I came to Ahimsa beach in Jimbaran for my honeymoon. I stayed here for ten days in July of 2012. (It's been awhile, I forgot I never reviewed) I did tons of research for months on hotels that would fit me for my honeymoon. After extensive research, Ahimsa Beach fit my budget and at the time was new and the reviews that existed were amazing!
Let me start off with the service. Ahimsa had the best service, ever. Everyone there was very kind and attentive. My husband and I still think about the workers that we bonded with while we were there. The hotel staff is made up of about 15 people. They rotate between cooking, cleaning & managing, driving. They were all so awesome and went above and beyond to accomodate our needs. When we left, we asked if they actually received the gratuity that the hotels usually up-charge (I think it's 10%) and they did say that they do but we decided to leave them an extra $100 USD to split.
My favorite part of the resort was probably the distance to the beach (5 minute walk) and the access to drivers. The drivers saved us a ton of money and were willing to go to places up to 30 minutes away. I remember even asking them to take us around to find the shrimp chips that they serve us for breakfast and they happily took us to 3 supermarkets.
Now here's the reason why I docked off one star. I loved the concept of a pool in the villa but the villa we were in never had enough sunlight for us to swim. It wasn't a major deal so I never complained but I think that a resort that advertises this should get rid of trees or something so that the pool can be warm enough to swim in. The second problem I had was the mosquitoes and wildlife. I know that it is an island and that half of the villa is outside; that is fine and it was my choice to stay in a place like this, however, we were visited by many different creatures (geckos, frogs, insects) and it became quite a nuisance to go to the restroom at night with all of these animals near or around your toilet. I wish the resort would build a glass encasing the restroom so that there is less of a chance of these creatures climbing into your bathtub while you're away. One night, we actually had to have someone come and save a frog that was getting sick from the coils. I had to ask the staff respray the villa twice because my husband and I got about 15 mosquito bites combined.
If you're fine with the humidity and wildlife then this is the perfect place! All in all, it was an amazing trip. We were well fed and there was exceptional service.
By the way, if you're going to take a tour, I would not book through the Ahimsa. The man that came for our tour was not that informative and took us to some tourist trap restaurant up by the volcano. The meal cost $44 USD and we paid about $180 USD for the all day tour. Major disappointment.
