Ananda is all that it promises and more - the property is easily accessible, the views from the rooms and the rest of the property are beautiful and the service is impeccable.

Since this is a destination spa - the atmosphere is tranquil, and multiple activities are held across the property. The resort provides white Kurta pajamas twice a day, which are super comfy and so convenient! There is a small pool on the property right outside the spa for a dip, a small golf course (miniature!) and a beautiful deck for breakfast.

The massages - Ananda fusion and Swedish massages were quite nice, except be sure to request for a senior masseur, as that makes all the difference. There's a steam and sauna room as well, so go much before your appointment if you like lounging about in the steam room. The outside showers have slightly see through glasses, so you can ask for the shower rooms with a little more privacy.

The food - the wide variety of juices was amazing - especially loved the carrot, ginger and cucumber juice. The menu is quite robust and everything is usually very good. Since we were a part of a large group, they did a special chaat/ khao suey counter for us and everything was fantastic!

The service- they tend to slow down a little when there are too many people to serve, but overall, the staff is well trained, very courteous and nothing is too much effort for them!

All in all - anand hi anand!

A ‘destination spa’ in the hills above the Ganges town of Rishikesh, about 45 minutes drive from Dehradun regional airport, recommended by travel agent. It’s a converted part of an old maharajah palace that was apparently a popular ‘old colonial’ retreat. Good check in and comfortable room with nice valley views from balcony (ask for a higher floor if possible, as the view of the Ganges valley below gets better), and adequate bathroom with a power shower and bathtub. They provide traditional Indian cotton long loose shirts (kurta) and tie-up trousers (pyjamas), which can be worn in all areas and activities. Choices of pillows, bed linens, and sleep quality good. Wireless internet charged at high rates, which doesn’t really seem right when you consider the room rates at Ananda. Pavilion restaurant good with wide selection on breakfast and dinner buffets in addition to an a la carte menu, some items not always available. The spa is excellent and set in an expansive area, and has a variety of treatments with very well trained staff - no doubt one of the prime attractions of Ananda. Large choice of spa options available. There are numerous other interesting, stimulating and wellness activities as well, including meditation, yoga, spiritual talks, stretching regimes, hikes of varying difficulty, swimming, gym and golf. All staff generally excellent and very helpful, friendly and courteous. We brought up some service problem issues with the manager after a couple of patiently tolerant days (a cumulative series of what in isolation might have been accepted as ‘minor’ problems, but became quite annoying once they kept continuing in different areas of the resort), and they were addressed immediately and effectively, but the point is that these should not have arisen in the first place in a place that prides itself as a premier spa and wellness resort that charges pretty high rates, and appeared quite busy with a good number of guests. So…some work on the service ‘details’ and complimentary wireless internet is needed here urgently, otherwise a unique and excellent Himalayan experience.

This was our 6th trip to Ananda. Since we stay in Dehradun, just two hours drive from Ananda its our loyal choice when we need a break. We took the spa package with the valley view room. Room No. 614 has the best view. My husband and I both enjoy nature so the view becomes extremely important while choosing a room. The minute you step in to Ananda you feel cut off from the world and a great sense of calm and peace takes over. The next morning when you wake up all you can see from your bed is the mountains and the rays of the morning sun. Its the most beautiful sight. The mountains keep changing colour through the day with the change in the sun rays and as the ganges reflects these rays, you can be there all day and gaze at the natural beauty without getting bored.... The best thing about Ananda is its Spa. Since I was expecting I opted for the therapies specifically for pregnancy. My therapist, Palden was excellent, she even gave me some healing during the massage. I felt so light and completely relaxed after with all the stiffness and aches just disappearing. There is also this wonderful warmth among the staff that creates a very welcoming feeling that no other place can replicate.
We have always wanted to stay in the villa so this time we made it happen. On day 2 we moved to the villa. We have stayed in quite a few villas including Four Seasons Langkawi & Koh Samui. This villa is far superior. It's huge by international comparison, has a separate living room and a pantry with butler service. All our villas have had small plunge pools attached but this one has a massive swimming pool set in the forest with the spectacular views of the mountains. The water was heated so despite the winter we thoroughly enjoyed the pool. You can literally have a pool party there - its so huge.
The food was excellent though after a couple of meals you do run out of choice for desert.
Ananda is famous for its wellness programmes and attracts guest from all over the world, many with the aim of losing weight and rejuvenating.
Our next plan is to go stay there for a week.

Came to Ananda for a short one night stay in the midst of a week long trip to Rishikesh. Definitely plan to come back for a longer visit; hopefully for a detox program. After hearing all the hype, I was pleasantly surprised at the simple yet sophisticated property with a palace wing and the remaining rooms, spa, pool & restaurant down the hill. They also have a gorgeous amphitheatre & "hawa mahal" where yoga classes/performances take place. I was in the premium valley view room and had a view of Rishikesh city from my balcony and of the mountains from my bathtub.
The yoga class was very good and so was the stretches class. They also have treks planned in the surrounding mountains but since it was raining we chose not to trek.
The cuisine is par excellence here, from the wellness menu to the Eastern fare to Indian food and the breakfast options as well. I had been waiting to splurge on the food here and it was better than I expected: world class cuisine in the true sense.
I also had an Ananda fusion therapy during my stay (as I had completed a triathlon the day prior and my muscles were extremely sore) and it completely refreshed me and relaxed my body. I'm usually not fond of ayurvedic massages but the fusion was a mix of Swedish and Ayurveda and simply divine. I've also heard great things about their 4 hands massage.
Left with a very heavy heart and hope to be back this year if not next.
One thing to note: Ananda is more a destination spa than a resort so they discourage boisterous groups from coming as they're looking to maintain a tranquil experience for the remaining guests. The last order for dinner is 9.45 pm and yoga classes are held at 7.30 and 8.30 am.

Room Tip: I was very happy with a premium valley view room. Caught a glimpse of the villa too and that was spe...

A ridiculous place, staffed with individuals that thinks they are doing the guests a favour. We had gone to Ananda for high-tea with the intention of booking a stay. Our welcome was so off-putting that we walked out.

Despite making the arrangements for tea, was made to wait at the gate whilst the security spoke to what appeared as dozens of people. Was then asked to come out of my car and speak on security phone to the hotel.

When we got to the Reception were told we could only sit in the adjoining room and wait for high-tea to be served. Our request to look around the hotel common grounds to help us decide if we’d like book a stay was met with ‘please go to our website’ as we cannot show you anything! At this stage, had to get firm with the staff and they then agreed to have us look over the place. By this time our feeling for the place was at the lowest. We did a quick tour and left.

The Management need to wake up to the fact there are many better luxury places (eg. Anantara) in the world where service comes first and then location etc.

Dear Guest,

Namaskar!

Thank you for visiting us at Ananda and for you review. Please accept our sincere apologies if we were unable to meet with your expectations during you time here.

On the day when you visited Ananda, the hotel was fully occupied and we were therefore unable to show you most of the areas. In fact on such days we are unable to offer any dining services to guests that our not staying with us.

Our hi tea is served in the Tea Lounge which is part of the Palace of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal. This is the lounge which is adjacent to the Reception of the hotel, which is where you were offered to be served.

Being a destination spa, our guests expect us to guard their privacy and this is why we need to confirm at the entrance, if visitors have prior reservations at the hotel. This also helps us to maintain the tranquillity and calm that is integral to our guests' experience.

May we please humbly request you to contact us at gmo@anandaspa.com whenever you are in our vicinity and we would be happy to organise a personal tour of the hotel and its facilities.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ananda soon.

Thank you,
Warm regards,

Booked online but on arrival we were told that the rate we had been quoted, and had booked on the basis of, was only for Indians, not foreigners. "Our" rate was 3 times as much, at $750 per room per night. After over an hour of argument we were offered, reluctantly, a 20% discount on the "foreigner" rate. At $600 this was still well over 2x the online rate.
We declined to stay and moved to another hotel, which was stressful and tiring after a long day of travelling.
Not behaviour to be expected from a supposedly international hotel. We stayed in a number of high quality hotels on our trip, including Oberoi and Marriott. Only the Ananda operates a room rate policy which discriminates on the basis of nationality.
Would advise not to stay at this hotel.

Dear Reviewer,

Namaskar!

Thank you for your review. We are grateful to you for giving us the opportunity to explain that from time to time, as is done by hotels all over the world, we have marketing promotions that are made available to residents of a country. At present this promotional rate is being offered to residents of India. Depending on the season similar promotions are offered in other geographies as well.

All our rates are transparently available on our website and you would recollect that we had quoted the same rates to you and to the Concierge of your Delhi hotel over the phone. The validity of the rates was also communicated via e-mail on February 22. This information is also available on the website where the reservation was made from on line.

Since you had already made the journey to us, we were very keen to have the opportunity to host you and showcase our services. We are sorry that our offer of a discount on a lower category of room and an upgrade to a Premium Valley View room did not meet with your expectations.

We are keen to have the opportunity to be of service to you and would be happy to share with you our rates and promotions calender for the coming year. If we have your permission, we could e-mail the same to the address we have on record.

We look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you to Ananda - in the Himalayas. Do let us know if we may be of any assistance whatsoever.

Thank you,
Warm regards,

Nikhil Kapur

If you want to rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit, Ananda is the place. You can start your day with Ananda signature tea, followed by Yoga sessions conducted by experienced trainers. Sessions on Vedanta - philosophy of life - set your mind thinking. Ayurveda massage and spa treatments are simply the best. It is a beautiful property on a hilltop surrounded by forest and overlooking Rishikesh. They give you fresh white Kurta Pyjamas everyday, which are practical for the Yoga and meditation sessions. The service and hospitality is impeccable.

The food is awesome. The multi cuisine menu offers a vast variety; besides the Chef can turn out excellent Garhwali food on request. The rooms are thoughtfully designed and extremely well maintained. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The property is beautiful and serene. One can visit it again and again.
