My daughter and stayed four days at Ilbert Manor and explored Mussoorie and the surrounding hills and villages. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The hotel staff was fantastic and made the visit memorable. The evening we arrived the staff noticed while checking in that it was my birthday, so baked a surprise birthday cake and had a bonfire! They also took us hiking one day to George Everest's House, and camping one evening. They made us feel like family and went out of their way to make sure we have everything we desired.
The food was the best food I had in India - freshly prepared, a very nice blend of spices, and good variety, and any available time of day or night.
The location was just off the main road, close enough to venture out anytime, but far enough away to get peace and quiet. The room was large and clean, and we had a fantastic view of the Himalayas and the Nag Tibba Range from our room.
I would highly recommend Ilbert Manor, and hope to return some day. I will always remember our stay due to the wonderful hospitality.

We enjoyed our two nights at the Ilbert Manor. The staff are simply amazing and without them the review would be lower. They simply cannot do enough for you and go out of their way to anticipate and satisfy your requirements. I have truly not had such good service in 5 star hotels costing 5 times the price of this one. On our departure we had to set off at 5 am and the entire staff got up to make us breakfast, warm the dining room, load luggage and see us off. One of them even ran and brought a hot water finger bowl and towel to the taxi because I had sticky hands from a last bit of toast.
The hotel itself is a slice of history, an old Raj era house with a lot of atmosphere and many interesting artifacts. Our room (Fanny Parkes) had a wonderful view of the Himalayas in the mornings and it was a joy to look out. The room itself was large and well equipped with a reasonably priced mini bar, kettle, complimentary biscuits, flat screen tv, armchairs, very comfortable bed. The bathroom was very large and also similarly well equipped. The problem with the hotel is the location. It is located just below the Mall on a very steep hill with narrow tight turns. It is difficult for medium plus cars to get up and down, plus the fact that the Mall itself is barred to traffic unless a hefty toll is paid which a lot of taxis wont pay. And there is no parking at the hotel, so access s difficult. It is a very steep haul on foot from the hotel up to Mall level. Not for the unfit or elderly. the hotel do run a shuttle but it was out of action when we stayed. The other issue is communal space. In January the evenings were very cold and eating outside was impossible. So the hotel offered dinner in a small room which I believe is usually the tv room. The tables weren't really rght for eating and it lacked atmosphere. The outside area is small. I don't know what it would be like in summer or busier times. I think it would be cramped. Heaters were provided for the rooms which were definitely needed but the communal areas and corridors were icy cold. Now, this is a genuine heritage experience I suppose but this is not a cheap hotel and really to justify the prices more heating should be provided if the owners want to open the hotel in winter. It is just too cold otherwise. We had the half board package and whilst the breakfast was good, dinner was awkward. We had to order it hours in advance and well over half of the items were unavailable making the menu very very limited. Again, for the price 15000 INR for two nights, it ought to be better. To summarise, there is much to like about the hotel but also much that the owners should do it improve and justify the prices demanded. the staff are outstanding and this is no reflection on them.

We had booked 2 rooms in Ilbert Manor for the month of December and due to change in plans we had to cancel the rooms and again booked the same for different dates. But throughout this mess , the staff was calm and very patient enough to attend our issues and adjust as per our dates. Such service is not even seen in the best and the most costly hotels too.I really appreciate the staff for having taking care of the guests.Ilbert Manor is worth every penny that you spend on the stay. The food was awesome and again since we had an infant with us they made sure to provide with the apt food for our baby. The Himalayan view was breathtakingly beautiful plus the service from each and every staff is worth Applauding!!!! if I ever get to visit Mussoorie again,im surely gonna opt only for Ilbert Manor.
The rooms are big and beautiful and gives a heritage feel. The food was lip smacking.Overall, Amazing experience!!!

Room Tip: The cottage rooms are beautiful and also the ones facing the Himalayan range

Ilbert Manor is name of a complete holiday experience starting from a warm welcome, comfortable stay, massive rooms which give a royal feel, fresh & scrumptious food, picturesque ambience with mesmerizing Himalayan view, & last but not the least and most importantly their bountiful hospitality. We were lucky enough to be recommended to this place for our stay in Mussorie which indeed became a memorable one. Would definitely stay with them again for our next time in Mussorie.

Looking for a home in Mussourie, goto Ilbert Manor. It's a very personal experience extended by every staff. The property is made of willows and has a excellent colonial experience. The view from the hotel over the Himalayan ice cover range is very beautiful on a sunny day. If possible opt for a cottage, which can be a real good experience. Heating facilities are adequate. Wi-fi is available through the premise.
Although the food is not amazing, but offers some good taste. Choice of desserts is missing. There are no bar facilities. One can adopt for room service on a cool evening even on a buffet dinner. Thanks to the helpful staff.
There is shuttle pickup and drop facilities from the Mall road, which is very useful after a having a quick evening samosa at Ghandi chowck. Call the hotel before you arrive so that they may arrange for the car.
During the stay I got a call from the hotel head quarters for feedback, which was really great. Overall we are very pleased with our stay in Ilbert manor and will be back we are in Mussourie again.

Excellent property, excellent location, excellent ambience, excellent rooms, excellent staff, excellent service , excellent hospitality, very good food.... what more can we demand from a hotel in a hill station?
The only major con is the over prized food... though the food is very good, some items are too expensive compared to other hotels of similar budget.
Massage, manicure and pedicure services are available on demand and laundry service is also available. The staff is extremely hospitable and helpful.
Another small problem is that tourists cannot drive big SUVs into the property as the entrance is through a very narrow and tricky road. But this problem is compensated by the hotel as they provide free shuttle services (apparently unlimited no. of times) to the main road throughout the day and the tourists are provided with free car parking by the hotel in a private parking nearby. Small cars can enter the property depending upon the driver's skill.

Room Tip: Room 205 (the Fanny Parker Room) is a good room with a BIG (seriously big and spacious) bathroom and...

I stayed here with three friends only one night. We chose the colonial suite.
The atmosphere of the hotel was very nice and the room was large enough for four people.
We enjoyed the night bazzaar in Mussoorie very much.
And we were impressed with the warm hospitality of hotel staff.
We wanted to stay there more.
But just one thing we complain is the shower room. We felt cold because the system is old.
Maybe I think the time we stayed was already cold.
I recommend this hotel to the people who plan to visit India.
