatre which has been turned into a bedroom. Now the tv and couch is outside and not airconditioned. I actually thought the airconditioned home theatre previously was a huge bonus - plus it protected you from the mossies at night.

There is a new owner which could also be part of the problem. Overall, for the price you pay for this villa (and trust me there is a lot of differing prices depending on who you book through) i was disappointed this time. Unless the price is right, we probably wont be returning as it isn't deserving of its premium rates. Although it is possible that the beautiful sunsets might drag me back....

We stayed at the Puri Balangan for 10 days & nights, beautiful view and very comfortable property. The rooms were clean and spacious, the infinity pool was very welcoming. Fantastic view from the villa to the Airport & Jimbaran bay area. Putu was great and looked after us very well, anything we needed she provided with a smile. Nyoman our chef was always happy & smiling. The property is well maintained with an excellent layout providing maximum privacy between the 3 bedrooms. Only down side was an unfortunate incident regarding money. I was forced to pay IDR560,000 twice for the same bill, infuriating part was that neither the Villa manager Made, or the property agent would even listen to my protests. I strongly advise to get receipts for everything! This was the only damper on the holiday but it took one star off the rating.

Went down with family (3 generations) to Puri Balangan, and each of us had one of the best holidays of our lives. Fantastic villa, well maintained, great service, beautiful views capturing both sunrise and sunset. The cooking was also very good. Everything was provided for with a smile. Great week. Staff was excellent.

We stayed here for 7 days with another couple and didnt want to leave. The view was amazing and the staff fantastic. Putu was so helpful and we loved Nyoman's cooking.

The villa is very spacious and easily accomodates 3 couples. However keep in mind that the third room is at the back of the villa, is smaller than the other rooms and doesnt have a view - something you mind want to consider when splitting the costs.

The infinity pool is magnificant and at night its beautiful seeing the lights of kuta/legian and the planes taking off and landing at the airport.

Things to consider:
There isnt much to do in the area around the villa but i thoroughly enjoyed just relaxing inside the villa. There is also an airconditioned home theatre seperate to the open air lounge/dining which the hubbies liked!

The only tv is the one in the Home Theatre so keep this in mind if you like heading to your own room at night to watch some tv before bed. In fact a tv in the room was one of our suggestions for the owners.

There is no shade over the pool during the day which can become an issue. Also its not the most child friendly of villas - large steps, open fish ponds, tiled outdoor areas by the pool etc.

There is a lot of construction going on in the area. A villa is to be built on the next level down to this one which will likely obstruct the views (and be very noisy when being built). Nothing was happenign as of our stay (April 2012) but I would check if anything has changed before booking.

Overall though a magificant adults retreat. I can't wait to return.

Our first trip to Bali and our first family holiday overseas in too many years. This meant the choice of a villa was both challenging and paramount. I am so glad we chose Puri Balangan. The place is the size of a small African village. Seriously it's big. And big is nice. We're a family of four, two teenage children, and in truth 3 couples could stay here. The layout is just that big.

We were welcomed with sublime drinks and cold towels, and given a tour of the villa/s. The pool as you can see in pictures, is an infinity pool overlooking a couple of miles of inland Jimbaran area and through to the sea.

Interestingly the surrounding areas are quite barren and not as lush as I expected for a tropical area. The roads are third world, as are the on tourist venues and shops. But that's probably irrelevant. Once you're in the grounds here, the villa is sublime.

The staff, Maddy, Putu and Noyman are fabulously friendly and attentive. Noyman's cooking is with heart and nothing is too much trouble.

My only note is that perhaps it's time for towels, as clean as they were, to be retired for new sets, and the pillows are a little too huge for a healthy neck - we need some feather down in the house!

We didn't rate the Jimbaran beachside seafood cafe scene. It was disappointing if not grubby, but that's as an aside,

If you're looking for a wonderfully relaxing and indulgent villa in Jimbaran then I simply can't say enough about this villa. Come.

This is our first holiday to Bali and we just want to thank the staff - Made, Nyoman (chef) and Putu for our amazing holiday at Puri Balangan. Especially Nyoman, for all the fabulous dinners he cooked, we love everything he cooks. Made is ever so patient in arranging for our daily massages and Putu is such a jovial soul to have around. We fell in love with the huge private infinity pool which has an absolutely amazing view, not to mention clean as well. We had lots of relaxing swim watching the gorgeous bali sunrise and sunset. Plans for the next trip is already in the pipeline. Puri Balangan is situated on a hill in Jimbaran area, a perfect getaway for travellers who just wants R & R and avoid the noisy bars and terrible traffic at kuta and seminyak areas. We have no problems at all with our booking experience with Ms Mako (villa owner), our family of 5 arrived on different flights and Ms Mako was very kind to arrange for drivers to pick us at the airport. Rates are reasonble and services are prompt. Daily breakfast is included, for some the variety may seem to be limited. However, our family are quiet happy just to light continental breakfast of fresh local fruits, jam and toasts. I will not hesitate to share my experience with other trip advisor members.
