I really loved the temple and surrounding area. One thing you have to be prepared for is all the vendors that are along the path. Not a great aspect, but they're at almost every temple. There are a couple of paths through the temple compound that end up intersecting with each other, so you shouldn't be able to get lost. The area is larger to explore than I originally thought going in, which was nice. The crowds tend to stay closer to the statues carved in the mountain, and for good reason, they are amazing to see. This is a must, but heads up. It is one of the further treks from the parking lot to the temple area that we did.
This show at 7:30 pm on Saturday nights is at the Puri Agung Peliatan Palace. The music is extraordinary of the three dance shows we saw. It's really a marvel when precisely timed to the dancers. There's a great variety of dancing including the Baris, dance of the young soldier and the Barong which was delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed.
Really nice place to have a walk around, we didn't have a guide and it would have been nice to have the place explained to me . Very pretty
The dancers were amazing, seeing traditional dancers in a more professional setting was awesome, the noise from a few ppl who were there at the same time spoiled our experience a bit, but that was no reflection on the overall experience just on the rude tourists!
The experiance of sering bali traditional dance and play was interesting but at the sametime it is very hot in the place where it is held yes they have fans operating but can be a little uncomfortable
This is a review of the Saturday evening show at Puri Agung Peliatan palace.
My wife played in a gamelan orchestra in the US for several years. We went to Ubud specifically to hear gamelan music and see legong. Gunung Sari was the second group we saw, and the show was really great.
Yes, the show was geared toward tourists. No, we don't care. These guys are legit. The orchestra sounded tight, and the interplay between the subtle movements of the dancers and the orchestra was dead on. It was a delight to watch and I wished it was twice as long. Also, half the audience was locals at the show.
If you are into music (and I mean you really truly like music - maybe you've played an instrument, and like listening to instrumental/classical/jazz music), or into the artistry of dance, you will really love and appreciate this show. If not, you'll probably think the music sounds a bit jarring and get a restless half way through, but it's still a fun thing to do just to see the costumes and hear the orchestra. They even ended with the crowd-pleasing Barong - the super cool woodland spirit costume with the monster mask you see plastered all over anything Balinese.
